The link to Gauss map is wrong. There is a chaotic gauss map but it is not the map of the link.--Pokipsy76 12:48, 3 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Spruced up

[edit]

So I did the following:

  • took out generic maps, ie maps that aren't specifically associated with chaotic maps
  • moved some fractals to the section below
  • put stuff into a table
  • added dimensionality etc of the map

I don't know why the select list of fractals is underneath, given that this page is a list of maps - should it be removed?

I also think that the redlinked entries possibly need to be vetted as well, and extra info added to the extra table columns for them (even if they don't get a wikipage each). 59.167.48.220 (talk) 13:59, 29 October 2009 (UTC)Dave[reply]

Gauss map

[edit]

There should be a link for the Gauss map, that is, the nonlinear one-dimensional map using a gaussian (Bifurcation diagram for the Gauss map). This map is also know as mouse map, because the bifurcation diagram looks like a mouse.

Perhaps we should create another entry with the same name. Is it possible/adequate?

squaring map vs. quadratic map

[edit]

Is there a difference between the complex quadratic map and the complex squaring map? They look the same to me, or at least the squaring is a particular case of the quadratic.

Hoping to identify a chaotic map I stumbled across

[edit]

I stumbled across a 2-dimensional chaotic map the other day and was hoping to identify it. I posted a question on the Math StackExchange but didn't get much of a response.

The map is fairly simple:

where k is a constant.

You can see my post here, which includes animations demonstrating the behavior of the map:

https://math.stackexchange.com/questions/2654984/identifying-this-chaotic-recurrence-relation

Here's a link to one of the animations: https://i.stack.imgur.com/FHSUH.gif

Was hoping someone involved in this page might be able to identify which chaotic map this is. (I'm assuming it isn't novel.)

Rayleigh-Benard chaotic oscillator

[edit]

Rayleigh-Benard convection is usually described by a PDE. Yet in this list it is listed has having a 3d phase space and 3 parameters. this should get fixed. Infinite dimensional systems (PDEs) more generally in this list do not seem to be identified as such. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Topoltergeist (talkcontribs) 15:51, 22 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
