Retired judges

[edit]

Would someone be able to explain the legal basis whereby retired judges still occasionally sit in the Courts? Do they get put on a list of extra judges until they're a certain age or ask not to be on it etc., or is it a life appointment, so that when Senators retire, they don't actually stop being Senators, they just don't get put on the rota any more? I've tried to find out about it but can't find any sources. Thanks. Johnhousefriday (talk) 16:28, 29 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
