List of colonial heads of French Indochina → List of Governors-General of French Indochina — Let's get rid of this "colonial head" nonsense. The majority of figures on this page were governors-general, and it will not confuse the reader if we generously extend the list to include some figures who weren't titled "Governor-General". - Support. "Colonial head" sound like a formal name of some kind, but appears to be an "invented here" Wiki phrase. If the multimove goes through, this list could be Governors of French Indochina. Kauffner (talk) 05:33, 10 November 2011 (UTC)

Another Vietnamese-style seal of the Governor-General?
[edit]Hello @Great Brightstar:, I found this image of an alternative Vietnamese-style seal at An article on the website of the Vietnamese State Archives. What's interesting is that this seal is from the early 1940's so it's possible that the seal that's currently in the article was replaced by another one. Unfortunately, I cannot read seal script so maybe you can ask for help investigating with this, so we know if the seal in this article needs to have more context added or not.
As this could have been a seal with a specific function or was the replacement for the earlier seal. Interestingly enough, this appears to be a Chinese Seal Script seal used by a French colonial official on a French-language document as opposed to one in Classical Chinese where I found the other seal. Oddly enough the French document also uses the Vietnamese Imperial calendar, so I am not sure if this is meant to be a Nguyễn dynasty document or an official French document (likely both). --Donald Trung (talk) 23:31, 30 January 2022 (UTC)
- I think the content of that seal should be 御前文房, which is probably a part of Nguyen Court. --Great Brightstar (talk) 17:45, 1 February 2022 (UTC)
- @Great Brightstar:, I already suspected that it wasn't the Governor-General's seal since today, especially since only his signature for approval is listed. I will assume that the function of the Ngự tiền văn phòng (御前文房) is then probably similar to that of the Ngự tiền chi bảo (御前之寶), which was used on official proclamations. Is it possible that the final character reads Phòng (防) instead of Phòng (房)? --Donald Trung (talk) 19:32, 1 February 2022 (UTC)
- No, I don't think so. I'm sure that the last character is 房. --Great Brightstar (talk) 21:12, 1 February 2022 (UTC)
- I think it's no doubt after seen from the following sources: [1] [2] --Great Brightstar (talk) 21:19, 1 February 2022 (UTC)

- @Great Brightstar:, you're correct, it's the seal of the Ngự tiền văn phòng, which according to the Zh-wiki entry for Phạm Quỳnh, "保大七年九月二十五日(1932年10月24日),保大帝新設御前文房,並任命范瓊為御前文房總理大臣。", So you're correct. --Donald Trung (talk) 07:38, 2 February 2022 (UTC)
