Battleship definition?
[edit]It doesn't make much sense to have an article titled Hydra class battleship and not include them in this list. Are they battleships or not? Srnec (talk) 05:32, 14 December 2011 (UTC)
- "Battleship" is a somewhat vague term and changed in definition as ship types changed. Take a look at the second paragraph in the battleship article, which does a decent job of explaining the issue. The modern conception of the term essentially includes just pre-dreadnought and dreadnought battleships. Earlier ships are ironclads, steam battleships, and ships of the line. The Hydra class should really be at Hydra class ironclad (and at List_of_decommissioned_ships_of_the_Hellenic_Navy#Battleships, they're classified as such). There should be a List of ironclad warships of Greece that includes the Hydras, Vasilissa Olga, and Vasilefs Georgios. Parsecboy (talk) 12:30, 14 December 2011 (UTC)
Battleships of Greece
[edit]If it is not a list should it not be renamed to battleships of Greece? AIRcorn (talk) 04:33, 21 April 2012 (UTC)
- I see that this has been classed as A class which should mean that it has been reviewed to a standard considered by some to be higher than GA. I suggest that the article is renamed to remove "List" from the name and perhaps considered for WP:FAC. Jezhotwells (talk) 09:53, 24 April 2012 (UTC)
- Frankly, I don't care what a few of the FLC people think is or is not a list. This article lists the four battleships ordered or purchased by the Greek Navy, which merits the present title.
- As for GAN/FAC, it might as well get the GA review. This article is so far down the queue for FAC, it probably will never go. Parsecboy (talk) 17:38, 24 April 2012 (UTC)

Comments
[edit]1. guns that had been ordered for the ship in the United States were instead used to arm the British Abercrombie-class monitors - did the Greeks sell them to the British or did the US just give them to Britain?
Apart from that I see nothing else wrong with the...list
I've put the article on hold for seven days to allow you to address the issues I've brought up. Feel free to contact me on my talk page, or here with any concerns. Thurgate (talk) 20:05, 1 May 2012 (UTC)
- Bethlehem sold the guns to Britain - clarified this in the text. Thanks for reviewing the article. Parsecboy (talk) 23:28, 1 May 2012 (UTC)
- Yep that's much better. I see no other issues so good job and good luck if you send it up for another FL nomination. Thurgate (talk) 23:51, 1 May 2012 (UTC)
- Argh how do you sort out the GA process on the talk page again (Haven't done this in a year, sorry!) Thurgate (talk) 00:09, 2 May 2012 (UTC)
- No worries, you've been away for a while (good to see you back, by the way) :) There's a template you have to copy on to the talk page (see here) and you have to add the article to the right section at WP:GA. I think a bot should take care of the rest. Parsecboy (talk) 00:31, 2 May 2012 (UTC)
