Cuban cosmonaut

[edit]

"Other cosmonauts", "The Americas," should include the Cuban cosmonaut NO MATTER WHAT. Otherwise, it is too easy to overlook him. Didn't you know that in a list-type reference, some people read them from bottom to top, or else they just choose a random spot to start reading? I am not kidding you.

Italics

[edit]

Some names (eg Dennis Tito, Toyohiro Akiyama and Helen Sharman) are italics but no explanation is given for this. What does it mean? Sophie means wisdom (talk) 22:00, 1 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Cosmonauts by date/year of birth

[edit]

Cosmonauts by date/year of birth is very hard to track down, and especially if we want to find the living ones.
As for the American astronauts, the two oldest living ones (as of the summer of 2018) are Frank Borman and Jim Lovell, both of whom were born in 1928. Interestingly, they were crewmates in both Gemini 7 and Apollo 8.
As for the cosmonauts, the only two survivors from the Vostok and Voshkod programs are Alexi Leonov, born in May 1934, and Valentina Tereshkova, born in March 1937, and hence both of them are younger.24.156.77.8 (talk) 23:56, 5 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Missing names

[edit]

An editor listed a source with names I didn't see on the article. Some of the names (I may have just missed some) include: Vladimir Benderov, Valentin Ershov, Leonid Ivanov, Leonid Kadenyuk, Eduard Kugno, Mars Rafikov, Alexander Schukin, and Rimantas Stankevicius, and possibly others. Might they be due to differences in transliteration from the Cyrillic to the Latin alphabets? For example, Герман Титов is transliteratated on English Wikipedia to Gherman Titov but some books show Herman Titov. Similarly, Андриян Николаев becomes either Andriyan Nikolayev or Andrian Nikolayev; Валерий Быковский becomes either Valery Bykovsky or Valeri Bykovsky; and Алексей Леонов becomes either Alexey Leonov or Alexei Leonov. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 17:00, 5 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Well that could sure be it on the spelling, thanks. It didn't look to see if the alternate spelling was included in the articles. What about the names from the source? Otr500 (talk) 03:06, 6 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

TOC Adjustments

[edit]

Just wanted to throw a note up here about the edit I just made. Given how long the alphabetical list under "Russian and Soviet cosmonauts" is, it felt clunky not to have a normal H:TOC in its default position on the page - so readers can easily jump down to those other sections. But the {{Compact ToC}} that was only linking to the alphabetical list under the "Russian and Soviet cosmonauts" section, was blocking the default TOC from populating. So I used the H:LIMITTOC template to force a normal TOC into its default position, but only with the Level 2 headers.

I also moved the compact TOS to under the "Russian and Soviet cosmonauts," again to declunk it a bit. CleverTitania (talk) 08:06, 18 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Graham87, is this edit acceptable for accessibility? --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 20:14, 18 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Redrose64: Yep, sounds fine to me, since the second TOC doesn't have a heading and neither of the tables of contents are making text harder to find for screen reader users. Graham87 03:41, 19 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I guess the only thing that's being slightly obscured is the image of Yuri Gagarin below the alphabetical TOC ... but it's just an image so it doesn't matter. Graham87 03:44, 19 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you Graham87 --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 19:49, 19 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
