User:Moonraker split out the list of pre-1801 ambassadors, on the basis that they were not ambassadors of UK. Unfortuantely he did not provide a link to the pre-a801 list, so that subsequent editos have started adding them back. However, neither Ireland (before 1801) nor Scotland (1603-1707) normally sent theri own ambassadors. They were envoys of the monarch, for foreign relations were (indeed are) a matter for the royal prerogative. I therefore regard the pre-1801 list as appropriate to include in the present article. Recent "restorations" of pre-1801 ambassadors to the list are of much lower quality than what was in the article before the changes last April. May the best solution not be to revert the article? Alterantively, the article needs to stay as a post-1801 list with a link to the list for the previous peried. Comments please. Peterkingiron (talk) 17:03, 23 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
