Former Sheffield Companies

[edit]

Would it be an idea to expand the list with a section on companies which used to be in Sheffield, but have now been lost through mergers and take overs or have ceased trading, as alot of famouse names absorbed during nationalisations of the steel industry. Others relating to the cutlery industry have died out over the years. Newton chambers, NCK, Brown Bailey, English steel, Firth vickers, Viners, Dixons, Wolstenholm, Downs surgical, Cravens, these just being a few that spring to mind. Obviously it abit chicken and Egg as to List or Article first, as a list need a good percentage of article linked to it, or else its just a possible article list.

Was an Idea to expand coverage of Sheffield history and Businesses, as current list has several (companies) listed with little significance. But historical businesses are missing (or have I missed a significant link else ware ?

---I'd love to read more about these historic companies, like what the Atlas works was all about, please go ahead and write stuff about them, anywhere would do really! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 109.151.73.125 (talk) 22:06, 22 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Companies with no Significant connection to Sheffield

[edit]

Some of the firms on the list have no significant connection to Sheffield, other than doing business in the city as do hundreds of other firms not on the list.

  • Barclay's Bank
  • George Wimpy

The linked articles have no reference to Sheffield in them (at a quick glance). Why do they count as Sheffield Businesses ? BulldozerD11 (talk) 03:43, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

does Barclay's have a big back-office center somewhere on the edge of Sheffield? (like HSBC's giant IT center perhaps?) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 143.167.193.54 (talk) 10:55, 16 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
