Local news stations

[edit]

This is a list of local news stations only. Is there list of national news stations we can link to this?--Wyn.junior (talk) 18:47, 13 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

CW affiliates

[edit]

I think we should include CW affiliates. The CW is the only English-language network that regularly schedules original programming whose affiliates aren't included here. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2602:306:C448:80C9:E4ED:C486:B526:221A (talk) 21:20, 10 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Sorting not working correctly

[edit]

Sorting on this page is lexical, not numeric, so sorting is not doing what a user will expect. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.169.72.67 (talk) 19:21, 23 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

PBS Stations?

[edit]

Is there a reason why there don't seem to be any PBS stations on this list?

Vmanjr (talk) 22:43, 13 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

PBS stations can be included, but they can be problematic. This table is divided into media markets, but PBS stations aren't assigned by market. It is not at all unusual for a single market to be served by multiple PBS stations, or for a single PBS station to serve parts of multiple markets. This could create confusion of just where to list some PBS stations. Jimtrue (talk) 18:39, 2 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The two articles appear to be the same list, with this one having more detail. Presidentman talk · contribs (Talkback) 23:28, 5 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Looks like you're probably right. I agree if that's indeed the case. JeopardyTempest (talk) 23:56, 6 April 2019 (UTC) I have noticed this article doesn't seem the easiest to find by Googling or looking at other Wikipedia articles, unless you know the perfect search term... perhaps the other got created because people had trouble finding this one (or that one)... and we need to add the link in useful places to other related articles? JeopardyTempest (talk) 23:57, 6 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

List of United States major television network affiliates should simply be redirected here. There's nothing unique in the other article to merge here.--MadeYourReadThis (talk) 11:31, 16 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Seconded. It also seems the other article is working on outdated markets ratings Eliaszjm (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 16:57, 24 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Logos

[edit]

Should this article include station logos? A user has added logos, but some of them have been removed for being "non-free images." Pja1981 (talk) 21:02, 31 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

With the correct permissions, this could be a great visual addition to the article. From what I've seen, many of the stations' individual pages have their on-air visual branding in the infobox. Eliaszjm (talk) 17:58, 2 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Areas served instead of counties

[edit]

Instead of an exhaustive list of counties served by each market, should there be a link to a regional article for each market? For example, for New York it would be New York metropolitan area, for LA it would be Greater Los Angeles, etc.

Conflicting Information

[edit]

For some rural counties, there is conflicting information over what market they are actually in. For example, Truck Ads states in this source that Accomack County, Virginia is in the Salisbury market. However, as 32.216.79.214 has pointed out, entering the zip code for the largest city, Chincoteague, which can be seen in this source, shows mostly channels in the Hampton Roads market, though there are a few Salisbury channels, as well as WTTG (DC). What does everyone think we should do? GamerKiller2347 (talk) 04:36, 24 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Many rural counties, because of their location, get signals from their market and neighboring markets, simply because the two markets have to collide somewhere. TV listings should have no merit on what market serves a county, imo. Only official designation by the FCC should count. FCC has lookup tools. Currently, I get tv channels from 3 markets and they show up in the TV listings that way. Of course, this is my original research and should have no bearing on whatever is decided, per Wikipedia rules. The Chincoteague zip code, for example, pulls up Fox, CBS, and ABC channels from multiple markets. To judge a market, be sure to choose the over-the-air antenna option and not cable or satellite as they can add and remove channels per contract agreements. Also, the proper zip code for Accomack County is 23301. Chincoteague zip (23336) pulls up multiple markets, too, in the listings. Again, listings and TV guides should not be considered reliable sources, imo, nor cable and satellite carriage. P37307 (talk) 06:26, 24 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Do you have a link for the FCC's lookup tools? GamerKiller2347 (talk) 14:00, 7 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Here is the most recent DMA list, post 2009 analog TV shut-down, effective February 2017. Document: ALL FULL-POWER TELEVISION STATIONS BY DMA: https://docs.fcc.gov/public/attachments/DOC-288530A2.pdf. It's worth noting, though, they have delegated DMA to the Neilson Company for satellite TV DMA exceptions, and has a process to add and retransmit an out of market station via the STELA Reauthorization Act of 2014 market modification process for satellite TV. https://transition.fcc.gov/mb/significantviewedstations041916.pdf [1] P37307 (talk) 23:16, 7 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Elko, NV?

[edit]

Was Elko once a DMA but no longer? I see an area of north central NV (I assume that's around Elko) as forming its own small DMA, but the article seems to contraindicate that. Only two DMA's are listed as primarily in NV. YellowAries2010 (talk) 00:41, 17 June 2022 (UTC) YellowAries2010 (talk) 00:41, 17 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Per the FCC [2], Elko, NV is part of the SALT LAKE CITY dma. P37307 (talk) 01:23, 17 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Redirect or not?

[edit]

As the creator of this article, I have been getting notices recently because there seems to be an odd pattern where the redirect is removed and then reinstated by the same editor. Looking at the history, the redirect seems to have been a WP:BOLD action (courtesy ping @MrSchimpf: who first made the article a redirect). Since this seems to be an issue, I would like to get a more formal consensus on if this article should be a redirect. If so, perhaps some sort of page protection is needed to prevent the redirect from being removed? The current situation is not constructive IMO.
