Suggested move

[edit]

I think the current name is a rather cumbersome one. The GAA equivalent is quite neat and simple - List of GAA stadia. Can I suggest this be moved to List of FAI stadia? Any objections? Fmph (talk) 16:10, 16 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thats a good move.Rownon (talk) 17:01, 16 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Done! Fmph (talk) 20:50, 16 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The problem I have with this is that the FAI doesn't own or run any of these stadiums, it is just a reluglatory body which oversees the sport. Generally the clubs or local councils own these stadiums. Its not really the same as GAA.Lord Cornwallis (talk) 18:38, 17 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

What is wrong with "List of Football Stadia in the Republic of Ireland" or something similar. The FAI don't own the grounds bar a few, thank Christ! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.40.164.61 (talk) 22:26, 20 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I think "List of Football Stadia in the Republic of Ireland" is best and is consistent with other articles such as List of football stadiums in Denmark and List of football stadiums in France. Although there is the Stadia vs Stadiums debate. Crc (talk) 20:56, 19 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I just undid an edit by 92.27.5.202, which had included The Brandywell in Derry. I don't think that the Brandywell shouldn't be included in this list, as it is not consistent with usage in other countries - note, for example, that the List of Australian football (soccer) stadiums by capacity does not include the stadium of Wellington Phoenix FC in New Zealand, even though they play in the A-League. This will continue to be a problem if the list continues to be named "List of FAI stadia". I re-iterate that I think the list should be renamed "List of football stadiums in the Republic of Ireland". Does anyone object to this? Crc (talk) 12:00, 30 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

So I moved the page from "List of FAI Stadia" to "List of football (soccer) stadiums in the Republic of Ireland" and someone has just moved it back stating that it was moved without consensus or without following the correct procedure. I didn't mean to violate these rules, but since 19 March no one else has contributed to this talk page. I don't feel that a consensus exists for "List of FAI stadia" either and in fact I believe that title to be inaccurate, misleading, and not consistent with other lists of European football stadiums.Crc (talk) 14:51, 7 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

There is consensus for the current title as seen above and talking to yourself on a talk page does not mean that the page should be moved 4 months after the last move. I find it a bit to say the least that you as an editor have not edited for two years before this and now suddenly have jumped to moving pages!MusicInTheHouse (talk) 12:27, 8 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Idiotic name that doesn't make any sense. What is an FAI stadium? If it's a list of stadia who's teams are under the jurisdiction of the FAI then the Brandywell should be included on the list but it still doesn't deal with the matter of the rediculous and misleading title. As I suggested above under an IP address, "List of Football Stadia in the Republic of Ireland" or something along those lines is clearly more appropriate. Any moving of Ireland related pages needs to wait until the current Arbcom case is sorted out.MITH 16:52, 4 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
"List of Football Stadia in the Republic of Ireland" is more sensible. FAI Stadia isn't a clear title. The Brandywell should be in a similar Northern Ireland list with a note included on this one.

Your problem with the title is noted. I'm guessing that the consensus will be to move it to something like "List of Football Stadia in Ireland (state)" but thats only a guess on what the Arbcom case will decide on the Ireland naming issue.MITH 23:43, 6 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you MITH for your helpful comments about me talking to myself on this discussion page! And what does my frequency of editing have to do with anything? Maybe I have better things to be doing that editing Wikipedia pages all the time. Anyway, It appears that there are several others who think that the term "FAI Stadia / Stadiums" is erroneous and misleading. For what it's worth, I think that "Ireland (state)" would also be unnecessarily confusing; the term "Republic of Ireland" has currency in many domains when specifying the southern state, including in common speech, and especially in relation to association football. What is the Arbcom case? Crc (talk) 16:35, 11 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It's WP:IECOLL. Also check out the Arbcom ruling stating that no page regarding the name can be moved until the case is sorted out.MITH 16:44, 11 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
