[edit]This revision converts the article to the taxonomy of the American Ornithological Society's Check-list of North and Middle American Birds for consistency with other western hemisphere lists for entities north of South America. In addition it brings the list itself up to date. The specific changes, which follow AOS unless noted otherwise, are:
- Revise the sequence of families.
- Revise the Orders of families Apodidae (swifts) and Trochilidae (hummingbirds).
- Revise the sequence of species in family Columbidae (pigeons and doves).
- Revise the sequence of species in family Charadriidae (plovers and lapwings).
- Revise the sequence of species in family Scolopacidae (sandpipers and allies).
- Revise the sequence of species in family Accipitridae (hawks, eagles, and kites).
- Revise the sequence of species in family Tyrannidae (tyrant flycatchers).
- Revise the sequence of species in family Hirundinidae (swallows).
- Delete two species per Avibase.
- Revise the text, counts, and references to reflect the above.
