Nationality?

[edit]

I'm currently fixing up this page and was wondering, for the players; for their nationality, do I do it for the country they represent in international games for rather than the one they were born in?? Megan102 07:15, 28 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It should be for sporting nationality only (i.e. national team) and according to WP:MOSFLAG the country's name should appear instead of the flag.--Gibson Flying V (talk) 22:52, 29 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Sid (Joe) Pearce

[edit]

Player 193 Sid Pearce jnr or Joe - did he really commence in 1922 ? This would mean that he was playing for the club in the same year his dad Sandy turned 38 (I suppose this is possible) but also means that he had an 18 years career since didn't Sid Jnr play in the 1940 GF (also possible I suppose) ? -Sticks66 14:08, 17 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, should read 1929. tricolours (talk) 06:52, 4 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Complete Update

[edit]

I will attempt to update and cleanup the entire list and page. I have made example of what I will do with the first listed player (Harry 'Jersey' Flegg). I would appreciate if there would be minimal change to the page and list during my time editing it. I do realise that this will take time to complete but I believe it is achievable.

I will use information from the following 2 websites:
LINK: http://www.roosters.com.au/about/past-players.html
LINK: http://www.rugbyleagueproject.org/teams/sydney-roosters/players.html

rugbyleagueproject.org is not a reliable source and should be used for guidance only. Only look at its figures in conjunction with other sources such as nrlstats.com.--Gibson Flying V (talk) 22:55, 29 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
rugbyleagueproject.org is a reliable source, it's used for players statistics on Wikipedia and is the only website that has comprehensive material. nrlstats.com does not provide any player records. I would appreciate if there would be minimal change to the page and list during my time editing it. Read above.

rugbyleagueproject.org is a very useful guide and includes Alan Whiticker's blurbs, which do count as a reliable source. But the site does not hold itself out as being official, and readily admits that its records are incomplete and sometimes incorrect. I've found blatant discrepancies amongst their statistics myself and used the 'contact us' function to notify them. And of course nrlastats.com has player records 1. Now, please read WP:MOSFLAGS. The flagicons should all be replaced with the country's name, which has the added benefit of ensuring the page does not load unnecessarily slowly. Also, what's the harm in introducing positions' WP:Wikilinks via {{Rlp}}? I also fixed some broken columns, which you have now re-broken with your reversion. Nothing I did interfered in any way with your updating, so I'd appreciate it if you self-reverted to my version. Cheers.--Gibson Flying V (talk) 00:55, 30 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I apologise for reverting your edits. I will revert them later today but I will keep using Rugby League Project as I am now editing players from the 1980's, these players’ statistics are more reliable than earlier player statistics. The player statistics on nrlstats.com have not been updated for a few years (e.g. Braith Anasta). Looking at your recent contributions to the page, I realise that they have made it better. Thank you.

nrlstats.com also has a bunch of holes in it e.g. http://www.nrlstats.com/archive/match.cfm?MatchID=2891, http://www.nrlstats.com/archive/clubs.cfm?ClubID=6&ClubSeasonID=192. Older versions of the Players' Encyclopaedia had errors as well, though they may have been addressed in later editions. Getting ironclad figures is no easy task.

So are you saying it's OK to use Rugby League Project.

KC Roosters 01:59, 30 July 2014 (UTC)

I guess the question is - since we can't just go to nrl.com and comprehensive, accurate and official numbers, it's a choice between something or nothing. So one might argue that if RLP says Z.Minichiello played 10 games, and there's no other sources, put it in until contradicted.
I find RLP very useful for a) Whiticker's writeups, b) representative stats and c) corroborating with other sources, which, as you quite rightly say, have holes in them too. RLP should therefore always be looked at in conjunction with other sources. If it is contradicted by another source we have to make a judgement about which one to go with, or, go with none/both and accept that it's inconclusive with a note to that effect. Since you're dealing with individual players' statistics it would be helpful to see what appears in their articles too. This is the nature of dealing with players' stats. You mentioned roosters.com.au above. That should be a reliable source.--Gibson Flying V (talk) 02:21, 30 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Please explain this edit, in which you inexplicably undid my shortening of the needlessly long column widths, which forces things such as "Papua New Guinea" onto two lines, when we could have every row on the entire table fitting on single lines. "Sydney Roosters Career" instead of simply "Seasons"? I mean, really. This is knee-jerk reverting at its most obvious.--Gibson Flying V (talk) 11:51, 28 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Complete Update: Completed

[edit]

After 3 months and 9 days I have officially completed my project of fixing the List of Sydney Roosters players Wikipedia page. I now believe that out of all 16 NRL team player lists, the Sydney Roosters list is now the best and highest quality. I will continue to update the page when needed. Thank you Gibson Flying V for your contributions.

Review

[edit]

I have deleted the references and sources from the page to match the other Sydney Roosters pages I have edited (e.g List of Sydney Roosters records). If you believe this needs to be reverted please do so preferably with an explanation.
