Links from song titles
[edit]I'm trying to tidy this up a bit - do I still link from a song title if Wikipedia doesn't have an entry for it? 82.110.248.146 (talk) 13:27, 20 October 2008 (UTC)
- If trying to put a link on it results in a red link, don't bother. If there is actually a page that's fine but if there isn't there's no point in putting up a link unless you feel like creating the page (in which case you'd have to have a good reason to - pages aren't automatically created for every song that's ever been on the television.) Arguments About Evicted Contestants : Separate Page?
[edit]I was thinking, several good acts (Scott, Austin, Laura) have gone this year and their setions - Laura's mainly - are clogged up with people's reactions to their elimination. As their eliminations are discussed frequently, maybe these things should be on a separate page, rather than clog up this page, which is only really meant to be about the finalists and what the judges have said about them, we should put Leona Lewis's reaction, etc, on a separate page? Tell me what you think? Or if not, a separate section on this page. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.172.246.250 (talk) 13:04, 15 November 2008 (UTC)
- This has already been split out as a sub-page from The X Factor (UK series 5), so rather than having a sub-sub-page I'd be inclined to leave everything in this article. A separate section for reaction might work, but at the moment I don't personally think it's necessary. I do think, though, that we need to try to be reasonably concise with this stuff. When events are unfolding there's a temptation to dump a lot of trivia that seems interesting now but realistically won't be so interesting in a few years' time. Matt 15:20, 15 November 2008 (UTC).
- I agree its not worth creating individual pages for these people are there is very little encyclopdia worthy content to put on them. Sections like Laura's need to be trimmed down greatly IMO, you can make the point that the elimination was controvertial without the need for countless quotes from celebrities saying so. I dont feel its very encyclopedic at the moment, Ill have a go at trimming it down and making it slightly more balanced. Thestealthmonkey (talk) 06:37, 12 December 2008 (UTC)
- I would go further and say that as this is an article about the performers, it is odd that the bulk of it is about their performances. Surely we should have mini-biographies of the contestants leading up to, and perhaps beyond, the show - but the show itself is covered separately. Ros0709 (talk) 20:38, 12 December 2008 (UTC)
Odd statement?
[edit]In the piece about Laura's eviction I'm tempted to remove the statement "Many media commentators accused Walsh of voting her off to allow his remaining act JLS to win the series." Maybe they did, but surely that's what you'd expect him to do, isn't it? That's what anyone would do? A judge voting off their own act is very rare, and I think it may have only ever happened once. "Accused" makes it sound as if he's done something wrong. Any thoughts? Matt 15:21, 15 November 2008 (UTC). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.138.43.117 (talk)
Unsourced and unverified informationn.
[edit]Quote from Diana's section "This created some speculation as to the legitimacy of her illness".
I want to remove this part until it is properly sourced and verified. This statement, without proof, is merely here'say. Metafis (talk) 00:14, 20 November 2008 (UTC)
- I'd put a {{fact}} tag next to it first, to give people a chance to source it. But I agree with your sentiment: we need to be strict about requiring references otherwise this article just becomes a forum for people to air their personal opinions.81.129.130.108 (talk) 14:41, 20 November 2008 (UTC)
Eoghan and Diana
[edit]In the newspaper (The Sun), it's said that Eoghan and Diana had a relationship in which sparked controversy and I'm wondering if it should be mentioned somewhere in the article. Here's a source I've found regarding this > http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/showbiz/tv/x_factor/article1959481.ece
It doesn't matter if this is included in the article or not, I just thought I'd bring this up. --Burai (talk) 21:21, 22 November 2008 (UTC)
- No, they're not in a relationship. They are very good friends, but I read somewhere that Diana has a boyfriend (who ISN'T Eoghan). You shouldn't believe everything you read on he internet. Especially if it's on the Sun's website. Lowri (talk) 22:42, 6 December 2008 (UTC)
- Well, I just realised this whole thing was false anyway. I thought it was true... oh well. At least we now know that Eoghan and Diana were just companions. --Burai (talk) 22:43, 9 December 2008 (UTC)
- They have comfirmed it now (Eoghan and Diana) theres no saying its not true there are pictures of them kissing. 86.168.5.166 (talk) 23:02, 22 December 2008 (UTC)

Requested move
[edit]To me, "List of..." suggests literally just a list and not much more. I'm wondering if "The X Factor finalists (UK series 5)" might be better? Another Matt (talk) 02:49, 1 December 2008 (UTC)
- I think it's fine as it is. After all, this page is basically a list of the final twelve - exactly what the title says it is. If there's anything else of importance to say about individual acts, someone ought to create seperate pages for them (I believe someone's already created a page for Ruth Lorenzo. If there's anything else about the twelve that is worth mentioning but doesn't belong in a list, it ought to be on their own page. Lowri (talk) 22:44, 6 December 2008 (UTC)
County Derry
[edit]Just wondering why we're forced to call it County Londonderry when both Eoghan & the X-Factor presenters have been referring to the county as County Derry? Aren't the two forms accepted? Why should people with a nationalist background be forced to keep the imperialist form? I suggest using both to please both sides. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Onynyo (talk • contribs) 17:30, 7 December 2008 (UTC)
- We refer to it as County Londonderry as per this guideline. I reccomend that any issue you have is raised there, rather than here. J Milburn (talk) 17:45, 7 December 2008 (UTC)
Are you sure the date of births are correct? Eughon is still of compulsory scholing age so therefore must have been born after 31st August 1992. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.104.241.236 (talk) 15:25, 14 December 2008 (UTC)
Eoghan being the youngest and first
[edit]Shouldn't it be mentioned that Eoghan is the youngest person ever to be in the final and the first Irish person to be in the final? It was mentioned numberous times on the finale show and in a recent interview with Eoghan:
"If I make it through I will be the youngest ever person in the final and the first Irish person to make the final so I’m nearly making history right now."
Source: Belfast Telegraph, quoted on http://www.unrealitytv.co.uk/x-factor/x-factor-will-eoghan-quigg-be-youngest-x-factor-finalist/
- Well, I thought Emily Nakanda (who was in last year's X Factor) was the youngest to be in the live shows as she was just 15, before she was withdrawn. Besides, I don't think that really needs a mention as it's just trivia. Same for mentioning the way Diana does her performances and JLS bearing their "lucky colours" throughout their performances. --Burai (talk) 17:40, 15 December 2008 (UTC)
Semi-protection
[edit]Due to the steady flow of disruptive edits from anonymous editors, I have semi-protected the page for a month, so that only established editors can make changes to the page. If things calm down and the editors here would like the semi-protection lifted earlier, I will not object if any administrator wishes to change it. --Elonka 20:00, 17 December 2008 (UTC)
Bias sneaking through via unsourced information
[edit]There seems to be a lot of unverified verdicts on the contestants performances. I don't know whether they are true, but if it is going to be written that contestants were praised or criticised, there should be some kind of source for this, as it is misleading otherwise. Anyone can come along here and make this article reflect the best of their favourite person, but this might not be at all reflective of what happened on the show. Therefore, I feel that if there is going to be a review of a performance included here, that there is at least one source provided for the comment having been reported. Anyone agree? Sky83 (talk) 12:46, 19 December 2008 (UTC)
- Totally agree! All unsourced verdicts should be sourced or removed. JS (chat) 12:49, 19 December 2008 (UTC)
- I just went through the article intending to tag the sections needing sources, but it looked so messy because there were literally so many unsourced 'verdicts' on the contestants. I don't know if anyone would like to delete these supposed quotes and opinions from the judges, or whether we should leave it for now, and hope that people editing read this discussion and add sources in the future? Sky83 (talk) 17:38, 19 December 2008 (UTC)
Reinstate JLS as article in own right?
[edit]Clearly, this must be done now. I am not a big fan (not that it matters, but I voted for Alex in the final) but since Eoghen Quigg's article was voted to be kept on the grounds of him having placed in a music competition, the JLS article needs to be put back on it's own, instead of a redirect, since technically, as the runners up, they have more of a wiki claim than Eoghen. Anyone agree, and furthermore fancy doing the deed? Sky83 (talk) 12:59, 22 December 2008 (UTC)
- Replied here. JS (chat) 18:43, 22 December 2008 (UTC)
Who has a Recording Contract?
[edit]Last week someone created a Diana Vickers article, saying she's been signed for a recording contract. I guess someone was just making it up as it no longer exists.
Also, who else has been signed and should they have thier own page? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.163.158.161 (talk) 11:10, 24 December 2008 (UTC)
- A Daily Mail article here said that Sony intended to sign Quigg, Vickers and JLS as well as Burke. However, as far as I know, the only one with a genuine contract at the moment is Burke. J Milburn (talk) 11:12, 24 December 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah, it says that all of the four final contestants have signed with SyCo, but only Alexandra definitly has. The only others who have signed official record contracts are Eoghan (with RCA) and JLS (with Epic records) and as of now Diana Vickers has not signed a contract. Therefore this article needs updating. Wneedham02 (talk) 18:20, 21 January 2009 (UTC)
Diana Vickers Article
[edit]I dont see why Diana shouldn't have an article, she has in fact been signed to RCA... Ruth has her own page and she isnt signed... is wikipedia about actual information, or about what popular with the main editors ? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.40.1.139 (talk) 21:52, 11 February 2009 (UTC)
- Because she has not to date gained notability outside of X Factor. Being "signed" or not has nothing to do with it. Why Ruth's page has survived AfD, I don't know either. I think the powers that be need to get together and agree on some consistent notability guidelines. -- Smjg (talk) 09:56, 20 February 2009 (UTC)
Diana has begun recording an album, which give's her far more notability over Ruth and Laura (who both have articles). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.41.123.197 (talk) 13:58, 31 March 2009 (UTC)
- Read Wikipedia:Other stuff exists. Ruth and Laura probably shouldn't have articles either. anemone
│projectors 15:14, 31 March 2009 (UTC)
Diana Vickers needs her own page now, her section on this current article is too long and could be cut down by giving her her own page. Also, as Laura and Ruth have pages (who were evicted before her and have far less media and/or fan attention) so should Diana. (4.05.09) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.129.122.84 (talk) 19:57, 4 May 2009 (UTC)
I think we need a rewrite. Wikipedia talk:Articles for Creation/Diana Vickers contains a copy of her somewhat long section at List of The X Factor finalists (UK series 5). Yet, it got tagged as copyright violation of multiple sources by User:EarwigBot II. Alexius08 (talk) 02:26, 24 May 2009 (UTC)
Diana vickers (singer) has been created today (though Diana Vickers still redirects here). Does the December 2008 AfD (Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Diana Vickers) still apply, or is there new information on notability? Disembrangler (talk) 11:10, 9 June 2009 (UTC)
- She's no more notable now than she was then. AnemoneProjectors (talk) 19:27, 9 June 2009 (UTC)
Diana Vickers has just been given the lead role in the West End play 'The Rise And Fall Of Little Voice' and I think it is fair to say that this makes her notable enough for this page to be restored.
Diana has now separated herself from the X Factor and has become a notable individual; it seems pointless in denying her a wikipedia page.

Diana Vickers already has a Wikipedia page
--83.70.65.61 (talk) 09:52, 16 July 2009 (UTC)
Why can't people stop creating new articles to get around the deletion/redirect thing? It's not on. I've redirected that page here until the deletion review is over. The article, if recreated, belongs at Diana Vickers and nowhere else. AnemoneProjectors (talk) 10:54, 16 July 2009 (UTC)
- But now that Diana Vickers actually has a main article, shouldn't the redirect go to the actual article and not the summary on The X Factor contestant's page? 83.71.45.11 (talk) 07:57, 20 July 2009 (UTC)
- Yes, the redirects haven't been updated. You can help! AnemoneProjectors (talk) 10:25, 20 July 2009 (UTC)

Discography
[edit]This article is for bios of the X Factor contestants. Post X Factor they either fade into obscurity and there is nothing or little further to write, or they become independently notable and their continued careers are covered in separate articles. Thus there should be no discography, except for their works as an X Facotr group. I propose to remove from this section all the subsequent releases. I42 (talk) 18:42, 12 February 2010 (UTC)
- I agree. Though the discography will then only contain one item, and I think it might be more appropriately covered in the series article. Same thing for series 6. Plus, there's a list of music releases from The X Factor (UK) contestants. What do you think? AnemoneProjectors (talk) 21:54, 12 February 2010 (UTC)
- Yes, agree - and having all the X Factor group singles appear together seems like a sensible idea. I'm willing to do that, though busy with real life this weekend. (Waiting a couple of days to await further comment seems reasonable anyhow.) I42 (talk) 09:49, 13 February 2010 (UTC)
