Fan trivia

[edit]

Just for the record I am okay with adding fan trivia if it is done the correct way by having a notable impact. The following are examples that have been added (and reverted) for years:

  • "Meet the Beat Alls" - It is mentioned in sources out there that Craig is a Beatles music fan. This can be added in a new section that goes into episode production. Again...these would have to be sourced through a reliable source and not fan sites such as cartoon database. Books and/or news like sites are preferred.
  • "X makes a cameo in y episode" - Okay and? Does the placement have any special meaning behind the scenes? How is the cameo notable?
  • "This is the first aired episode to use the digital ink-and-paint animation, though some episodes that aired in the fourth season run are still cel animated." - Again... this needs to be sourced through a reliable reference. What impact did this have (if any) on the production quality? Simply throwing out a trivial possible fact with no explanation behind it isn't as helpful.
  • "See Me, Feel Me, Gnomey" - There is no evidence to support that the episode "still has not been aired in the USA, due to a Communism vs. Capitalism overtone, and because of flashing lights that could be potentially irritating to children's eyes". It should be looked into further and mentioned if needed in a production section.
  • "This episode had an animated guest appearance by The Apples in Stereo performing Signal in the Sky (Let's Go!)." - The episode which introduces "Robin" does indeed have this. The information can either be provided in a production section or found on the main PPG page.
  • "This episode is known for the dialogue being entirely in rhyme" - how is this notable? Is there a background story about how this fact impacted episode production?
  • "Not counting the opening monologue, the first act of the episode is known for it's lack of dialogue." - Same as above... what is the story behind this fact?
  • "All the episode, except for the ending, shows everything being seen from the Mayor's point of view, like if it was a documental." - Same as above... if there is no meaning behind this then it is useless to add.
  • "This episode plays a pretext to The Powerpuff Girls Movie (2002), which gives a fuller explanation to the origin of the Powerpuff Girls." - This bit is WP:OR without a reliable source and sounds like an opinion.
  • "Mark Hamill guest stars as the voice of the Cat." - This is from "Catmando", im not sure where this bit should be added if proven true.
  • "The episode features the songs "Rainbow's Theme Song" and "Love Makes The World Go 'Round" by David Smith." - In "Mime for a Change" this song is included, it needs sourcing and should either be included in a "production" section or mentioned on the PPG main page.
  • "This episode is also a parody of giant monster films made in Japan, and a spoof of the kaiju film, Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla." - This would need a reliable source.
  • "This episode of The Powerpuff Girls was dedicated to the citizens of Manhattan, New York who lives were lost during the September 11 attacks." - This bit was included in "The City of Frownsville" as a note, it needs sourcing. If proven to be true then it can be added to a production section.
  • "This is only episode in the entire series not to feature the Powerpuff Girls." - (Custody Battle) I do not see how this has a meaningful impact production wise.

Removal of unsourced credits

[edit]

Over the past week, the episode list tables on this page have been edited to exclude credits for director, writer, and storyboard artist across all seasons. The reasoning behind these changes is that the credits are unsourced, and unsourced credits do not belong on WP. Looking at these edits at face value, I do not agree that these credits should be removed per the aforementioned reason. Every half-hour episode of the series, to my knowledge, lists credits for these positions, and official credits can be considered a reliable source. If these credits were to be reinstated in the article, the source of these credits should directly be those credits rolled at the end of each episode. Anecdotally, I picked an episode at random and watched the end credits to verify my claim, and the credits appeared to match what was recently deleted due to being unsourced. It is also my understanding that individual episode credits should not need citations if the original source material—the subject of the article—contains that credit. Please let me know if my reasoning is flawed. Thank you. — Paper Luigi TC 00:09, 24 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I am fine with restoring these credits if they are confirmed. As anyone can add any name they want we want to be sure the names are sourced from somewhere to avoid any original research. - Knowledgekid87 (talk) 00:21, 24 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Would a citation at the end of each credit be sufficient enough to include the aforementioned credits in the article? Could said citations mostly or entirely be references to primary sources (e.g. the episodes themselves)? If not, what would be a better source for these than the original episode credits? — Paper Luigi TC 00:21, 26 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Citing the credits is fine as long as the work is actually done, its why we have {{Template:cite episode}}. If you care about adding the info to the list of episodes then I encourage editors to do their part and add in the citations. This can be done via WP:SANDBOX or your user sandbox. - Knowledgekid87 (talk) 03:43, 26 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I have spent the last two days (or so, depending on IRL obligations) attempting to merit these credits. As far as I can tell, every director and writer credit that has been proposed (and not having yet been reverted due to vandalism/some sort of conspiracy to change air dates, etc.) is valid according to the original source material (viewings of the original episodes, which, in my case, are from Hulu, but they should be equally valid as Hulu has the original cuts). — Paper Luigi TC 01:31, 28 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
