- The title of this page should be "List of universities and colleges in Prince Edward Island". In keeping a standard with the other provinces of canada pages, the polital division is used, i.e. PEI is a province. The geographical use of the island to describe PEI should not be used as no other province has a page divided by a geographial term. Tolivero (talk) 17:57, 7 June 2008 (UTC)
- It's improper grammar. If you want it moved again, use the official method of WP:MOVE. GreenJoe 02:33, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
- Actually, I would argue they are both correct. Universities on the island or universities in the province; the province and the island, of course, share the name. DoubleBlue (Talk) 02:50, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, they both are correct, but this page uses PEI as the political subdivison, referring to the province, not the geographical use as the island. Jpollock (talk) 21:02, 20 June 2008 (UTC)

- Title shouls use "in", as its the province. The first line of the article clearly state they are universities in PEI. Meganfox (talk) 10:11, 27 June 2008 (UTC)

List of universities and colleges on Prince Edward Island → List of universities and colleges in Prince Edward Island — correct grammar is "*in* Prince Edward Island"; it's the name of the *province*, not just of the *island* —Jpollock (talk) 10:05, 27 June 2008 (UTC)

- Oppose, improper grammar. Me-123567-Me (talk) 17:03, 27 June 2008 (UTC)
- Support. Clearly this article is a list of universities and colleges in the province just as the other provincial lists do. The fact that the province is an island is irrelevant in this instance. DoubleBlue (Talk) 17:13, 27 June 2008 (UTC)
- Support - what DoubleBlue said. And it's not improper grammar. These lists refer to the political entity, not the geographic one. If we ever start organzing these lists by geographic area (e.g. List of universities and colleges in the Ottawa Valley), then by all means we can say "on PEI". Skeezix1000 (talk) 18:34, 27 June 2008 (UTC)
- Support per DoubleBlue, and per frequency of usage (see below). DigitalC (talk) 06:12, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
Discussion
[edit]- Any additional comments:
- I disagree with Skeezix1000. "By province" is a geographic area. So is a city. It says nothing about political areas. Me-123567-Me (talk) 18:56, 27 June 2008 (UTC)
- The lists are organized by province. In this case, the province (a political entity) also happens to a be a geographic area, but these lists are not organized by geographic entities, so in this case the reference is to the political entity. Skeezix1000 (talk) 20:04, 28 June 2008 (UTC)
- Provinces are not necessarily geographic areas, they ARE definitely political. In this case it is a geographical area as well, but that does not mean it is incorrect grammar to say "In PEI". DigitalC (talk) 06:07, 30 June 2008 (UTC)

- A google search for "In PEI" turns up 209,000 hits, while "On PEI" turns up 114,000. A search for "In Prince Edward Island" turns up 492,000 while "On Prince Edward Island" turns up 162,000 hits. Clearly "In" is more frequently used than "On" when referring to PEI. DigitalC (talk) 06:11, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
