Criteria for listing
[edit]This list is about the top 200 Iranian companies.
I suggest we take sales figures as the main criteria like it has been for the recent selection here [1]. Also for sectors like IT which may not have any company represented in the top 100-200, I suggest we use other criterias like strategic importance for the Iranian economy (i.e. microprocessor production) AND undisputed NOTORIETY. Same holds true for other sectors which have no companies represented in the top 100-200 like Professional services or education and publishing.69.116.234.208 19:37, 8 March 2007 (UTC)

If you don't have a company in the top 100 in terms of sales in Iran AND more than 250 employees, then, please explain on this talk page WHY your company should be listed, including proof of NOTORIETY (link to press articles) and a link to your website, if any, BEFORE listing; so all Wikipedians can make an informed judgement. Otherwise it will most likely be deleted. Thank you for your understanding (see also: WP:CORP, WP:NOT, Wikipedia:External links, and Wikipedia:Spam). SSZ 09:24, 6 April 2007 (UTC)
If anybody has the updated 2007 list of the top 100 companies mentionned above, kindly provide the list itself on this discussion page (or the link to the website where it can be found). Thank you.SSZ 09:24, 6 April 2007 (UTC)

Iranian Motorcycles
[edit]I'm not sure this is the place to ask, but I'd like to see articles about Iranian motorcycle manufacturers. Also, a list of Iranian motorcycle manufacturers could be added to List_of_motorcycle_manufacturers. Zzorse 02:46, 3 February 2007 (UTC)
Establishment of clear policy
[edit]I'm seriously thinking of adopting List of Iranian companies in my patrols, and I think you guys have gone a long way in framing what is notable for this list. However, I think it critically needs a policy of meeting Wikipedia's notability requirements for articles. My patrolling generally revolves around ensuring that all listed companies have accompanying articles, the list is alphabetized and clear of extraneous comments and that the categories themselves are organized. In a day or two, I'd like to start with my cleanup, and then full-time patrolling. Here's the policy I'd like to add to the top. Please make suggestions on how it can be more clear, so that I may post it with your implied consent:
This is a list of major companies based in Iran. Please note that the list is highly incomplete and does not have thousands of companies of different sizes. Links should only point to the Wikipedia article, and not to a web page URL. If you want to add a link to a company, please ensure the Wikipedia article is written first. Company descriptions are not necessary, as the pertinent Wikipedia article will provide all needed information.
Please see listing criteria on the discussion page before listing. This page lists only a few major Iranian companies operating inside and outside of Iran.
This list is incomplete; you can help by adding missing items.
Thanks --LeyteWolfer 11:57, 10 July 2007 (UTC)
- Hi LeyteWolfer,
- You are welcome to patrol with me this page but please don't rush to delete a company just because it has no accompanying article. I have monitored this list for a year now and made sure they all meet the criteria for listing, as described above. I think may be 10 companies presently listed need to be removed at most. The list by itself is very valuable and meets Wikipedia's notability rules. I would ask you to list on this discussion page the companies that you think should not be listed, if any, so we can debate this subject further.
- Regarding your paragraph above, I think it is good and helpful but I would delete the second sentence "Please note that the list is highly incomplete and does not have thousands of companies of different sizes" because I am not sure it is necessary.
I'm going to remove all entries that have neither a Wikipedia article nor independent references, per WP:NOT (not a directory) and WP:V (verifiability). Marasmusine 07:46, 24 September 2007 (UTC)
ABM Pharmachine co
Iran Software & Hardware Co. (NOSA)
[edit]A leading player in information technology in Iran, I am not sure how many employees they have but they have 5 locations in Iran and are one of the future companies that will be located in Pardis Technology Park.
They have recently been in national news regarding the launch of their latest software which was a library 2.0 system with online cataloging and RFID infrastructure. this software is perhaps one of the most advanced of it's kind currently present
their clients include many Iranian firms and libraries including
Sharif University (Central Library) Tehran University (Faculty of Science) Tehran University(Faculity of Foriegn Languages) Tehran University (Institute of Geophysics) Tehran University (Institute of Biochemistry Biophysics) Amirkabir University of Technology (Central Library) Shahid Beheshti University (Central Library) Iran University of Science and Technology (Central Library) Islamic Azad University (Tehran Medical Unit) Mofid University (Central Library) Iran University of Science and Technology (Arak Branch)
Their web portal is also is very useful because due to there extensive online network, any person could search for documents in any of the user clients which include a list of hundreds of universities, public departments and corporations. I left the portal as a link, it can be used to search for English and Persian documents in the public sectors of the search engine.
the program further offers the ability to barrow the documents of view a digitized version is made available by the source. this is a great tool for researchers. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rmzadeh (talk • contribs) 01:48, 29 May 2009 (UTC)
List clarification, please?
[edit]Okay, I'm really baffled by this list. The inclusion criteria is an outdated mess; it seems at one time the intent was a list of "top" companies by revenue, but it hasn't been updated in five years. There's also a large section of seemingly random additions with links back to corporate sites and no other indication of why they are on this page. Since most of the links on the page are either dead or severely outdated, can someone clear up the intent? Is there a reason we're not using the same criteria as the other 147 lists of companies by country? Kuru (talk) 23:42, 29 November 2013 (UTC)
- You are right, Actually these kinds of lists have this common problems, but anyway I think we can fix this list based on notability of the companies and also by removing any claims which do not have sources. I can help you on this, anyway your point is right & I do support any action in order to make this list better and more reliable we can start here in this section to talk about the companies and if they can stay in the list. for now anyone can start by removing any claim which do not have a reliable source. I prefer first deleting and removing the most then start to add one by one if needed. any help I can do, please do not hesitate to askKhabarNegar Talk 10:38, 30 November 2013 (UTC)
- To answer your question: The list of the top 100 has not been updated recently because the organization that publishes it has not made it available to the public (free use). For the rest I think the criteria as explained on the top of this talk page is quite good and follows wikipedia's standards (i.e WP:CORP, WP:SPAM etc.) for the rest I agree with KhabarNegar, in the sense that if you want to remove any co. please discuss it first on this talk page so we can agree. For the rest I think this list is quite good and well sourced. I have reviewed them all and references are made to media sources (not the co. website) now. Cheers! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.87.49.102 (talk) 22:06, 14 December 2013 (UTC)
- Not available to the public is fairly problematic, and I don't see that the bottom half of the list is well-sourced at all, but I'm willing to admit that my ability to evaluate media sources in Iran is limited. How about this:
- Drop the revenue and ranking numbers for now; they're very, very outdated and will be very difficult to maintain over time even if we had a unified source.
- Re-order the list by the industry classification, with a brief company description (like List of companies of Qatar). I'd like to add links to the company's listing on the Tehran Stock Exchange if applicable as well.
- For this first pass, leave in all entries, regardless of sourcing. We can see how it looks and evaluate from there. My preference would be to eventually restrict the list to entries with articles only, but I'm in no rush and would be happy to start creating a bunch of articles on these firms if someone can assist with the sourcing.
- If that's okay, let me know and I'll get started. Kuru (talk) 01:33, 29 December 2013 (UTC)

- I should have said "currently not on their website". But the list is published each year. They also do a list for the top-500. They use metrics like sales and growth. I have been watching this list on WP for 6 years now. It's best to have Wiki articles for each company but I think it is not bad as it is now (with refs). The TSE companies are listed separately because their criteria is somewhat different. Not all major companies are listed in Iran. The present WP list can be sorted by field of activity or sales as it is now (with sector specific info in Iran). If you have the latest list please let me know. I think the best is to start by creating more company articles. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.44.242.154 (talk) 04:41, 31 December 2013 (UTC)

- Sounds good. We could also add a brief list by revenue at the top (similar to how List of companies of the Czech Republic does it) if that helps the IP's concerns. There's enough source material in the tertiary articles linked to construct this, although I cannot find a full copy of the Industrial Management Organization's list, and their site seems to have numbers from 23 years ago. I'll take a shot at it this weekend when I get time. Kuru (talk) 01:56, 16 January 2014 (UTC)

- TO summarize if I may, We agreed that first we need more articles and then we need an updated list for the top 100 cos. If you need help with some companies I can try to find sources. Khabarnegar suggested to log-in but if you don't mind I will keep it as it is since I am the only IP so far in this discussion. Thanks for your understanding. For the inclusion criteria please see top of this talk page and the methodology section on the article's page. I think the criteria is good as it is. If you need to change it please let me know so we can discuss this further.67.83.61.108 (talk) 23:55, 23 January 2014 (UTC)
- I'm afraid that you've identified no criteria for inclusion; it was the original problem that caused me to start this discussion. The "methodology" section references an outdated list and in no way matches the actual list on the article. The "top of this talk page" radically differs from the actual list and does not appear to be workable. At the moment the inclusion on the actual article is completely random. This is currently the only "List of companies of (country)" article (out of 149) which has no real inclusion criteria and appears to be attracting spam. We're also missing many notable firms which fall out of the top 100.
- So let me summarize the proposal: 1) Set the inclusion criteria to entries with existing Wikipedia articles. For now, keep all entries, redlink or not, that were in the old "top 100" list and we'll work together to create articles for them. 2) Bring in other entries that have an article and are not currently on the list. 3) Copy any redlinks without an article (and not in the top 100) to a working list that we can evaluate.
- As noted above, I can have a draft for you this weekend and we can speak to that. Kuru (talk) 01:59, 24 January 2014 (UTC)
- May be I wasn't clear enough, the top 100 is not from me but from Industrial Management Organization which uses sales and growth among other metrics as explained in the referenced notes. The next listed companies are those who where amongst the top 100 in preceding years but are no more (sales figures are also given). Finally you have the companies that have emerged in recent years and were mentioned in major Iranian newspapers because of the their importance to the economy (this last list is not exhaustive). References are given next to the company's name. I have no link with ANY of them. So it is wrong to say the list is "random" as you suggest. Besides you can have the sector information at your fingertips. The table is also sortable. You need to be more specific. The most recent list is for 2012 . But it is in Farsi.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.83.61.108 (talk) 07:16, 24 January 2014 (UTC)

[edit]- I would say Maximum 50 companies would be enough, even more than enough. Because more than 50 companies makes article too long, & probably useless, I would agree to reduce the quantity up to 50 best companies according the provided source. KhabarNegar Talk 05:19, 25 March 2014 (UTC)
