Revert explained
Okay, why I reverted.
- Headers - Don't use first-order headers (=Main characters=), per Wikipedia:Manual of Style (headings)#Markup. I don't know why it's that way, but it is.
- Supporting/Minor characters - I understand why you might not want to classify Romanenko and Mei Ling as minor characters, so I just renamed the whole third header "Supporting characters". There's no need to break this up any more than it already is.
Anything else I forgot? - A Man In Black (conspire | past ops) 05:08, 9 November 2005 (UTC)
Something I think that should be mentioned for Donald Anderson: He is in fact Mr. Sigint from Metal Gear Solid III. In the end of the game when the timeline is shown, it reveals that Mr. Sigint joined DARPA (sometime in the 70s). I believe there may be more that reveals they are one and the same person but I am not positive. I believe that should be added just because it is an interesting connection to Big Boss.
Sigint and Anderson being the same is theory, not fact. Wikipedia has to be encyclopedic. Also, Sigint joined ARPA in 1965; not in the 70s.
- I personally think they should be separate. Although, interaction with Mei Ling and Nastasha are not mandatory to clear the game, they each have a very established backstory and support the player with info and advice, compared to Anderson and such, who are only in the game for a couple of scenes to further the plot and nothing more. Jonny2x4 13:17, 9 November 2005 (UTC)
- If DARPA cheif and SIGINT are the same than they should be but in the recurring MGS characters page
- They're peripheral to the main story being told, you say? ;D
- I think any distinctions like that can be made in the characters' listing, rather than splitting this down any more than necessary. - A Man In Black (conspire | past ops) 00:51, 10 November 2005 (UTC)
- Wait, I had another idea. Why not eliminate the list entries for the minor characters, like Houseman and Anderson, and just mention them as part of a terse list in the games' entries? - A Man In Black (conspire | past ops) 00:52, 10 November 2005 (UTC)
- No. It's
perfectadequate as it is right now. Jonny2x4 04:49, 10 November 2005 (UTC)
- No. It's
- I dunno...I still prefer the major characters of the games to have their own page. I mean, it's not like the List of minor Star Wars characters and its followings like List of minor Star Wars Jedi characters, where some of the characters details are kept short, and those with long paragraphs don't have the extra "chapters" within them anyhow (not really your fault, but the text size of "Gameplay" under Psycho Mantis is roughly the same size as "Sniper Wolf", which still makes things pretty convoluted). And there are still spoilers within (not just with the game's plot, but with the fate of the individual characters).
- If we're to keep this though, the list of Metal Gear characters should include links to Solid Snake, Meryl, Gray Fox, and etc, at the least as well. And of course, the See Also list that is in there, should be in the other three. Also, The Boss is missing from the Metal Gear Solid 3 list. Shadowolf 10:09, 13 November 2005 (UTC)
- Bear in mind that this is still in the process of being rewritten to cut trivia and needlessly overdetailed plot summary.
- When this list is done, there will be short descriptions of the characters who have their own articles, with {{main}} links to the main articles. For example, this list will have short descriptions of Solid Snake and Grey Fox with an eye to their role in Metal Gear Solid, with a {{main}} link pointing to their main articles. I'm going to make a listing like this for Solid Snake in List of Metal Gear Solid 2 characters, shortly, to show people an example. - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 11:26, 13 November 2005 (UTC)
Sniper Wolf's Bio
There are a few things I noticed in Sniper Wolf’s bio that I have never heard of before. Does anyone know what the source of information is for the following? In Metal Gear Solid, Sniper Wolf… “used special 'mercury-chip' rounds to poison the target(s).” “At the age of five, near the end of the Iran-Iraq War in 1988, she witnessed the death of her family and thousands of others as they died to a gas attack by Saddam Hussein's troops.” “[Sniper Wolf] followed him [Big Boss] in whatever he did until his death by Solid Snake. At this point, Liquid Snake was able to find her and convince her to join FOXHOUND.”
I think the line about her addiction to tranquilizers should be deleted. Unless someone can provide the proof that in canon she has an addiction that line is speculation.
Someone like her who can wait days for a target doesn't have time to deal with an addiction. Albeit the tranquilizers she takes may help her metabolism stay subdued, nowhere is it mentioned that she is addicted to them.
The line about her not being affected by FOXDIE should be edited to mention that Revolver Ocelot and Liquid Snake think the reason she isn't affected is because of the pills she takes. I'm editing that line. TotalTommyTerror 15:38, 17 November 2005 (UTC)
- I forget which person it is, but one of the people on the comlink mention that she's addicted to Diazepam or Pentazemin, depending on which of the two versions of the game it is. As for the second edit, though, that's fine. - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 15:42, 17 November 2005 (UTC)
It is mentioned by Ocelot while Snake is listening in on his conversation with Liquid (203.167.171.13 00:45, 2 February 2006 (UTC))
I have a question. Where in the game does it say that Sniper Wolf was brainwashed by the Iraqi ministry of affairs and that she was in a refugee camp in Iraq when she met Big Boss and the secretary of state? Also where does it say she was trained by a Gurkha Sniper? It just seems like Fanfic. Unless someone can proof it is canon. I'm editing it. Thank you. George Ramos
Dominant and Recessive ; Solid and Liquid
In the Liquid Snake article it is stated that he had the superior dominant genes. Excuse me for my lack of knowledge on this subject, but shouldn't Snake have the Dominant genes? He looks much more similar to Naked Snake then Liquid does, and I believe that the ending meant that although Liquid recieved Ressecive genes, he was still superior to Solid Snake. Please correct me if I am wrong on any of these subjects, as I stated before, I do not know a whole lot about any of them.--Yoshimitsu blade 04:20, 27 November 2005 (UTC)
- It's made clear in the MGS ending, Solid Snake got the recessive, Liquid Snake got the dominant. Other than that, don't think about it too hard; it doesn't make a lot of sense if you know even a little about genetics. - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 04:41, 27 November 2005 (UTC)
Misconception. What is made clear in the MGS ending is that Liquid Snake was in fact the superior. Ocelot does not use the terms recessive or dominant. As such, it is possible (though by no means certain) that Liquid was simply mistaken about the recessive genes being flawed. Since Solid Snake displays far more similarities to Big Boss than either of his "brothers" - it does seem to make more sense to think that Solid Snake is expressing the "flawed" dominant genes - that Liquid mistakenly believes to be "superior".
The Solider Genes were not identified until after Big Boss' death after all, so it's not like the scientists knew which genes were going to be the best for what - they likely just guessed that dominant meant better, since they're the ones that Big Boss was expressing.
You are however, entirely right about it not making any sense if you know even a little bit about genetics. :D

Octopus
Regarding the information about Decoy Octopus (originally added by 139.139.193.12) that I removed, there is nothing given anywhere in Metal Gear Solid or The Twin Snakes about Octopus having "DNA-absorption techniques". There is no cutscene in either game showing Octopus "drinking/licking Donald Anderson's blood to take on his appearance and characteristics" (which is what 139.139.193.12 listed in his edit summary). In fact, the 'real' Octopus is only seen once, and it's when he's dead. Just thought I'd post this in case anyone wondered about it. - DoubleCross 17:22, 10 January 2006 (UTC)
Liquid
Liquid should go on the "recurring characters" page. His soul is in side Ocelot but he's still Liquid and does play some part in Mgs2. The Bread 04:58, 2 March 2006 (UTC)
I agree, if Master Miller, who actually only appeareed in one game, is on the reacurring characters page, than Liquid should. Takuthehedgehog 19:50, 15 May 2006 (UTC)
Master Miller appeared in two games, MG2 and MGS. 200.112.160.47 01:34, 14 September 2006 (UTC)
Hunter in MGS4
Isnt just speculation that naomi is returning to the MGS4 based solely on the poster (the blue one with snake, vamp, raiden ect.). I'm saying this, because I have heard that the hooded figure that is suspected to be Naomi, might even be Fortune (Im pretty sure she didnt die at the end of MGS2). If anybody has any proof either way tell me.
Pgiii 21:16, 18 March 2006 (UTC)
According to Wikipedia's article on Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, it was confirmed in the May 20th 2005 issue of Weekly Famitsu that the hooded figure is Naomi Hunter. Furthermore, Naomi also appeared in the E3 2006 trailer for MGS4.
Vulcan Raven and Snowcrash
Vulcan Raven has several similar qualities to the chracter Raven from Snowcrash, and I thought the paralelles were close enough to at least merit some kind of mention. Besides the near future settings of their backgrounds Briefly, they are comparable in that Raven is an Aleut, Vulcan Raven is an inuit, both have russian accents, both have tattoos on their forehead (V.R a raven, Raven a warning stamp) Both are unusually large, both work for an almost religious figure-head (Big Boss, Liquid Snake and L. Bob Rife respectively) and of course, both are involved in some way with plots to 'nuke America'.

Mei Ling isn't the only one...
Nasthasha Romanenko also has a voice-over only cameo in Metal Gear Solid 2.
In substance, whenever Snake would get the 2nd best score She would say "You know what your doing..."
- Actually, that's Olga's voice. She says the exact same line in the main game. Maetch 21:52, 1 December 2006 (UTC)
FOXDIE victims
The virus was scheduled to kill Solid Snake (who was actually the vector, it's suposed that he is still infected so he could die suddently at any time), Liquid Snake, Revolver Ocelot, Psycho Mantis, Sniper Wolf, Vulcan Raven, Decoy Octopus and Kenneth Baker right? There are only three of them who are actually killed by the virus itself: Decoy Octopus, Kenneth Baker and Liquid Snake. The three of them aren't killed immediatly, it take quite a while. What I mean is what Liquid and Ocelot talk about Mantis not being infected because the mask and Wolf due to the tranquilisers (Diazepam) is just a theory of Liquid who is not awarded of the functioning of the virus. So, Raven, Wolf and Mantis are probably killed by Snake before the virus can actually take effect.
Black Dollar 19 November 2006
- The way I see it, whereas Octopus and Baker were killed within moments of exposure, Liquid and Ocelot were exposed when they met Snake in the torture room. The likely reason as to why Liquid didn't die as suddenly as the others may be due to the "wildcard factor" that is part of Snake's infection. Since the two Snakes share the same DNA, they were both vulnerable to succumbing to FOXDIE at any time. Unfortunately for Liquid, the virus kicked in at the very end of the game. As for Ocelot, in the "Twin Snakes" version, there is an additional part of dialogue during his call to "Mr. President" where he mentions having been applied with the vaccine beforehand.
