Notable

I have moved the following list of faculty from the main page to the talk page, because there is no indication as to why they are notable. If an assertion can be listed (with source), feel free to move them back to the main page. Thanks!

  • Wendell Aycock
  • Thomas Butler
  • Pernendu Dasgupta
  • Ann Hawkins
  • Shelby Hunt
  • Kenneth Ketner
  • Dan Cooke

I put Thomas Butler back into the article. He is the TTU researcher that lost/misplaced/whatever samples of bubonic plague virus in 2003 [1]. --Myles Long/cDc 00:04, 9 January 2006 (UTC)

Magazine covers

As you can see, I've added several magazine covers featuring people on this list (using the format stolen from List of University of Virginia people). I'll also be adding Bobby Knight (not sure which one to pick - want to preserve NPOV). Also, I can't seem to find an electronic copy of the recent The New York Times Magazine cover featuring Mike Leach. Help on finding that would be appreciated. Lbbzman 16:20, 9 February 2006 (UTC)

George H. O'Brien, Jr.

Hello. Tx207 (talkcontribs) has recently added George H. O'Brien, Jr. to the list under the Business section of alumni. I also see that he was previously listed under the Law, politics, and government section. I'm going to go ahead and remove the duplicate listing under "Business," but will add the wikilink and description that Tx207 provided. I think the "Law, politics, and government" makes more sense, as he appears to be most notable for his work as a United States Marine and his receiving of the Medal of Honor. If anyone else disagrees with my approach, please feel free to move O'Brien to the most appropriate category. Cheers, Lbbzman 13:44, 10 June 2006 (UTC)

Verification Request for Additional People to this List

Please do not add individuals to this list without some form of verification of their existence. If they are notable, they should have pages in wikipedia, or at the very least have some form of citation for verification. The reference section was created for this purpose. --Kukini hablame aqui 02:14, 27 February 2007 (UTC)

Please do not revert additions because articles for the people have not yet been created. Some red links are allowed if future articles are likely. Also, unless the information is obviously untrue, use {{fact}} to request reference information (the tag was created for this purpose). --Wordbuilder 17:58, 13 April 2007 (UTC)
I just looked at the page and am very happy to see all redlinked individuals have citations now. Wonderful work!!!--Kukini hablame aqui 00:38, 14 April 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for the help. Sorry if I sounded harsh in my comment above. --Wordbuilder 14:43, 14 April 2007 (UTC)

Athletics

Which athletes are notable? Is it appropriate to list every athlete that plays professionally? If so, the list in the Athletics section is going to get pretty long and maybe should be split into its own article (perhaps, List of Texas Tech University people (athletics)). If not, what is the criteria for inclusion? --Wordbuilder 20:53, 26 June 2007 (UTC)

I guess it depends whether you mean notable at Texas Tech or in professional sports. It would also vary by time period too. E. J. Holub, Donnie Anderson, and Billy Joe Tolliver would be ranked differently by people who were at Tech when they played. Being an All-American would certainly make people worthy of consideration as well as honors received in Pro sports. --

I still do not know what to do on this. Are we sure that everyone notable is on the list and that everyone on the list is actually notable? Dave Parks was not there until today, and I think being the #1 NFL draft pick overall is a big deal. Perhaps we need to decide what makes an athlete significant. Should Graham Harrell be there for breaking college records, even though he went undrafted? Of those in the NFL, should they have to have some accomplishment or minimum number of years? Same with baseball, basketball, etc. Here are the categories to take a look at:

Possible additions

Athletics

Donnie Anderson - NFL running back for Green Bay and St. Louis. During the first Superbowl the story is people in Lubbock quit watching when they saw E. J. Holub of the Kansas City Chiefs tackle Donnie Anderson.

Tom Wilson - Tech quarter back and former head coach at Texas A&M.

Arts & Entertainment

Jan Glenn - Tech cheerleader 1969 and former Houston TV personality. She got her TV start doing weather at a local station in Lubbock (KTRK-TV).

I added Donny Anderson. The story associated with E. J. Holub / Donnie Anderson is interesting but not encyclopedic. As far as Tom Wilson and Jan Glenn go, I think we should add them but need to cite a reference when we do. →Wordbuilder 15:48, 8 July 2007 (UTC)

There is a Wikipedia article about Jackie Sherrill mentioning Tom Wilson (Jackie Sherrill). There is a Wikipedia article mentioning Jan Glenn shown above. --WAB Houston 23:15, 8 July 2007 (UTC)

I hunted down a source and added Tom Wilson. I wasn't able to find anything on Jan Glenn. The article you linked to mentions her name but there's nothing saying she attended Tech. →Wordbuilder 21:46, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

I couldn't find anything on the net about Jan Glenn attending Tech except a mention of her being Miss Lubbock in 1967. I do have a 1969 Texas Tech La Ventana yearbook that has her picture as a cheerleader, among other pictures. WAB Houston 05:41, 25 July 2007 (UTC)

Blake Buchanan / Bahama Buck's

I didn't add him to the list but think he should stay. Obviously not on par with Edward Whitacre, Jr. but stores in 22 locations in 2 states isn't too bad. Nine more are set to open (adding NM as the third state when the Clovis store begins business). →Wordbuilder 02:55, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

I'm going to add this one back in if no one objects. →Wordbuilder 21:39, 25 October 2007 (UTC)

One or the other

The coaches should be listed in either the Athletics section or the Faculty section. If no one has a preference, I'll list them in the former only, rather than in both as they are now. →Wordbuilder 21:38, 25 October 2007 (UTC)

I actually opted for the Faculty section only, since they weren't students. →Wordbuilder (talk) 22:21, 5 December 2007 (UTC)

Bobby G. Stevenson - Ciber Sites

Have no idea why this guy is not listed, At one time he was the largest doner to Tech with a $7 million donation in 1997. http://www.redraiders.com/stories/071601/his_champs.shtml

"On Oct. 10, 1997, Tech's most recent homecoming weekend, the school announced a $7 million gift from Bobby G. Stevenson, a Lubbock native and chairman of Giber, Inc. It represented the largest gift ever to Tech from an alum."

He attended Tech in the early 60s, and his profile says he graduated. he went on to found Ciber inc., now Ciber Sites. One of Forbes top 100 companies to work for.

(I would do this, but I'm not sure how - thanks) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.196.207.46 (talk) 17:08, 30 July 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the info. I added him and Almosthonest06 took care of the citation. →Wordbuilder (talk) 13:39, 31 July 2008 (UTC)

Images

How many images do we want to include? Do we want to just do one per section as it is now or do we want put in as many as a section can contain without adding whitespace to the article? Obviously we should stick with the most prominent. I know there are more images available right now. From what I've seen of featured lists, images are normally a part. →Wordbuilder (talk) 16:34, 30 August 2008 (UTC)
