comment

[edit]

I have removed from the list some expression which I thought were too flip, POV and unencyclopedic. These were:

  • are among the denizens here
  • rest here in peace
  • rests here in peace
  • share haunting rights here
  • are among those haunting this Woodlawn

I hope the author doesn't mind - and goes on adding the good stuff he has been - but I just don't think it works to use forms of words like that here. I do sympathize with the fact that it is boring to keep saying "is buried here" but I don't feel that the above were a good substitute. 62.30.150.99 07:38 Apr 18, 2003 (UTC)

Cemeteries?

[edit]

There is a broken link to Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Newark, NJ —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.193.3.147 (talk) 00:55, 4 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I think this article isn't just about cemeteries but also about other burial places like cathedrals and mausoleums. I think it would make sense to change the title of this article to "List of burial sites" or maybe to "List of famous burial sites". I think that's more fitting and also includes cathedrals and mausoleums. --Maxl 21:00, 14 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

St. Peter's Basilica

[edit]

St. Peter's Basilica is listed under the "Italy" section, but I am sure it is a well-known fact that St. Peter's Basilica and the entire Vatican are completely separate from the Italian state. - A.T.

United States Cemeteries article is gone

[edit]

The American article that is linked to by this page has been deleted but nobody bothered to update this page. Gotta love bureaucracy.

It is gone because of the AFD discussion. GRBerry 03:06, 4 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Which is the largest?

[edit]

Try searching through all instances of the word "large" on this page, and you will run into a good few of which the description claims is the largest cemetary in the world.

I know that something like this is hard to confirm, but the conflicting claims look strange.

I was just going to write about that... The guinness book of records says the largest one is Ohlsdorf Cemetery, not Rose Hills Memorial Park or Piskaryovskoye Memorial Cemetery. --Cancerbero 8 08:34, 5 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Cemeteries are determined by their definition at a given point in time. Ohlsdorf is pretty big (just shy of 400 hectares), but there are much bigger cemeteries such as Brookwood Cemetery (in the UK) but it depends how you define a cemetery (Brookwood is originally one cemetery, but has been split up, it used to have it's own railway line and two railway stations). It still has it's own railway station (depending on which side you leave the current railway station) although that station also serves Brookwood Village. But undoubtably the biggest "cemetery" in the world is Wadi-us-Salaam in Iraq. Sunnite Muslims have been burying their dead there for over 1.400 years. The surface area is "only" just over 600 hectares, and it is estimated that around 6 million people have been buried there, although it is not unlikely that it is more like 10 million. List of cemeteries

[edit]

I did a search sort for cemetery articles not listed in List of cemeteries. I posted the results at User:Bebestbe/New cemeteries. Please feel free to add the cemeteries listed User:Bebestbe/New cemeteries to List of cemeteries. Thanks. -- Bebestbe (talk) 04:36, 13 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

World's second-largest cemetery

[edit]

I've created a very short article on the world's second-largest cemetery: Ohlsdorf Cemetery. It has an interwiki link to its counterpart on German Wikipedia, which is an article of respectable length.

Is there some WikiProject to whom articles on cemeteries are of interest? Michael Hardy (talk) 18:45, 22 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

New Discussion

[edit]

A discussion has been started at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Countries/Lists of countries which could affect the inclusion criteria and title of this and other lists of countries. Editors are invited to participate. Pfainuk talk 13:37, 17 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

THIS LIST

[edit]

Now that the death project has started, and is active - this list will be slowly devolved to country lists and this list will simply become a list of links to country lists - it is otherwise too difficult to manage, monitor or keep in any way a coherent list in its current form. Any issues with this change - please take your concerns to the WP:DEATH project talk pages for centralised discussion - thanks SatuSuro 02:57, 21 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

To elaborate -

1. current form

  • X country - the lists may contain embedded ext links (incorrect MOS), commentary, POV claims, all red links, mix of red and blue links, and other variations

2. new form

  • X country - link to a list of cemeteries in X country

This should take some time to process and a checklist of the progress will be kept at the death project. SatuSuro 03:01, 21 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A re-organise and tidy-up is well overdue, thanks for starting this off. However, the DEATH page says "some comment at talk page is needed about this." So maybe any proposed changes in composition/style/grouping could be mentioned here? Also please remember that many of the cemeteries here are also notable for their architectural or social importance, which is beyond the scope of the Death project. Ephebi (talk) 13:31, 27 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
There is no stopping people with the refs (WP:RS) to add material that can add the architectural and social history issues (and project tags on the talk pages) to the separated lists SatuSuro 13:35, 27 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Botswana

[edit]

The Botswana section doesn't list any cemeteries. It's a list of people who have died. As clear as it is that this should be changed, I'm always hesitant to delete large sections that someone has worked on without first putting the issue on a talk page. Is there any reason that I'm missing on why the Botswana section is like this? Cosmo1976 (talk) 16:48, 16 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I can speak English too. I will look into it, thanks. Drafnasteinmx (talk) 21:09, 15 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
