Talk:List of Soldier's Medal recipients
This page should include ALL recipients of the Soldiers Medal - of which I am one. It's a great honor to have won this medal (it is the highest peace time honor the Army awards) so not to be included because a person is not a celebrity, only dishonors the medal.±Polyman60 02:57, 15 May 2007 (UTC)polyman60
- I think that the appropriate format would be either 1) a separate article entitled "List of Soldier's Medal recipients" or "Recipients of the Soldier's Medal" or 2) a list added to the existing article "Soldier's Medal." -- Cuppysfriend 14:47, 15 May 2007 (UTC)
Do you know how many recipients there are of the Soldier's Medal? I imagine there are more than you think; the Medal of Honor has been awarded to less than 3,500 since its inception; imagine the number of SM awardees (I assume many more). Perhaps a list of notable figures in history is sufficient; a comprehensive list would be "neat" to show people, but would be long and clumsy to access, perhaps difficult to compile. Adequate proof of one's military achievements can be worn on one's chest, and that should be enough.
Also, the most recent recipient of the Soldier's Medal in the "Soldier's Medal" article is not accurate. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ink170 (talk • contribs) 03:16, 8 October 2008 (UTC)
- This seems much more appropriate in Category:Recipients of the Soldier's Medal... Shimgray | talk | 13:06, 30 March 2009 (UTC)
- ...category now created & populated, and page redirected to Soldier's Medal. Shimgray | talk | 13:15, 30 March 2009 (UTC)
Per WP:CLN, catagories and lists may coexist. And further, since you cannot provide references in a category, a list can be useful to supplement the category. And looking at the list, I see more than a few redlinks, which suggests that there are those who have received this medal, but do not as yet have articles.
All of these reasons and more suggest that a list can exist.
And that aside, redirecting to a category is considered a cross-namespace redirect.
So I'm going to revert to the list. And would like to see some work sourcing those listed. - jc37 18:38, 2 November 2009 (UTC)
List purpose
[edit]I came to this article because of a ref error. But the list doesn't even meet its own criteria. It included a number of redlinks and was in no order, and is far from complete -- just for Wikipedia. It duplicates the effort of the template {{Template:Recipients of the Soldier's Medal}}, but doesn't even have the same information. Why is that? Other than the Soldier's Medal article and the template, it's only used on assorted userpages. It seems pointless. - Salamurai (talk) 01:11, 15 February 2013 (UTC)
