Mistake in references

Good stuff, just one little thing: I assume that "Partridge, Christopher Hugh" and "Partrige, Christopher H." in the bibliography is the same guy, with just a typo? This should be fixed, but the citations also have to be changed so that it's clear which book they refer to (Partridge (2003)...) Lampman (talk) 01:36, 2 September 2009 (UTC)

Good point, I will fix that. Cirt (talk) 01:40, 2 September 2009 (UTC)

An image used in this article, File:ScientologyCenter1.jpg, has been nominated for speedy deletion at Wikimedia Commons for the following reason: Copyright violations
What should I do?

Don't panic; deletions can take a little longer at Commons than they do on Wikipedia. This gives you an opportunity to contest the deletion (although please review Commons guidelines before doing so). The best way to contest this form of deletion is by posting on the image talk page.

  • If the image is non-free then you may need to upload it to Wikipedia (Commons does not allow fair use)
  • If the image isn't freely licensed and there is no fair use rationale then it cannot be uploaded or used.
  • If the image has already been deleted you may want to try Commons Undeletion Request

Guy Ballard - can be classified as UFO cult?

Personally, I am not sure that this article should remain at all, it seems to be largely built off of many users' original research over time, and what is more, it just seems to be a long list of ET cults that everyone adds to from time to time. Eradas (talk) 01:36, 18 August 2013 (UTC)

Now, I myself am not very familiar with Gallard's specific teachings, but his general ones seem to focus very little at all on UFOs or ETs, in fact, they seem to avoid mentioning the existence of either, and differ very greatly from the teachings of Heaven's Gate and the Ashtar Command, and other such cults. Also debatable, as a side note, is whether Scientology should really be considered a "UFO religion".

The article itself said: "However, Guy Ballard did not mention anything about extraterrestrial spacecraft in the teachings of the I AM Activity; almost all communication from the Ascended Masters came telepathically. In the very few cases where Guy Ballard claimed to physically encounter ascended masters, he said they appeared to him from the etheric plane, not from a space vehicle, and most of these masters are said to be formerly human teachers on Earth who have attained enlightenment. However, during Guy Ballard's claimed first encounter with an ascended master, the ascended master St. Germain, in a cave underneath Mount Shasta, he said that St. Germain showed him a television set that could receive transmissions from the planet Venus."

And yet, this very last statement about that saint and the TV set from Venus, is itself unsourced and a clear example of original research. Again, I agree that I may well have removed too much in my initial edit, this was just a random page I came across while browsing, but I really think that this article needs better clean-up. Ballard never claimed to be communicating with flying saucers commanded by extraterrestrials, and to my knowledge, a magic TV beneath the earth allowing contact with the spirits of supposedly deceased saints does not seem to qualify as one. Eradas (talk) 02:32, 18 August 2013 (UTC)

I've checked the source, Partridge, and rewritten that section to match what Partridge actually says. We follow what the sources say, and of course at times they may contradict each other (I'm speaking in general right now, not about this particular edit). Dougweller (talk) 10:02, 18 August 2013 (UTC)

My thanks, Doug, for your consideration, and I thank you also for your kindness in welcoming me to Wikipedia. If I need any further assistance or guidance in the future, or if there is any other issue I am uncertain with, rest assured I will remember to contact you directly in the future. If you yourself are ever in need of any assistance at all, and I can in any way somehow help, please do not hesitate to contact me either, my friend. Best wishes, Eradas (talk) 15:16, 18 August 2013 (UTC)

Thanks, just glad I could be of help and thanks again for pointing this out. You've already started to 'fix the Internet'. Dougweller (talk) 18:36, 18 August 2013 (UTC)

In what order should entries appear in the list?

Entries have been added to the list in no particular order. I propose putting the list in alphabetical order by group name. Ps8v9 (talk) 22:40, 7 June 2020 (UTC)

The list is sortable by column; Name, date of founding, etc. Editor2020 (talk) 20:24, 10 June 2020 (UTC)
I understand that the table is sortable, but it seems odd that there is no initial sort when the page is loaded. Would it be annoying of me to edit the list so that it's initially sorted by the Name column? I hope that's not a dumb question; I'm a noob to making significant edits so I don't know the prevailing custom. Ps8v9 (talk) 00:44, 18 June 2020 (UTC)

Proposed additions to the list

I know I could just add these to the list in the article, but I want to do further research before committing anything.

Merge with UFO religion

They're both a description and they're both a list. Can I propose a merger of the content? DAVilla (talk) 11:38, 10 February 2021 (UTC)

Nya Pam Gom — Sources/Verifiability?

Hello, I'm trying to find any source on the Nya Pam Gom page listed here, and although I can confirm the website domain was registered 5 yrs 66 days ago, the link given here is to a defunct page (archive.org has a couple captures from June 2022, but I have found no evidence the page contained much of anything before these dates) so I'm wondering if anyone has a better source, or any source, to show this was an actual UFO religion. Since this article has as important policies "no original research" and "verifiability" and use of a single non-reputable site I don't think it should continue to be included here. Also, this is a very recent inclusion—only added on June 11, 2022, and given that the page for "The Cosmic Circle of Fellowship" also only had a single source and was deleted, I don't think this religion meets criteria.

I'm interested in hearing other opinions before doing anything with the page since I'm not an editor. Thank you. 107.129.164.185 (talk) 23:30, 11 August 2022 (UTC)
