The Black Eyed Peas

Well, i want to say thank you so much, to the editor in this list which responsed all edit request very fast... Okay, next...

After i ask to include TLC and updated the claim sales of Santana, New Kids on The Block, Whitney Houston, and Taylor Swift... i hope, i dont bother you to checking the others claim sales..

I've seen that The Black Eyed Peas still claim to have sold 56m-records based from the MTV sources... but, today i have found several sources which claim their sales records in different count... here the sources :

1. The source from MSN stated the group have sold 60m-records..http://entertainment.malaysia.msn.com/celebrity/william-making-music-is-like-being-a-chef

2. The Source from Pasadena Now stated the group have sold 65m-records..http://www.pasadenanow.com/main/local-group-to-honor-positive-hispanic-portrayals-in-film-television

2. The sources from The Daily Telegraph and MTV UK and Ireland stated the group have sold 35 million albums and 41 million singles...the combination stand at 76 million....: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/music/music-news/7825468/Black-Eyed-Peas-song-I-Gotta-Feeling-set-to-be-first-million-selling-download.html http://www.mtv.co.uk/news/black-eyed-peas/225954-black-eyed-peas-william-fergie

and beside... they certification sales has reached nearly 50m... well, i think the sources from The Telegraph and MTV UK for their 76 million claim is reliable enough.. and they deserved to follow Taylor Swift as the new member in 70m-club..

Please... need your advised and consider... thanks. 39.208.236.246 (talk) 11:32, 20 September 2012 (UTC)

Done I used the article by The Telegraph. It's no bother, if they have enough certified sales to meet the requirements, we can update.--Harout72 (talk) 15:19, 20 September 2012 (UTC)

R. Kelly

Well... i have seen that the black bald singer R. Kelly certification has been passed the 50m, but his sales stuck at 50 million... today i try to find others records sales of him which might be higher that previous claim... but most of the sources, always cited ALBUMS which is not acceptable in this list... but, i really surprised seeing this source... which is from a very reliable source for a black artist..

Black Entertainment Television.. http://www.bet.com/music/photos/2012/01/the-evolution-of-r-kelly.html... speaking about the evolution of R. Kelly, the black bald... if you see in one of the pictures published on that site, it is written like this..:

the superstar singer/songwriter/producer has sold over 150 million records worldwide

wow, it seems so inflated... but this is confusing... BET is widely regarded as the most reliable source of any entertainment from a black artist... is this reliable?.... please advised.... thanks... 39.210.229.207 (talk) 06:32, 21 September 2012 (UTC)

No, BET is not accepted on here, they have a history of publishing inflated sales figures due to poor research and poor editorial control. The 150 is inflated by good 70 million units. R Kelly's actual figure should be somewhere in the neighborhood of 70 million. Besides for an artist who's begun charting in 1992, the claimed figure needs to be supported by 38% certified sales (or 57 million for 150 million).--Harout72 (talk) 15:18, 21 September 2012 (UTC)

Where is N'sync ??

Well, to be honest... i don't like their song, I do.. i really do... but it doesn't mean that i dont respected them... their are very famous worldwide but it seem's tragic seeing their name not include on this list.... so please considered my opinion.:

I have try to find a reliable source of their claim sales, but the 56 million figures mostly from un-reliable sources... I have found this source from The Observer... http://www.guardian.co.uk/theobserver/2001/jan/21/features.review107.

If you read the article... it was stated.. He discovered and moulded Backstreet Boys, NSync and LFO who between them have sold almost 50 million records... i'm not sure, the 50m records is refered to Backstreet Boys/NSync/LFO?... please need your advised... but in my opinion, it was refered to them equally..

and I have found this source, from The New York Times...http://www.nytimes.com/2007/10/21/fashion/21lance.html?_r=1&adxnnl=1&pagewanted=all&adxnnlx=1348221612-ktK210Jl2UyApyFCIwFy6w...

But the article stated that N'sync sold 50 million ALBUMS, not records as the rule of this list... but like the statement in top of the list.. Sources must say records not albums, unless no such sources are available... there is no sources are available for 50m-records claim but, we have the very reliable source for 50m-albums....

beside... again, let's face it... this boyband is extremely famous, even their two albums going DIAMOND (10m) in U.S only...

Need your consider... thanks.. 182.5.160.48 (talk) 10:55, 21 September 2012 (UTC)

We can use the article by The New York Times stating 50 million albums ONLY if the 90% of their certified sales are based on albums. In other words, they should have at least 22 million certified albums sales, making the 50 million album claim supported by 44% certified sales since they've first charted in 1996. That's the only time the statement "unless no such sources are available" can apply. I shall go over Nsync's certified sales, and posted on here soon.--Harout72 (talk) 15:38, 21 September 2012 (UTC)
Done Their available certified units come up to 32.7 million, 29.1 million of which is for albums (that's 89%).--Harout72 (talk) 17:43, 21 September 2012 (UTC)

Ricky Martin, Reba McEntire, Vicente Fernandez

Well, it seem's most of my edit request in this talk page, has been reliable... thank you.

Alright, to be honest.. i'm not sure with this edit request, because i see the source from those three artist is not prestigious, even is come from a news service, but...why not... just suggest... if reliable:

1. Ricky Martin... The Latin Pop Homosexual Singer has been cited to have sold 60m-records... i have try to find any higher claim sales for that gayman, and i just found from Guardian.co.uk and MTV UK and Ireland... both were claim that fag, have sold 70m-records.. http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/ricky-martin http://www.mtv.co.uk/artists/ricky-martin

2. Reba McEntire... to be honest... I really don't know her, even never hearing her in my country... i just know Twain, Hill, and Swift... her claim in this list were 50m-records, but her certification sales were so high... I have found the source from The Orange County Register, which is claim her to have sold 60m-records... http://www.ocregister.com/entertainment/died-152695-actor-actress.html

3. Vicente Fernandez... i never heard his name since i was born on earth... but accidentally i read his name today on Chicago Tribune and the article stated he has sold 60m-records, but why his name doesn't include in this list...? http://articles.chicagotribune.com/1998-11-13/news/9811130104_1_mariachi-mi-alma-songs

Please advised... those sources is not prestigious as the others sources (Telegraph, Times, BBC, CNN) but if reliable enough... why not?... please change the claim sales and include their name in this list... thank you...182.15.96.118 (talk) 06:13, 22 September 2012 (UTC)

If you want to be heard, I suggest you stop making immature and insensitive remarks as you have done above. If you can't handle yourself properly, then please just refrain from Wikipedia in general.--CallMeNathanTalk2Me 07:10, 22 September 2012 (UTC)

Ow... is someone hurt with my remarks above, especially regarding with RICKY MARTIN?.. Well, to be honest, i just write that for fun... because this is just a talk page, which is could be erased whenever it will be end of the talk or not appropriate... please, do not take it seriously, i not editing or vandalism of the main page... this is just a talk page...

But i'm sorry if it makes you hurt.... and thank you for responding my remarks above... I will try to stop making any un-usual remarks in this page... and by the way, everyone know martin is Gay... i think is not a big deal to write some un-usual word for him.. he is a public figure, is that right?... we can speaks anything about him in this page... as long, there is no personnal attack between the reader and the editor..

Alright... straight to the point... if you were one of the editor in this list... please advised my edit requested above, only regarding the claim sales of those artist and the source?... thank you..182.15.96.118 (talk) 08:44, 22 September 2012 (UTC)

That's fine. It would just be more appropriate if you could carry yourself in a more mature and respectable manner. Anyway, to the point. I can't see Martin being upgraded, simply because his certifications are too low. As for McEntire, I'm all for it, but I'd love maybe another more reliable source (but I guess it might do). As for Fernandez, I am not familiar with his certifications, so I wouldn't be able to really give you my fair opinion. I'll leave it at this and wait for more feedback from other editors before we make any changes. Be patient.--CallMeNathanTalk2Me 09:48, 22 September 2012 (UTC)
To the anonymous IP, we are here to discuss sales figures and certified sales, not the sexual orientation of the artists. And that can be done without bringing up how they're known to the public.

Whua ha ha ha.... ok, thanks for remind me... to be honest, i dont want make any fight with you Mr. Harout, because i'm so much respected you as the most fastest and reliable editor i have ever seen in Wikipedia history... I do, i really do...

So that, thank you for updating of Reba McEntire... is not easy and nearly difficult if the claim sources only from Telegraph, BBC, Times, and CNN only...

I hope you don't mind if i spend my free time by finding a new claim source of those artist in this list and asking to you for help... thank you.. 39.212.99.194 (talk) 04:39, 23 September 2012 (UTC)

Pink

Billboard published that Pink's sales are over 110 million, so I wondered why it hasn't been included on this list? Here is the source: http://www.billboard.biz/bbbiz/industry/publishing/publishing-briefs-pink-re-ups-with-emi-universal-1006648552.story Jagoperson (talk) 14:27, 22 September 2012 (UTC)

Pink has begun charting in 2000, which requires her claimed figure be supported by 50% certified sales based on the requirements of this list. In other words, her 110 million claim should be supported by 55 million certified units. Pink's available certified units are only just under 31 million, which can support a sales of 62 million.--Harout72 (talk) 16:31, 22 September 2012 (UTC)
Oh. But why isn't she on the list with 62 million?Jagoperson (talk) 17:01, 22 September 2012 (UTC)
She could get on the list if a reliable source is located claiming maximum of 62 million.--Harout72 (talk) 17:20, 22 September 2012 (UTC)

If could give my opinion... this is weird... especially if you read the article from VH1... http://www.vh1.com/music/tuner/2012-08-21/vh1-storytellers-taylor-swift-alicia-keys-pink/.... if i'm not mistaken, the article stated that Pink sold 32 million albums, 65 million singles... we always use VH1 as the most reliable source, and how about this one..???

beside... i have others source from USA Today... http://www.usatoday.com/life/music/story/2012/09/18/pink-learns-the-truth-about-love/57797248/1... which claim that Pink not even reach 40m-records sold.... Since her 2000 debut, she has sold 13.4 million albums and 22.8 million digital tracks...

This is so confusing.... please advised... thanks..182.14.180.253 (talk) 11:16, 24 September 2012 (UTC)

She can only be inserted if the claim figure is 62 million maxium. Please read my explanation on her certified sales above.--Harout72 (talk) 15:44, 24 September 2012 (UTC)

Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers

Well, i really don't know who are they??... or who they are?... and i really even don't want to know who they are!... But, i see they started their music career in 1976, well that's 36 years ago... but their certification sales is quite excellent for ONLY 50m-records... so that, i try to find any higher claim for them... and i have found 3 sources, which claim they have sold 60m-records...:

1. Santa Barbara Independent... http://www.independent.com/news/2011/oct/24/tom-petty-and-heartbreakers-play-kcsnla-benefit-co/ 2. ABC... http://abc.go.com/music-lounge/artist/tom-petty-and-the-heartbreakers/325508 3. NBC... http://www.nbc.com/saturday-night-live/news/2010/05/05/alec-baldwin-and-legendary-musical-guest-tom-petty-and-the-heartbreakers-highlight-snl-season-finale/

which source is the most reliable?... please, need your help... thanks...39.212.99.194 (talk) 05:01, 23 September 2012 (UTC)

 Done Updated.--Harout72 (talk) 08:28, 23 September 2012 (UTC)

Kenny G

OMG... i'm crazy with his music, i do..i really do... i dont know, you want to hear this or not, but trust me. the first album that i buy when i was 7 years old is KENNY G Instrumental...

I've seen that his claim in this list stand at 70m-records... but i have found this source... from The Telegraph (Alton)...http://www.thetelegraph.com/arts_and_entertainment/article_8ba29b36-0454-11e2-ad66-0019bb30f31a.html...

This source claim that Kenny G (Widely regarded as the most and the biggest instrumental musicians in earth history) sold 75m-records... i know, is not so far from his old claim source, but at least it bring him to stand equally with Beyonce, The Spice Girls, Nirvana, and Black Eyed Peas... the 75m-club... thanks.. 39.212.99.194 (talk) 05:29, 23 September 2012 (UTC)

 Done Updated.--Harout72 (talk) 08:28, 23 September 2012 (UTC)

Engelbert Humperdinck ????

Could someone please help me to introduced him?... i really don't know who (i'm sorry) the h3ll he is..?.. except, how so narcissistic he is...?.. so desperate to proclaimed he have sold 150 million records....http://www.timeoutabudhabi.com/knowledge/features/31005-engelbert-humperdinck...

"I first started my success in 1967 and I've sold 150 million records"

OMG... Please.. (hueeekkk....)

Please remind me, i don't see his name in this list... But why BBC News and Daily Mail... stated him, have sold 150 million records...

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-2110786/Englebert-Humperdincks-manager-reveals-brought-singer-success.html

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-leicestershire-18114654

Are these sources reliable?... is incredible seeing his name equally with U.2 and Billy Joel.... please advised... thanks..39.212.99.194 (talk) 06:18, 23 September 2012 (UTC)

Not done Humperdinck's sales claims need to be supported by 15% certified sales which is 22.5 million units for 150 million. I see RIAA has some 7 million certified units, and BPI has some 400,000 units. Not a chance for him to be on the list with 7.4 million.--Harout72 (talk) 08:00, 23 September 2012 (UTC)

Whua ha ha ha hu hu (..uhukk, uhukk)... i can't imagine how his face, if he reads your explanation above... i just thinking, how many he pay BBC News and Daily Mail to stated his records sales stand on 150m-records...

I need your consider again... in the top of this list, there is statement like this:

All artists included on this list have their lowest available claimed figure(s) supported by at least 15% in certified units. That is why Cliff Richard, Alla Pugacheva, Charles Aznavour, Bing Crosby, Nana Mouskouri, Deep Purple, Tom Jones, The Jackson 5 and A. R. Rahman have not been included on this list.... could you please included Engelbert Humperdinck, in that statement???....(if possible)... thanks.. 39.215.196.193 (talk) 07:18, 24 September 2012 (UTC)

We don't have to include every single name, just a few is enough to give readers an idea as to why some artists with 100+ claims aren't on the list.--Harout72 (talk) 15:46, 24 September 2012 (UTC)

Red Hot Chili Peppers

Yeah...they are one of my music heroes..!... i have their albums in my box collection, and their pictures covering the wall inside my room...!..

I've seen their claim sales in this list... stuck at 50m-records, while their certification sales nearly reached 50m.. so that, as one of their fans.. it is my responsibility to put their honor in the place where they have to be...

I have found this source... from Romanian Newspaper... Nine O'Clock... http://www.nineoclock.ro/red-hot-chili-peppers-to-play-on-national-arena/... inside, it was stated like this :

Merging rock with funk, punk, hip-hop and psychedelic elements, Red Hot Chili Peppers created a unique style which made it a cult band, while ensuring sales of over 70 million copies of their ten studio albums.

I know, there is no statement records sales in that article, but regarding with the claim sales... is reliable that RHCP is sell 70m-records...

and also, i have found this source... Bloomberg Businessweek... http://www.businessweek.com/news/2011-11-10/red-hot-chili-peppers-strut-stage-at-tepid-rock-concert-review.html.... in that article, even stated the 70m-records sales claim of RHCP... but i'm not sure that source is reliable for this list..

Beside... i even found there are several source stated that they sold 80 million, but claim as ALBUMS not records.... need your consider... thanks..39.215.196.193 (talk) 07:18, 24 September 2012 (UTC)

 Done Updated.--Harout72 (talk) 23:45, 24 September 2012 (UTC)

Alan Jackson

I can't say anything about him, because i really don't know him... but, i have a sympathy for him... his certification sales is EXCELLENT, nearly 50 million and i think he deserve to claim more than 50 million sales...

So that, i have found this source from... The Daily Progress... http://www2.dailyprogress.com/entertainment/cdp-lifestyles/2012/may/18/alan-jackson-rocks-parking-lot-not-jukebox-ar-1922647/... this source, stated that Alan sell 60m-records.... even not too far from his previous claim, but at least better... need your advised.... thanks... 39.215.196.193 (talk) 07:18, 24 September 2012 (UTC)

Done Updated it. Alan Jackson deserved to have his claimed figure updated as he has a lot of certified sales (over 46 million).--Harout72 (talk) 23:16, 24 September 2012 (UTC)

R.E.M

Well, this group is one of my favorites also... even i just know one song from them... but, based on their certification sales, i think they have sold more than 50m... i have found this source.... from The Boston Globe...http://articles.boston.com/2011-11-15/ae/30402297_1_finest-worksong-rem-supernatural-superserious....which claim their records sales stand at 85 million but, i don't know this source is reliable because i can't open straight to the Bostonglobe source...

and beside, for your considered... Rolling Stones...http://www.rollingstone.com/music/blogs/alternate-take/exclusive-why-r-e-m-are-calling-it-quits-20110926... also supported their claim sales to 85m-copies...

Please... what do you think sir?.... thanks...39.215.196.193 (talk) 07:18, 24 September 2012 (UTC)

Done Updated, though the 85 million seems quite inflated based on their available certified sales. Unfortunately, it meets the requirements of this list as they have begun charting in 1983.--Harout72 (talk) 22:45, 24 September 2012 (UTC)

Iron Maiden ????

There is a lot of controversies regarding their claim sales... i was remember if one of the previous talk page stated that, the source from The New York Times which stated the 85m-records sales of Iron Maiden is not accepted.... http://www.nytimes.com/2010/09/06/business/media/06maiden.html?_r=0

Well... please remind me, i don't see their name put in this list... so, i try to find a reliable source for them which claim lower than 85m-records.... but it seems impossible, since all the claim sales is from un-reliable sources....

I have found two reliable sources from The Daily Telegraph and Reuters.... but both of that prestigious sources claim that Iron Maiden sell 70m-ALBUMS, not records....

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/music/rockandjazzmusic/3662220/Still-no-sign-of-metal-fatigue.html

http://uk.reuters.com/article/2009/04/15/uk-ironmaiden-idUKTRE53E5B420090415

This is confusing... is the statement of Sources must say records not albums, unless no such sources are available... could be used for them also...??

Please advised.... thanks..39.215.196.193 (talk) 07:18, 24 September 2012 (UTC)

Not done The 85 million cannot work for Iron Maiden as they need 18.4 million in certified units. Iron Maiden are already on the list with 70 million Records.--Harout72 (talk) 15:38, 24 September 2012 (UTC)

Where is ALICIA KEYS ????

Well, please advised... this girl is so talented, so highly intelligent (she was accepted to Columbia University) and so famous around the earth... but why her name not included on this list... is her certification sales is too low..?

Because, i have read this article from Daily Mail... http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-2188556/Alicia-Keys-slips-form-fitting-sheer-dress-unveils-new-album--Girl-On-Fire.html... which is stated, Alicia Keys has sold over 35 million albums, and more than 30 million singles... the combination stand at 65 million....

Please advised.... thanks... 182.14.180.253 (talk) 11:22, 24 September 2012 (UTC)

Done Alicia Key's now on the list. However, her certified sales 32.6 million needs to be 33.8 million as she's begun charting in 2001. Hopefully, she'll collect some more Gold/Platinum awards soon to fill in the missing gap.--Harout72 (talk) 22:45, 24 September 2012 (UTC)

Michael Bolton

Say i love but i lie.... if it more the love i feel inside... (OMG... I don't know, you don't want to know this or not... but please, imajine in your mind that 8 years old kid singing this song with a very BAD english and act like he was singing in the mountain same like Michael Bolton did in music video).... yups, that kid is me..!.

This man is so charismatic... he is the first male singer that make me fall in love... with his voice only..! and still as my favorite all the time...

Ow, by the way... his certification sales (more than 30m) is too good for only 50m-records claim.... please read this article from The Independent... http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/music/features/ballad-days-michael-bolton-the-most-reviled-man-in-pop-1794109.html...

He has sold more than 60m-records.... need your consider.. thanks.. 182.2.78.121 (talk) 06:09, 25 September 2012 (UTC)

Not done The source states Bolton has, after all, sold between 50 and 60 million records. The article doesn't specify the 60 million.--Harout72 (talk) 15:47, 25 September 2012 (UTC)

Really...? even the first statement in that article only mention the 60m-records claim for Bolton?... ohh... this is hurt me, because i really like him... i really do... well, i just a reader then whatever the rules... i will follow...

And... i need your advised sir, please.... is a local news from Asian like The Jakarta Post is reliable as the source in this list..? for example..http://www.thejakartapost.com/news/2010/05/22/romancing-with-michael-bolton.html... In one of their articles, it was stated that Bolton sold 53 million records.... well, i know it doesn't make any significant impact for him in this list, but at least better from previous....

Say I love You...But I lie (crying... for failing to pass this section into the list...)...39.209.7.57 (talk) 03:43, 26 September 2012 (UTC)

Alecia Beth Moore

Alright.... we are know her as PINK... Yup, the nasty but sexy girl with pinky hair... i'm sorry if i make the new discussion about her, because i don't want to waste my energy in the others person section (like above)..

Well... it is very controversial regarding her claim sales, because many reliable sources has been stated her to have sold 30 million albums and 70 million singles... Even VH1...claim her to have sold 32 million album and 65 million singles...!!!... but still can't accepted to this list..! with the reason that her certification sales only supported for 62 million sales..

Ok... please advised... i have found this source, from...Digital Spy...http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/music/news/a391730/pink-confirms-new-album-the-truth-about-love-release-date.html.... in that article, it was stated like this :

To date, Pink has sold over 30 million albums, over 1 million DVDs, and nearly 20 million iTunes tracks worldwide.

If we combined that sales... we have 50 million claim for Pink.... so... what do you think sir?.... thank you.. 182.2.78.121 (talk) 11:30, 25 September 2012 (UTC)

Not done Digital Spy is not the best source for this list. I personally see one problem with the statement of 20 million iTunes tracks. It leaves physical singles out including There You Go certified Gold by RIAA. Other editors don't seem to think Digital Spy is a good source either, see this. But overall the 51 million in Album/Singles/Videos sales is just about right for P!nk. Any other source claiming that much sales?--Harout72 (talk) 15:25, 25 September 2012 (UTC)

I'm give up.... i've been spend more than three hours searching the internet.... but mostly the source present the un-reliable figures like VH1 and others did... only Digital Spy who's present the 51m-records of pink.... it's done, no change for her to be included on this list...182.4.100.243 (talk) 01:31, 27 September 2012 (UTC)

Diana Ross, Where is She ????

Well, please remind me, if i'm wrong.... But, i don't see her name in this list, for me... this is tragic, because everyone know how so legendary she is, even she was declared as the greatest female singer on earth by Guinness World Records, until Madonna born and take that title from her..

I need advice and information about her certification sales...? please, i really need that information... because this is crucial.. is her certification sales is too low?..

Alright.... please read the article from The Daily Telegraph....http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/music/michael-jackson/5713323/Michael-Jackson-named-Diana-Ross-as-guardian-to-children.html... and Daily Mail...http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-1382334/Diana-Ross-looking-Supreme-Beverly-Hills-shopping-trip.html...

Both article, was stated the 100m-records sales of Ross... is this reliable?... is it true, that her certification sales not enough to support that claim sales.... please advised..?... thanks... 182.4.100.243 (talk) 02:14, 27 September 2012 (UTC)

Not done Diana Ross' available certified sales are only 9,780,000, which can support claims of up to 65 million.--Harout72 (talk) 15:47, 27 September 2012 (UTC)

Aretha Franklin

Please remind me... but, i dont see her name in this list... Excuse me, Franklin is highly regarded as the best female singer in earth history... many Award and critics poll has been laud her status as the Queen of Soul... even Rolling Stones listed her as The Greatest Female Artist of All Time... (Madonna seat at #2)... so, this is weird if her legend name not include on this list...

I have read the article from Call and Post....http://www.callandpost.com/index.php/entertainment/music/1329-thats-dr-aretha-franklin-to-you... that she has sold more than 75m-records...

Please advice, is her certification sales not enough to make her name in this list..?... thanks... 182.4.100.243 (talk) 09:40, 27 September 2012 (UTC)

Done She's now on the list as she's got enough certified sales.--Harout72 (talk) 00:43, 28 September 2012 (UTC)

First of all... thanks to include Franklin in the list, but today... accidentally i read the article from The National (Abu Dhabi)....http://www.thenational.ae/featured-content/channel-page/arts-culture/film/middle-article-list/the-instant-expert-aretha-franklin..

Yup, in that article... it was stated that Franklin have sold 100m-records.... I know, perhaps you're not comfortable with my argue but, please compare... with Country Sexy (Sorry..) Boobs Singer Dolly Parton....

Dolly Parton started her career in 1959 and her first recording started in 1965... her certification sales only 14.9 million, but her claim sales reach 100m-records..!

Aretha Franklin started her career in 1956 and her first recording started in 1961... her certification sales reach 24.3 million, she is better than Parton to claim sales of 100m-records..!

Again... let's face it.. i think this is more than a fact... thank you..182.10.129.34 (talk) 12:23, 28 September 2012 (UTC)

Let's not turn this list into a competition-list. See my comments at Santana (part2). We should leave Aretha Franklin at 75 million as that's a logical figure based on her available certified sales.--Harout72 (talk) 15:48, 28 September 2012 (UTC)

Dionne Warwick

OMG.. YES, OH YES... I like her, i do.. i really do... but to be honest, i just like one of her many songs... " the moment i wake up, before i put on my make up ".... oh god, this song is simple but funny deep...

And... need your consider...BBC News....http://news.bbc.co.uk/today/hi/today/newsid_9748000/9748311.stm... stated her to have sold 100m-records... please remind me, is her name not include on this list?... and is 100m-records reliable for her..? is her certification sales quite enough?...

Is that my questions too much?.... sorry about that... 182.4.100.243 (talk) 09:40, 27 September 2012 (UTC)

Not done Dionne Warwick has only 9,305,000 in certified sales which can support a claim of up to 62 million.--Harout72 (talk) 00:00, 28 September 2012 (UTC)

Status Quo

Same Condition like Ross, Franklin, and Warwick... i don't see their name in this list... i really don't know them, but based on their biography in Wikipedia... they are look COOL!!... Alright, to the point... which between this sources are reliable for their claim sales..:

1. Kyiv Post....https://www.kyivpost.com/content/lifestyle/status-quo-to-play-at-tavria-games-summer-festival-3371.html... claim their records sales stand at 110 million records..

2. The Shetland Times....http://www.shetlandtimes.co.uk/2012/06/07/veteran-rockers-status-quo-being-lined-up-for-isles-gig... claim their records sales stand at 118 million records..

Please, need your advice... which one the most reliable?... or Both NOT RELIABLE?... Thanks...182.4.100.243 (talk) 09:40, 27 September 2012 (UTC)

Not done Status Quo have a very low certified sales, just 9,075,000, that could work for 60 million claim only.--Harout72 (talk) 15:07, 27 September 2012 (UTC)

Def Leppard

Well, I think the thing that we look most in this list is fairness... that's why, i agree with you if some GREAT ARTISTS can not be included in this list, even several reliable sources stated them have sold many-many million records..

And for examples for fairness... I have see that one of the greatest bands in British history, Def Leppard...been stated to have sold 65m-records in this list.... i think this is not fair for them, especially because they have been started their music career since 1977 and their certification sales more than 40m... They DESERVE to claim more than that amount...

Please read this article from :

1. Lebanon Daily News....http://www.ldnews.com/ci_20556689/def-leppard-rock-hershey...

2. Daily News (Los Angeles)....http://www.dailynews.com/music/ci_20804782/afternoon-delight-rock-giants-def-leppard-play-free...

Both of that article... claim Def Leppard have been sold 100m-records.... need your consider... thanks...182.10.129.34 (talk) 06:15, 28 September 2012 (UTC)

The 100 million seems too inflated. Is there not a source claiming maximum of some 80 million. Let's face it, there is no way that Def Leppard have sold 100 million when their certified sales are only 40 million.--Harout72 (talk) 07:13, 28 September 2012 (UTC)

Yeah... but they started their music career since 1977, It was 35 years ago... I don't know exactly how many percentage %, but please remind me, based on the claim sales requirement in this list... Their 40m certification sales is strong enough to support the 100m-records claim... and please compare with the others... Dolly Parton certification sales even didn't reach 20m, but she claim to have sold 100m-records.... let's face it... i think... but, in the end... i just a reader... thanks...182.10.129.34 (talk) 12:06, 28 September 2012 (UTC)

Read my comments below at Santana (Part 2) section. By the way, we base the requirements on when artists first appeared on official album/singles chart, not when they started. As for Dolly Parton, if there is a lower claimed figure for her, using that would be more logical than the current 100 million which is clearly inflated.--Harout72 (talk) 15:09, 28 September 2012 (UTC)

Ok Mr. Harout... i'll go with you..182.15.211.147 (talk) 05:25, 29 September 2012 (UTC)

Rod Stewart

Yup... the old Don Juan, the handsome male singer who's probably have been sleep with all women he has ever meet.... I've seen his certification sales nearly reached 70m... i think is quite enough to claim more than 100m records..

Alright... Daily Mail....http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-1294083/Rod-Stewart-Penny-Lancaster-enjoy-French-family-vacation.html... stated him to have sold 130m-records.... please advice...thanks...182.10.129.34 (talk) 07:09, 28 September 2012 (UTC)

See my comments below at Santana (Part 2) section. If you want to continue providing sources, perhaps you can try and locate a source for Eric Clapton who deserves to be on the list.--Harout72 (talk) 15:12, 28 September 2012 (UTC)

Oh my... you don't need to ask me, because Eric Clapton is the first artist that's make me cry when i hear his tragic song.." Tears in Heaven"...

I don't know you want to hear this or not, but i spend many of my recent free time to finding the reliable source for him, but seriously is almost impossible..!

Most of the sources is not reliable... but i will not stop until i get the reliable source for him, because this man is in my all time favorite artist.. 182.15.211.147 (talk) 05:13, 29 September 2012 (UTC)

Santana Claim Sales (Part 2)

Once again… I’m sorry being bother you, but just to make the list more satisfy... i know, i was the one who asking to change Santana records sales claim from 80m to 90m... but.. I have found this sources..:

1. Deccan Herald....http://www.deccanherald.com/content/281667/carlos-santana-perform-bangalore-oct.html...

2. Malta Today....http://www.maltatoday.com.mt/en/magazinedetails/magazine/music/Carlos-Santana-enjoys-global-success-with-new-tour...

Yup... both of that article, stated that Santana sold 100m-records.... come on, based on the requirement sales claim, i think Santana also deserve to join the 100m-club... thanks...182.10.129.34 (talk) 14:38, 28 September 2012 (UTC)

We should avoid using claimed figures that widen the gap between the certified sales and claims, regardless of whether or not those inflated figures meet the requirements. The required percentages are designed to allow or not allow artists on the list. We should only update the sales figures of those artists whose certified sales catch up with their claimed figures. Having said that, Taylor Swift, Alan Jackson, The Black Eyed Peas, Red Hot Chili Peppers truly deserved an update.--Harout72 (talk) 15:03, 28 September 2012 (UTC)

So, this is mean that i do not have to waste my time by finding any updated reliable sources for those artist in the list..except Taylor Swift, Alan Jackson, The Black Eyed Peas, Red Hot Chili Peppers..?....

Please advice, because i really like this list and actually... i have read several reliable source from newspaper about the claim sales from several artist in the list which is more than the recent claim figure... need your opinion?... thanks..182.15.211.147 (talk) 05:20, 29 September 2012 (UTC)

Like I said, if you want to continue finding sources, they would have to be for those artists whose certified sales have already caught up with their claimed figures, including Garth Brooks, Eagles and Rihanna. Also, David Bowie's sales figure (140 million) is inflated, if you wish, you can help and locate a source for David Bowie that claims lower sales than his inflated 140 million.--Harout72 (talk) 17:11, 29 September 2012 (UTC)

Kelly Clarkson

Alright.... I dont want to talk too much about her... please advice, how many certification she has? and is it fit with this statement from DallasNews....

http://www.dallasnews.com/entertainment/television/headlines/20120229-the-most-memorable-american-idol-finalists-from-texas.ece

Clarkson has sold over 24 million albums and 39 million singles worldwide.... that's 63 million claim...

Need your help.. thanks..182.5.219.228 (talk) 12:01, 1 October 2012 (UTC)

Kelly Clarkson's claimed figures should be supported by 54% certified sales as she's begun charting in 2002. So, for 63 million, her certified sales should be 34 million. Her available certified sales are only 19.5 million, which can support claimed figures of up to 36 million. I don't think she'll get on this list for sometime.--Harout72 (talk) 15:40, 1 October 2012 (UTC)

Ayumi Hamasaki vs. Utada Hikaru

Recently it came to my attention that the figures for Utada Hikaru's certifications and Ayumi Hamasaki's certifications come from different sources. While Utada's sales are based on the figures from Oricon (38.7 million). I however noticed that Hamasaki's figures are based on RIAAJ (34.2 million). When I tried to change Hamasaki's sales also to her Oricon sales (50.02 million) this was immediatly changed back because "Oricon was not a credible source" and that "only RIAAJ is a believable certification source in Japan" (something I strongly dissagree with, I mean, Oricon is precise when it comes copies sold, but that's a discussion for another day). So my question is, which source is the one we should be believe, Oricon or RIAAJ, and please, make all artists fall under the same source, not vary from artist to artist. — Preceding unsigned comment added by DickensDaughter (talkcontribs) 16:54, 1 October 2012 (UTC)

Copies sold are not immediately certified by RIAJ. The record companies must submit a fee in order to get the units sold certified, it's not automatic. Oricon is a credible source if you use it for sales figures. We are after certified sales here, at this list, not actual sales units. They are two different things. As for Utada Hikaru, her units are supported by RIAJ as well.--Harout72 (talk) 17:09, 1 October 2012 (UTC)

Can you show me the source for Hamasaki as well? Because I've been calculating her RIAJ certifications, and I add up to 47,6 million records, over 13 million more than what is listed on the best-selling list. — Preceding unsigned comment added by DickensDaughter (talkcontribs) 18:26, 1 October 2012 (UTC)

Sure, here it is.--Harout72 (talk) 18:47, 1 October 2012 (UTC)

This list is incredibly incomplete! Are you sure this list has been taken from the RIAJ site, because when I look for sales figures I get a completely different number! the Album LOVEppears for example is certified for 2 million, Duty and I Am.. for 3 million. I will try and find a more complete list. — Preceding unsigned comment added by DickensDaughter (talkcontribs) 18:52, 1 October 2012 (UTC)

RIAJ has the album Love Appears posted on Million-Seller-Database for 1 million units. Where are you getting the 2x Million for Love Appears and the 3x Million for Duty and I Am? If this list is where you're getting your figures from, it's not an RIAJ page, we cannot use that. We strictly rely on the certifications coming from the sites of the certifying bodies.--Harout72 (talk) 19:05, 1 October 2012 (UTC)

The Million-Seller-Database for 1 million units list also lists Hikaru Utada's "First Love" album as having sold 1 million copies, while on the list of her certifications that you gave me earlier it stated that it sold 8 million copies. It's difficult when so many credible sources are rejected here, I can give you the exact number of copies sold for every Ayumi Hamasaki release, but that is all stated by Oricon or her record company AVEX. The site that is being used right now is extremely unclear, like I said, I will try to find a source, supported by RIAJ, that states Hamasaki's true sales. DickensDaughter (talk) 22:00, 1 October 2012 (UTC)

The document that I provided indicates clearly where on RIAJ site to find those exact certifications. Note that each album's certification-figure shows right next to it, where on RIAJ's site it can be found. The 8 million units for Utada Hikaru's First Love, happens to be posted on another RIAJ page which was brought to my attention by someone else. That, by the way, is also indicated on the list of certifications I provided. Similarly, Hamasaki might have her albums posted on other RIAJ pages which might have higher figures for her albums than those posted on Million-Seller-Database. If you come across them, bring it to my attention. As I explained to you above, we are after certified sales (which come from certifying bodies), and Oricon posts actual sales figures.--Harout72 (talk) 22:39, 1 October 2012 (UTC)

Simon & Garfunkel

Alright.... their name not include in this list... please read this source from UNCUT..

http://www.uncut.co.uk/paul-simon/simon-garfunkel-the-collection-review

they have claim 50m-ALBUM... this is reliable or not?... could be use like N'sync case?... thank you..182.5.219.228 (talk) 12:03, 2 October 2012 (UTC)

No, it's not reliable for this list.--Harout72 (talk) 15:15, 2 October 2012 (UTC)

Sales

Looking at Katy Perry's blockbuster sales, shouldnt she be on this list? I mean even wikipedia confirms that she has sold over 48 million singles alone, not counting the albums.

Also, you may want to check your certifications and sources for Shania Twain. 75 million is a bit lower than what it should if Come On Over sold 40 million, Up sold 10 million, The Woman in Me sold 20 million thats 70 million alone not counting her first album, misc. albums like compilations or singles.

Lastly, I may be wrong her but is it really fair to list artists who have sold more singles than albums? I mean, now that we live in an age where singles sell well more than albums with the convenience of digital downloads, a person could buy 10 songs separately off of an 11 track album and they could be considered 10 separate sales meanwhile a person could buy that whole album and it be classified as one sale. Or a person could sell 60 million albums with 10 albums, while another could sell 60 million singles with 2 albums and they have the same rank on this list. Maybe someone could explain to me how that works if i dont completely understand but I dont think thats fair to some artists. (SuperCell3000 (talk) 01:59, 3 October 2012 (UTC))

Katy Perry

Perry has begun charting in 2008; therefore, her claimed figures need to be supported by 66% certified sales per the requirements of this list. Her available certified sales, 44.9 million, can support sales figures of up to 68 million (singles, albums combined).

Shania Twain

Shania Twain's certified sales are correct. I don't know where your figures are coming from as you don't have a single source provided, but they seem quite inflated. For example, the album Come on Over:
  • has been certified 20x Platinum in the U.S. for 20 million units
  • has been certified 7x Platinum in the entire Europe for 7 million units
  • has been certified 2x Diamond in Canada for 2 million units
  • has been certified 15x Platinum in Australia for 1,050,000 units
  • has been certified Gold in Mexico for 75,000 units
  • has been certified Gold in Brazil for 100,000 units
That is a total of 30.2 million. The rest of the smallest music markets could not have generated the remaining 9+ million units.

Singles

Music Industry associations do consider digital tracks part of artists total sales, so do the certifying bodies. Therefore, yes it is proper for this list to have those counted. Next time open up separate discussion-threads for your questions please. Don't ask three different questions in the same thread.--Harout72 (talk) 03:30, 3 October 2012 (UTC)
If Katy has over 60 million supported then shouldnt she be included on the list? I dont know exactly what you were answering for Shania Twain, when i said check your certifications i meant check to see if her sales add up to more than just 75 million. I dont know what you were answering. And lastly i will keep a mental note of creating separate threads (SuperCell3000 (talk) 22:35, 3 October 2012 (UTC))

Katy Perry

Do you have a reliable source that claims 68 million in sales?

Shania Twain

My explanation is quite thorough, I'm not sure which part of it you failed to understand. Her certifications ARE correct, meaning 71 million is all there is in certified units. The 40 million for Come on Over is inflated by Twain's record company, therefore, it confuses you and makes you think that her certified units for Come on Over should be that much as well, which cannot becuase she simply hasn't sold 40 million of that album. --Harout72 (talk) 22:45, 3 October 2012 (UTC)

Well if thats the case then shouldnt artists such as Michael Jackson's sales be lower? Many editors have confirmed that his sales for albums such as Thriller and Bad did not sell nearly the number his record company says they did. (72.203.147.78 (talk) 22:10, 4 October 2012 (UTC))

Donna Summer

Well, Mr. Harout... please remind me but I don't see Donna Summer in this list.... I just know a little bit about her, I just remember that before Madonna and Whitney Houston rules the music world... Summer is the leading female singer on earth (beating Diana Ross and Aretha Franklin)...

please advice... this source is reliable or not?... she is claim by ABC Australia to have sold 130 million records..

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2012-05-18/disco-queen-donna-summer-dies/4018474

Thanks..182.6.41.83 (talk) 02:34, 3 October 2012 (UTC)

130 million? That is a seriously inflated figure. Summer's available certified sales are only 30.5 million. Isn't there anything around 100 million or even below that mark?--Harout72 (talk) 02:49, 3 October 2012 (UTC)

Mr. Harout, I do believe that you can show a great fairness in this list, i still remember that you ask me to not making this list became a competition... But seriously, I think this is really not fair..! you don't accept Donna Summer claim sales of 130m-records, saying that is clearly inflated figure... But you still let another artist include in this list which is has a worse inflation figure than Summer's.... such as Dolly Parton (14.9m to 100m-records) and David Bowie (23m to 140m-records)... why you don't erase them from this list, if you think their sales figure is also inflated...?...

To be honest... i've been trying to find any lower sales figure for Donna Summer, but seriously those sources has same argued... that Summer has sold more than 130m-records.... such as Forbes, Tribune, Boston Globe, Daily Herald....including :

1.Euronews... http://www.euronews.com/2012/05/17/tributes-for-more-than-queen-of-disco-donna-summer/

2.Daily Mirror...http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/world-news/donna-summer-disco-star-believed-837989

Need your consider Mr. Harout, Donna Summer is deserve to be on this list....bu actually, I have found one source from Los Angeles Times which said about 100m-records of Summer's...http://projects.latimes.com/hollywood/star-walk/donna-summer/#c23551.... But, it was not stated clearly in the news, so i don't think this it is a reliable source.... what do you think sir?.... please advice.... thanks...182.15.41.23 (talk) 02:39, 4 October 2012 (UTC)

If you could drop the [Mr.] part and call me just Harout, I'd appreciate it:) OK let's be clear on something, I only asked above if there is anything lower that the 130 million, I didn't say the 130 million doesn't meet the requirements. And since there doesn't seem to be anything lower than 130 million, I will add her to the list using one of the sources you provided. As for Dolly Parton, she's only away from meeting the required certified units by 100,000 units. But if the missing 100,000 units do bother some editors/readers, then we should remove her from the list. David Bowie's 22.4 million in certified units, unfortunately, are enough to meet the requirements. --Harout72 (talk) 02:59, 4 October 2012 (UTC)
Done Donna Summer's on the list, and Dolly Parton removed.--Harout72 (talk) 03:23, 4 October 2012 (UTC)

The Monkees and Mary J. Blige

Well, after.... Houston, Summer, Santana, R.E.M, NKOTB, Black Eyed Peas, Kenny G, Franklin, Swift, RHCP, Keys, Jackson, McEntire, Petty & The Heartbreakers, N’sync, and TLC... claim sales being updated and include on this list... Now, i want to try updating the claim sales of The Monkees and Mary J. Blige... I'm not sure the new claims sales of them is reliable in this list, so that i decided not to separate their names in different section.

The Monkees and Mary J. Blige has been claimed to have sold 50m-records in this list, i have seen that The Monkees stated their music career in 1966 with 24m-certification, while Mary J. Blige started her music career in 1990s with 26m-certification... I'm pretty sure their claim sales is more than that...

So that, please advice... this is reliable for them or not?... I've found the 65 million records claim for both of The Monkees and Mary J. Blige...:

1. The Monkees....The Daily Telegraph...http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/1557530/Monkees-shout-Hey-hey-were-the-outcasts.html... stated 65m-records...

2. Mary J. Blige....Daily Mail...http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-1314970/Mary-J-Blige-lightens--Singer-shows-new-longer-blonder-locks.html... stated the 50 million albums and 15 million singles... that's 65 million...

Need your consider... I think they deserve to join 65m-club.. thanks..182.15.41.23 (talk) 08:17, 4 October 2012 (UTC)

Not done You were already explained in another thread that we will be updating the claimed figures of those artists whose certified sales are extremely close to their current claimed figures. Neither The Monkees nor Mary J. Blige have their certified sales caught up with their current claimed figures. Therefore, they should be left where they are.--Harout72 (talk) 15:10, 4 October 2012 (UTC)

But... their new claims meet the requirements, is it right??..

Well, i understand... but since the distant between 50m-65m is not too far, so then i trying to update their claim figure... like i said in my explanation above, i'm not sure you will accept my opinion... so that, i decided not to separate their names in different section..182.4.98.67 (talk) 01:24, 5 October 2012 (UTC)

Marilyn Manson

I have only one word for him and his band... Devil.!.. seriously, they looked so scary....but, they quite famous worldwide, especially for those who proclaimed themselves as antichrist.... please advise, how many certification of Marilyn Manson and his band..?... because, accidentally i have read a Republic of Chine English-language Newspaper Taipei Times...http://www.taipeitimes.com/News/feat/archives/2012/03/09/2003527324... which is claimed them have sold 50m-records...

Need your consider... do they deserve to be included on this list?... thanks..182.15.41.23 (talk) 09:03, 4 October 2012 (UTC)

Not done Manson's claimed figures need to be supported by 41% certified sales as begun charting in 1994. For 50 million, Manson would need 20.5 million in certified units. I see very low certified sales from the U.S. (4.7 million units), the UK (225,000 units), Canada (465,000 units), Germany (225,000 units). Overall, it's not even going to be 10 million. --Harout72 (talk) 15:27, 4 October 2012 (UTC)

Patti LaBelle

Well, after I failed to updating the claim figures of… Pink, Bolton, Def Leppard, Stewart, The Monkees, and Blige…(not including Martin, Vernandez, Humperdick, Iron Maiden, Status Quo, Manson, Warwick, and Ross…. Which is I’m personally accept and DON’T CARE..!)...

Please remind me... but, i don't see Patti LaBelle in this list... yeah, the original Lady Marmalade... I have found two sources, from..:

The Guardian...http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/2011/jun/06/patti-labelle-sued-airport-attack

The Post and Courier...http://www.postandcourier.com/article/20100930/ARCHIVES/309309849

Both of that prestigious news-paper, claim that the Lady Marmalade have sold 50m-records... please advise, how many certification she has, is she reliable to enter this list...?... thanks..182.4.98.67 (talk) 02:51, 5 October 2012 (UTC)

Not done I just see 4.5 million from U.S. and 150,000 units from Canada. Still misses some 3 million to get her 50 million covered by 15% certified sales.--Harout72 (talk) 03:50, 5 October 2012 (UTC)

Led Zeppelin

Led Zeppelin's article presents (after much debate and hard-reached consensus) two (uncertain) figures of record sales with reliable sources: 200 and 300 million. The article also links this article of best-selling artists in its presentation, so I thought they needed to coincide a bit more, since Led Zeppelin are only present in the 300 million section here. So, do you wanna include Led Zeppelin in both the 200 and 300 million sections or move them down to 200? --Revan (talk) 17:25, 5 October 2012 (UTC)

We already have the 200 million claimed figure included. We don't list the same artist in more than one section. Also, we operate based on available certified sales. And the 300 million is well supported by Led Zeppelin's available certified sales.--Harout72 (talk) 18:00, 5 October 2012 (UTC)

Eminem

the wiki article states that eminem has 86 million sales, but the bbc article which is referenced there states that his only album sales exceed 86 million, so the singles when added should increase the total sales further. moreover, the wiki artice of his discography - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eminem_discography states his singles sales to be over 42 million in the US alone. so the worldwide sales of his albums + singles should be over 128 million which should change his category in the list. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 123.237.56.204 (talk) 05:30, 5 October 2012 (UTC)

Well hi... i'm sorry for giving a comment to your section above... but this is just a sugesstion from me as a reader... if you have any opinion or edit request regarding those artist in the list which is need to be included or updating, please provide a reliable source as indication to the editor, not just only a personnal opinion... it would be help the editor in this list to understand what we want and make any additional or change to the list based from our opinion... and not waste this talk page with any empty talked... 182.12.4.159 (talk) 05:15, 6 October 2012 (UTC)

The Silver Bullet Band

Well, i have seen that Bob Seger has been included on this list with 50m-records claim.. but I have read an article from BBC News...http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-17130540... in that Article, it was stated like this:

As well as his songwriting credits, songwriter Seger has also achieved success with his Silver Bullet Band, who have sold more than 51 million records worldwide.

Please advise, what does it means?... Bob Seger and Silver Bullet Band is a same group in the name of Bob Seger?.. or Bob Seger and Silver Bullet is a different kind of musicians... because if is different, so that Silver Bullet could be enter the list with 51m-records claim...

need your opinion... thanks...182.12.4.159 (talk) 06:02, 6 October 2012 (UTC)

Yes, the 44.1 million in certified units on the list, are the combined units for both Bob Seger and The Silver Bullet Band.--Harout72 (talk) 16:21, 6 October 2012 (UTC)

Alecia Beth Moore (Part 2)

After a very controversial claim sales figure of Pink, which is been published by many reliable sources (such as VH1, Billboard)... but CAN NOT accepted to this list because the certification sales... Please advice..:

The source from The Sun (United Kingdom)...http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/showbiz/bizarre/4429881/Pink-Its-funny-that-Harry-Styles-loved-a-cougar-aged-32-I-just-about-qualify.html.... is reliable or not?... because, in that article it was stated like this..:

She has gone on to sell more than 40million albums, more than a million DVDs and has had close to 20million iTunes downloads

Because, if that source reliable enough... now we have 60 million claim for Alecia.... thanks...39.210.124.228 (talk) 07:18, 6 October 2012 (UTC)

Done P!nk's now on the list, although the source refers to Digital downloads only, leaving her physical singles out. But I think we can put up with that.--Harout72 (talk) 16:46, 6 October 2012 (UTC)

Including "IFPI Platinum Europe Awards"

Hi Harout,

why haven't you included "IFPI Platinum Europe Awards" in this list. I know that they include national certifications, but sometimes they are higher than all national certifications combined. For example: an artist gets 9x Gold in Germany for 900,000 units, he sells 50,000 in the UK and 5,000 in ten other countries. After that, he can get an "IFPI Platinum Europe Award" for 1,000,000 units sold. That's a difference of 100,000 units, which would be missing in this list. --Ich901 (talk) 10:19, 6 October 2012 (UTC)

Unfortunately, including the IFPI Europe awards for albums would be double counting. Because once you have included the certified units for X album coming from associations such as BVMI, BPI, SNEP, Ultratop, IFPI Sweden etc., you can't list the IFPI Europe awards for the same X album. And you can't just depend on IFPI Europe Platinums, because they are only for albums, and date back to 1996 only. Whereas, BVMI, BPI alone date back to 1975 and 1973 respectively. I personally refer to IFPI Europe awards for research purposes only.--Harout72 (talk) 16:17, 6 October 2012 (UTC)
I don't talk about double counting, just count the higher figure between European and national awards combined. In some cases the European figures would be higher than all the national ones combined. --Ich901 (talk) 16:46, 6 October 2012 (UTC)
If we rely on IFPI Europe's certifications for some albums and for others we rely on certifications of BPI, BVMI etc., that will be inconsistent and too confusing for those who wish to verify through sources provided.--Harout72 (talk) 16:51, 6 October 2012 (UTC)
Sry, you are totally right, now I remember why I didn't propose this when it came in my mind earlier. --Ich901 (talk) 16:58, 6 October 2012 (UTC)

The Pussycat Dolls

Well... i have seen Spice Girls, TLC, and Destiny's Child... is the only girl groups listed in this list... They are been legendary and lauded as the three Greatest selling girl groups in world history....

But wait a minute!... accidentally, i read an article from The Daily Telegraph...http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/tvandradio/x-factor/9334521/Nicole-Scherzinger-to-be-X-Factor-judge.html....

That article stated that The Pussycat Dolls selling more than 15 million albums and 37 million singles.. that's 52 million claim for them... WOW... That claim is second only to the great Spice Girls and better than TLC/Destiny's Child (which both of them claim 50m-records)...

Please advice... how many certification of The Pussycat Dolls?... is that claimed reliable for them?.... if yes well, welcome to the list... thanks..182.11.230.31 (talk) 04:09, 7 October 2012 (UTC)

Not done The Pussycat Dolls have begun charting in 2005; therefore, their claimed figures need to be supported by 60% certified sales per this list's requirements. For 52 million claim, they need 31.2 million in certified units. I see very low certified sales for them: 3.2 from USA, 1.2 from the UK, 450,000 from Germany, 290,000 from Canada. Overall it's not even 10 million.--Harout72 (talk) 08:38, 7 October 2012 (UTC)

Toni Braxton

Well...i'm so sad and nearly broke in tears for her... her life seem's so tragic... she suffers a Lupus Syndrome along with her brother... and her son suffering from Autism... and now, she BROKE... mmmm.....i don't know what to say..

Her name not include in this list... please advice, how many certification she has?... is it reliable enough? and fit with the 60m-records claimed from The Huffington Post...http://www.huffingtonpost.com/dustin-fitzharris/toni-braxton-says-i-heart-you_b_1443866.html...

Please advise... thanks..182.11.230.31 (talk) 04:09, 7 October 2012 (UTC)

Huffington Post is really not a good source. But Braxton does have enough certified units for someone who's begun charting in 1992.--Harout72 (talk) 08:19, 7 October 2012 (UTC)

Certifications of Norway

I found this list of record certifications from Norway http://www.ifpi.no/sok/lst_trofeer_sok.asp?type=artist shouldn't this be incorporated in the list? --Ich901 (talk) 16:28, 7 October 2012 (UTC)

The problem is that we need to know when IFPI Norway has reduced their certification-levels. They seem to have lowered their levels from 25,000/50,000 to 20,000/40,000 sometime before 2005 (see page 23). And then lowered the levels of albums again between 2005 and 2007, but raised the levels of singles. If we could find out when these changes have occurred, then sure, we can implement them. I have contacted them regarding their levels number of times, all in vein, no reply. By the way, IFPI Norway has a searchable database, but it doesn't bring up the 2011 certifications.--Harout72 (talk) 16:48, 7 October 2012 (UTC)
What about always taking the minimum sales figures for all albums and singles? Btw what about http://www.ifpi.dk/?q=certificeringer in combination with this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IFPI_Denmark for Denmark? --Ich901 (talk) 17:01, 7 October 2012 (UTC)
You can't use 15,000/30,000 for albums released before when first levels changed. That's incorrect and unsupported. We have the same problem with Denmark. When were the levels of 25,000/50,000 lowered first? No clear indication about that at IFPI Denmark.--Harout72 (talk) 17:20, 7 October 2012 (UTC)
There is no problem about Denmark because the online database begins with "10/01-2011". The criteria haven't changed after that. --Ich901 (talk) 17:32, 7 October 2012 (UTC)

What about all those posted on here? They are from 2001 onwards. Once you do the recent certifications, you also need to do the earlier ones.--Harout72 (talk) 17:50, 7 October 2012 (UTC)

That's not logical because we also cover certifications from other countries partially, for example Spain. So you could easily include Norway and Denmark with the least sales figures for all albums and singles as a minimum, that is not wrong when you note it in the article as minimum figures. At least you could use the official database from ifpi.dk because the sales figures are known. Btw, have you asked ifpi.dk about when the changes of criteria happenend? --Ich901 (talk) 18:16, 7 October 2012 (UTC)
Spain's certifications are posted on archived weekly charts dating back to 2004, all of which are covered with correct certification-levels. The same should be done with Denmark. Yes, I have asked IFPI Denmark for changes, also no reply.--Harout72 (talk) 18:33, 7 October 2012 (UTC)
The database of ifpi.dk is also covered with correct certification-levels. It's the same situation like with spain, bot are 100% correct but still not complete. Aside from that it wouldn't change much on the list, but for example 21 by Adele was certified 5 times Platinum, which translates into 100,000 units and is enough to include it in the list. --Ich901 (talk) 18:41, 7 October 2012 (UTC)

Had IFPI Denmark posted their earlier levels on their site, you wouldn't have said Adele's 21 has gone 5x Platinum for 100,000. That album was released in early 2011, when Denmark's levels for albums were Gold=15,000, Platinum=30,000 translating into 150,000. Right there the lack of that information made you make a mistake of 50,000 units. You see how sensitive knowing the correct levels is? I will try to contact IFPI Denmark again for their earlier levels, but until then we should not include incorrect and incomplete data. These things take patience.--Harout72 (talk) 18:56, 7 October 2012 (UTC)

You are right. I quess you have taken in account every possible source of information for this list. --Ich901 (talk) 19:03, 7 October 2012 (UTC)

This page needs a retitle

Beatles, 1 billion in sales claimed, one reference never mentions the beatles, and the other only references another op ed by a Reuters reporter that is without a reference. Effectively, the "claim" of a billion rests on a reuter reporter's opinion and was never claimed by the artist(s), though that is the declaration at the top of the page. When the page fails to be a credible source so early in the list, perhaps a retitle of "A List of Sales by Artist Generated by the Present Editors of the Page Without Regard to Valid Sources" would be more appropriate. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Galentravels (talkcontribs) 07:07, 10 October 2012 (UTC)

Apparently a user has created a page to give the random sales figures in the Italian press undue credibility (kind of a WP:COATRACK that way). I would like some public opinion on how to deal with that as that page seems to undermine the principles of this page. --Jaan Pärn (talk) 07:24, 10 October 2012 (UTC)

Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta

Well... thank you for included Pink to the list, after a very controversial claim figures, finally i'm successful to find the most suitable claim figures for her...YEAH!!...

Okay... to be honest, i'm not a fan of the mother's monsters but i'm just still not comfortable seeingGermanotta claim sales stuck at 64 million, especially the source have been two years ago...MTV News...claimed her to have sold 13 million albums and 51 million singles, excuse me!.. that's two years ago... I believe she has sold more than that..

The source from BBC News...which claimed 87 million records (23m-singles and 64m-albums) is NOT ACCEPTABLE to this list, with the reason that her certification sales is not enough to support it..

Alright.... According to this very excellent list, she has 48.3 million in certification.. please advise, i have two opinion based from two sources which is claimed a different sales to Germanotta... so please, ehemm...Harout.. what do you think?... which is the MOST reliable..:

1. Business Insider...http://www.businessinsider.com/lady-gaga-announces-new-album-title-by-tattooing-it-on-her-body-2012-8.... stated:

Gaga's 2008 debut album "The Fame" and follow up album "The Fame Monster," have sold 15 million albums worldwide each, according to concert promoter LiveNation, while her hit singles have combined sales of over 65 million worldwide... we have 80 million claim for her..

2. Cybercast News Service...http://cnsnews.com/news/article/lady-gaga-what-pope-thinks-being-gay-does-not-matter-world....

claimed her to have sold 15 million albums and 51 million singles... we have 66 million claimed for her... mmm, it is just a little close from her old claimed sales..

Need your consider, which is reliable?... or both not?.... Thanks..182.11.230.31 (talk) 04:09, 7 October 2012 (UTC)

Lady Gaga can be updated with a source that claims maximum of 73 million records. But let's make sure figures come from prestigious news services, such as The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, The Washington Times, BBC etc.--Harout72 (talk) 08:27, 7 October 2012 (UTC)

The source from prestigious sources not guarantee that we could get a good source and satisfaction, let's face it how many times we can't updated a new claim sales for those artist even the sources come from a very prestigious sources? (like Telegraph, BBC, Dailymail).182.7.238.99 (talk) 06:46, 13 October 2012 (UTC)

katy perry

This source is reliable or not?. http://www.themercury.com.au/article/2012/07/06/343231_lifestyle.html. 85m claim for her. thanks182.7.238.99 (talk) 06:53, 13 October 2012 (UTC)

Yes it's reliable, but Perry has begun charting in 2008; therefore, her claimed figures need to be supported by 66% certified sales per the requirements of this list. Whereas her available certified sales, 45 million, can support sales figures of up to 68 million (singles, albums combined).--Harout72 (talk) 17:06, 13 October 2012 (UTC)

P!nk / Alecia Beth Moore

As of April 2012, P!nk had sold 40 Million Albums and 70 Million singles.

A recent press release from RCA: Since her debut in 2000, P!nk (Alecia Moore) has released 7 albums (Can’t Take Me Home, M!ssundaztood, Try This, I’m Not Dead, Funhouse, Greatest Hits So Far!!!, The Truth About Love), sold over 40 million albums, 65 million singles (nearly 20 million digital tracks), over 1 million DVDs worldwide and has had 12 singles in the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart (3 at #1)

P!nk doesn't have enough certified sales to be listed with anything higher than some 62 million (albums, singles, Videos combined). Per the requirements of this list, artists begun charting in 2000 are required to have their claimed figures supported by 50% certified sales. The figures claimed by RCA are overblown figures for promotional purposes. Those are not actual figures.--Harout72 (talk) 18:21, 14 October 2012 (UTC)

Simply Red

How many certification they have? is it available to claim 50m records by the australian sources.thanks 182.5.164.139 (talk) 11:00, 15 October 2012 (UTC)

It's Weird

This list is based on what? Album sales? Records (albums + singles) sales? Everything is wrong here! Some artists have been included only considering album sales (Britney,Shania Twain for example). Others considering both (albums and singles) like Adele,Rihanna,Gaga,Beyoncè. It's not fair!!!!!!!!! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 93.46.242.184 (talk) 20:39, 15 October 2012 (UTC)

Sorry, this is a suggest. take it or leave it, do not waste your time reading this list if it not fit for you 182.5.164.139 (talk) 05:36, 16 October 2012 (UTC)

Paula Abdul

how about her? how many certification she has? VH1 (http://www.vh1.com/celebrity/page/2022/) and The Wrap (http://www.thewrap.com/tv/article/its-done-paula-abdul-joins-x-factor-27179?page=0,1) said her have sell 50m records. thanks 182.5.164.139 (talk) 05:40, 16 October 2012 (UTC)

VH1 Celebrity division is not something we can rely on. In any case, I don't see where on that VH1 celebrity page it says that Abdul has sold 50 million records. The biography section of VH1 for Abdul mentions nothing about the 50 million records. The other source of yours is not acceptable.--Harout72 (talk) 06:09, 16 October 2012 (UTC)

How we decided what " kind " of VH1 that reliable for this list? how about VH1 save the music version (http://www.vh1savethemusic.com/node/5011) is it the kind of reliable VH1 of this list? and how about Yahoo!Voices (http://voices.yahoo.com/paula-abdul-has-got-gig-4153987.html?cat=33) is it acceptable to this list? thanks. 182.5.164.139 (talk) 11:06, 16 October 2012 (UTC)

Yahoo!'s not acceptable either.--Harout72 (talk) 15:24, 16 October 2012 (UTC)

If the sources from Yahoo!, VH1, and the Wrap is not reliable for Abdul 50m records claim, how about the source from Tampa Bay Times (http://www.tampabay.com/blogs/media/content/see-pix-paula-abduls-first-day-judge-simon-cowells-x-factor) with the same claim for Abdul. Thanks 182.5.164.139 (talk) 06:07, 17 October 2012 (UTC)

Not done Abdul has begun charting in 1988, therefore, her claimed figures need to be supported by 37.3% certified sales. That is 18.6 million certified units required for 50 million claim. Abdul's available certified sales are only 16.7 million.--Harout72 (talk) 02:04, 18 October 2012 (UTC)

Norah Jones

How many her certification sales exactly? is it fit enough to make her being on this list? the article of Korean Newspaper (http://english.chosun.com/site/data/html_dir/2012/10/12/2012101201118.html) and Indian Newspaper (http://www.hindu.com/2008/02/29/stories/2008022958650400.htm) said her albums have sold 50 million copies. This list rules require the source to cited records unless album, but if the case same like N'SYNC that her albums nearly reach 90% in certification then her name should be on this list. thanks 182.5.164.139 (talk) 11:52, 16 October 2012 (UTC)

Norah Jones has begun charting in 2002, which requires her claimed figures to be supported by 54% certified sales. I see The Chosun Ilbo speaks of album sales only, whereas Jones has some videos and singles certified also. In this case, Jones' certified albums sales alone should cover the 50 million claim by 54% (or 27 million). I'll check her available certified sales, and if she meets the requirements, then we'll put her up on the list.--Harout72 (talk) 15:22, 16 October 2012 (UTC)

Thanks, hopefully you will inform whether Jones certification fit enough for this list or not 182.5.164.139 (talk) 01:40, 17 October 2012 (UTC)

Done Jones is now on the list. Her certified album sales alone are 29 million, and her overall available certified sales including albums, singles and videos are 29.6 million.--Harout72 (talk) 05:36, 17 October 2012 (UTC)

Eddy Arnold

I've seen his name not in the list yet, is 85m records claim from Independent (http://www.independent.co.uk/news/obituaries/eddy-arnold-country-music-superstar-824289.html) is reliable for him? thanks 182.5.164.139 (talk) 06:07, 17 October 2012 (UTC)

Kool & The Gang

How many certification they have? and is this source (http://blogs.montrealgazette.com/2012/03/11/kool-on-the-triumphant-return-of-1980s-party-band-kool-the-gang-opening-for-van-valen/?fb_xd_fragment#xd_sig=f3b96342392de94&xd_action=proxy_ready&data&xd_rel=parent.parent&relation=parent.parent&xd_origin=http%3A%2F%2Fstatic.ak.facebook.com) reliable for their 70m records claim? thanks. 182.5.164.139 (talk) 01:43, 17 October 2012 (UTC)

I can't open that source neither with Internet Explorer nor with FireFox.--Harout72 (talk) 05:37, 17 October 2012 (UTC)

If that source could not open, how about the source from NJ.com (http://www.nj.com/entertainment/music/index.ssf/2012/03/kool_and_the_gang_unexpected_p.html) and Houstonpress.com (http://blogs.houstonpress.com/rocks/2012/06/kool_and_the_gang_play_houston.php) with the same claim, is it reliable enough? thanks 182.5.164.139 (talk) 06:07, 17 October 2012 (UTC)

Their available certified sales seem to be enough to suggest they've sold 50 million maximum. Is there a source claiming 50 million records?--Harout72 (talk) 15:33, 18 October 2012 (UTC)

Avril Lavigne

How about her? she's still young in her career but Canadian Newspaper (http://www.thesudburystar.com/2011/07/19/local-news-briefs) stated her sold 30m albums and nearly 20m tracks that 50m claim for her, is it reliable for her entering this list? thanks 182.1.140.43 (talk) 03:41, 18 October 2012 (UTC)

Yes, that's reliable but Lavigne needs her claimed figures supported by 54% certified sales. In other words, the 50 million needs to be backed by 27 million certified units. She seems to have some 22-23 million roughly. Not enough.--Harout72 (talk) 05:07, 18 October 2012 (UTC)

Toni Braxton

I decided to deleted the previous post because, it would be more good to started a new discussion. I felt that toni deserved to enter this list and is this source from Arizona Daily Star (http://azstarnet.com/oct-toni-braxton/image_1f01213c-04d1-5041-9007-6aecf5fd04a1.html) reliable enough for 60m records claim of her? thanks 182.1.140.43 (talk) 05:25, 18 October 2012 (UTC)

 Done Braxton's now on the list.--Harout72 (talk) 15:32, 18 October 2012 (UTC)

Linda Ronstadt

Same like toni, it would be better to started the new discussion about her especially The New York Times (http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9400E3D8143EF933A05754C0A9679D8B63) stated her records sales at 100 million. More than the 50m claimed like the previous discussion, let's see is the very prestigious source could give us a satisfying and answer? thanks 182.1.140.43 (talk) 05:48, 18 October 2012 (UTC)

100 million is too inflated. Ronstadt doesn't have enough certified sales to suggest that she's sold 100 million records throughout her career. Find a reliable source that claims some 50 million records.--Harout72 (talk) 06:31, 18 October 2012 (UTC)

Glen Campbell

How many certification he has? The Daily Telegraph (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/music/3561856/Glen-Campbell-tells-it-like-it-is.html) and The Las Vegas Sun (http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2012/may/30/glen-campbells-farewell-tour-rides-through-vegas/) stated him to have sold 50m records. thanks 182.1.140.43 (talk) 06:00, 18 October 2012 (UTC)

 Done Campbell's now on the list.--Harout72 (talk) 01:49, 19 October 2012 (UTC)

Most of this list is based on OR

What started as a discussion on gaga's page has led me here with a position:

I have no problem with the formula constructed to determine certified sales but the title itself should only be applied to artist whos sales are greater than the lowest figure reported by a reliable source to be a "best selling artist of all time". Otherwise this title depends exclusively on a qualififcation defined by wikipedia which is OR and SYNTH.108.172.114.141 (talk) 05:41, 12 October 2012 (UTC)

I find it pretty interesting how an IP would "know" so much about Wikipedia's policies.--CallMeNathanTalk2Me 17:19, 12 October 2012 (UTC)

What does that have to do with anything? Point is 90% of the artists on this page have never had a reliable source refer to them as "pne of the best selling artists of all time". This page is a joke. Its what wrong with wikipedia. Wiki is about whats verifiable, not whats true (or what a fan wishes was true). If there isnt a source it shouldnt be on wikipedia. 108.172.114.141 (talk) 18:31, 14 October 2012 (UTC)

And really? 100+ arists are all considered "one of the best selling artists". Ths article is laughable. 96.49.237.199 (talk) 19:07, 15 October 2012 (UTC)

I guess no one can hear my comments with their favorite artist blaring through their iPod headphones....96.49.237.199 (talk) 21:26, 16 October 2012 (UTC)
I actually agree. The list is too big. I suggested cutting the list to only for 100 million and up but no one but harout responded and of course he didn't agree as according to him there was too many notable artists who had sold less than 100 million.--Krystaleen 11:07, 19 October 2012 (UTC)

Vandalism or Delete for a reason ?

I remember that yesterday i write a request to update and included the claim of Linda Ronstadt and Lady Gaga but when i check this talk page today, my edit request yesterday has been delete.

Nearly 30 artist claim sales in this list has been updated and include based on my edit request, if it too much and prohibited for me entering this talk page and list, please informed and i will leave this list with no hesitate.

But if is not, i will continue to asking and update the claim sales of those artist if deserve for them and the reliable source available. thanks 39.208.109.247 (talk) 01:53, 20 October 2012 (UTC)

It would be best if you registered yourself for all of us here to be able to identify which edits belong to you. Every time you log in, your edits appear either with numbers beginning with 39... or 182....., therefore, lot of editors may not be able to identify which edits you're talking about. Your edits from yesterday, submitted with numbers beginning 182..., have been reverted by another editor because you blanked a section without an explanation. DO NOT blank discussion threads, they get archived automatically. Finally, your yesterday's requests have been considered by me and are done including listing Linda Ronstadt with 50 million claim, and changing Lady Gaga's claimed figure from 64 million to 66 million.--Harout72 (talk) 02:17, 20 October 2012 (UTC)

It seem's cost a time to registered in here and i will continue using a usual general identify, the most important is i understand that editor read all edit request perfectly and i will follow your suggest to not let any blank discussion thread. thanks 182.9.242.238 (talk) 05:15, 20 October 2012 (UTC)

Eric Clapton

How many his certification sales exactly? The Daily Telegraph (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/art/art-news/9606098/Gerhard-Richter-painting-owned-by-Eric-Clapton-sells-for-21-million-the-highest-price-paid-for-a-living-artist.html) stated him to have sold 50m records? is it fit enough? but personally, perhaps he has sold more than that claim. thanks 182.9.242.238 (talk) 06:09, 20 October 2012 (UTC)

50 million only? Eric Clapton has some 65-70 million in certified units. We need a claimed figure that's around/over that.--Harout72 (talk) 16:54, 20 October 2012 (UTC)

It seems impossible, i've been trying to find the reliable source for him and that's the only claim figure that has been posted in the newspaper. I suggest you to include Clapton in to this list even his claim only 50m records but his certification more than that, I believe many newspaper editors will read this list when they wrote about some artist, it will be encourage them to search and announce the best claim figure for Clapton. thanks 114.121.110.113 (talk) 03:11, 21 October 2012 (UTC)
