List of Swedish films of 2014 is essentially a superfluous content fork, as Sweden otherwise only has films-by-decade lists with no films-by-year lists for any other year but 2014 alone. In that year specifically, one editor undertook a somewhat misguided program of creating standalone lists for every single country that had any films to list at all, often without regard to whether the size of that country's base films list or the number of films in the 2014 list warranted a splitout or not — but for many countries, including Sweden, that 2014 list stands alone as the only year with its own dedicated splitout. There aren't enough other films listed here to warrant splitting any other year off, however, and while the 2014 list does feature some films that aren't in the decade list yet, they can easily be added to the decade list. Obviously by-year lists can be spun back out in the future if there's ever actually a commitment to populating them a lot more fully than just one or two films per year, but until that happens 2014 doesn't need special treatment that no other year is getting. I don't think a full-on proposal is necessary, and it certainly wouldn't be an alternative to this discussion. Note that the date on my original proposal here was August 2023, which means that this has been open for seven months without being resolved — so I've more recently started just immediately merging some obvious no-brainer cases (e.g. lists that only have two or three films in them) without proposing discussions first, though obviously I still initiate a proposal if it's more debatable, or if deletion is actually the better solution (as at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of Sammarinese films of 2014.)
If you're willing to help out with the task, by all means go for it — it's too much for one person to handle it alone, which is why it's been taking a lot of time — but the consensus to upmerge most of these over-chopped 2014 lists already exists, and it's just the actually getting it done that's taking time. We don't really need to propose anymore for the most part, we can just dive in as long as the diving in actually happens. Bearcat (talk) 16:08, 22 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
