Vandalism
[edit]I'm fairly new to the whole wikipedia thing, but there's definitely some vandalism on this page. I'll try to bring it back to an earlier time through the history, but if that doesn't work, I'll try to edit what I catch. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Shoombabi (talk • contribs) 19:22, 29 March 2007 (UTC).
Epiode Titles
[edit]Can we stop reverting to the iTunes release names? They are WRONG - if the TV guides, every relevant piece of information, including SCRIPTS and info from STEVEN SLAVKIN HIMSELF say the episodes are what they were before being changed to reflect what was given in the iTunes release, then I consider it a bad change. In the process of reverting the main article, and this section, so they reflect the REAL name.
EDIT: Ok, Season 1 is done, the names have been REVERTED, and the episode list for season 1 on the main wiki page for Salute Your Shorts is actually IN ORDER like it is here. TODO: season 2.

Season 1 air dates
[edit]There are several sources confirming that the first season of Salute Your Shorts premiered on July 4, 1991: LA Times, NY Times, and Austin American-Statesman. The show definitely does not appear to have aired before this, so I have removed those air dates – this also means that the listed season 1 air dates at the TV Guide website are incorrect and should not be used.
In terms of sourcing, that doesn't leave a lot. EpGuides doesn't include this series. That leaves us to rely on Amazon and iTunes for season #1 air dates (which I generally view as suboptimal as a air dates sourcing). Amazon and iTunes generally agree, but they are one day off each other – e.g. for "Ghost Story", iTunes: July 13, 1991; Amazon: July 12, 1991. They also disagree on the air date of "The First Day" which based on the Austin American-Statesman review seems very likely to have been the episode that Nick "premiered" with on July 4, so I think Amazon (which lists July 5) is likely the more correct source in this specific case. However, the Austin American-Statesman review makes it clear that the show's regular timeslot was Saturdays, which corresponds to July 13, July 20, etc. (iTunes), and not July 12, July 19 (Amazon), so I think except for the air date of "The First Day", the iTunes air dates can be trusted – I am going to use iTunes for the season #1 air dates, with the one exception of the series premiere. --IJBall (contribs • talk) 17:14, 18 June 2021 (UTC)
- Note: It looks like the season #2 airdates from TV Guide are also unreliable and can't be used.
- If I get a chance, I will see if I can use daily television schedules from summer 1991 and 1992 via Newspapers.com to figure out the air dates of the remaining episodes. But it means I will need to find a TV schedule (grid) that actually includes the episode title for this show in the schedule, and the odds of that probably aren't too great... --IJBall (contribs • talk) 17:54, 18 June 2021 (UTC)
- Yes, July 4, 1991 definitely seems to be the correct premiere date.
- I'm not sure if this can exactly be used in this manner since dates are a bit off, but... it seems like a lot of the dates over on Paramount+ are off by a day. Not a clue if this is across everything on the service, but for a few examples:
- First 3 episodes of new iCarly series list June 16, 2021 - actually premiered June 17, 2021 [1]
- First 6 episodes of Kamp Koral: SpongeBob's Under Years list March 3, 2021 - actually premiered March 4, 2021 [2]
- Episodes of 2018 Double Dare are off by a day (S1E1 "The Juicy Pineapples vs. The Cavities" lists June 24, 2018, while it actually premiered June 25, 2018 --- S1E40 "Thunder & Lightning vs. The Slime Eaters" lists January 31, 2019, while it actually premiered February 1, 2019) [3]
- Henry Danger "Danger Things" lists October 7, 2018, actually premiered October 8, 2018 --- "Secret Room" lists March 1, 2019, actually premiered March 2, 2019 [4]
- And I'm sure there's plenty more I could list off like this. So lets just say this discussion has already taken place, and considering most dates appear to be off by a date before, we decided to go ahead and use P+ as a source. Here's what Paramount+ has for Salute Your Shorts:
- S1E1 "The First Day" - lists July 5, 1991, correct date would then be July 6, 1991 (see below for explanation on this one)
- S1E2 "The Ghost Story" - lists July 12, 1991, correct date would then be July 13, 1991
- S1E3 "Telly and Dina" - lists July 19, 1991, correct date would then be July 20, 1991
- S1E4 "Cheeseburgers in Paradise" - lists September 20, 1991, correct date would then be September 21, 1991
- S1E5 "Telly & The Basketball Team" lists October 4, 1991, correct date would then be October 5, 1991
- S2E1 "Budnick and Dina in Love - Part 1" lists July 10, 1992, correct date would then be July 11, 1992
- S2E2 "Citizen Pinsky" lists July 24, 1992, correct date would then be July 25, 1992
- S2E3 "The Wrath of Kahn, Jr." lists August 21, 1992, correct date would then be August 22, 1992
- S2E4 "They Call Me Ms. Tibbs" lists September 4, 1992, correct date would then be September 5, 1992
- S2E5 "Annawana Inc." lists September 11, 1992, correct date would then be September 12, 1992
- And I'm sure there's plenty more I could list off like this. So lets just say this discussion has already taken place, and considering most dates appear to be off by a date before, we decided to go ahead and use P+ as a source. Here's what Paramount+ has for Salute Your Shorts:
- In regards to this off-a-day thing giving the first episode the date July 6, 1991 rather than July 4 (supported by the sources found), I believe that is actually explained in the newspapers.com source- "The show was given a sneak preview Thursday; it begins its regular run – Saturdays at 4:30 p.m., Sundays at 10:30 a.m. – this weekend." - seems like July 4, 1991 was the sneak preview airing, but P+ lists the first airing after the sneak preview airing of it (For reference, July 4, 1991 was a Thursday, and July 6, 1991 was a Saturday).
- Unfortunately, this mostly seems to just confirm the airdates listed by other sources- those episodes are the only ones listed on P+, no clue on all the other episodes. Magitroopa (talk) 19:25, 18 June 2021 (UTC)
- Yes, and we always go with the "first aired" date, so July 4 is correct for the series premiere. It is unfortunate that P+ just confirms what iTunes/Amazon is already telling us. I would like to get the dates for the other episodes (esp. whatever was the season #2 premiere episode on June 26, 1992, and what were the last episodes aired in seasons #1 & #2 and when), but even IMDb is just repeating the incorrect TV Guide air dates, and my search of Newspapers.com only tells me what days the series aired, but not which episodes aired when. --IJBall (contribs • talk) 19:46, 18 June 2021 (UTC)
Note that the recent sourcing used for season #2 does not list episode titles either, so using it to source season #2 episode airdates almost certainly represents a WP:SYNTH (or WP:OR?...). --IJBall (contribs • talk) 17:45, 3 July 2021 (UTC)
- I fixed the airdates for Sponge Saga and First Day with a citation explaining that Sponge Saga was the premiere episode on July 4th and First Day aired on July 6th. Went through 6 months worth of rerun listings and figured out the Season 1 episode order - I'll obviously leave the airdates blank until I have something concrete as a source. Best I can guess, they took a break for a month or so starting in August, aired reruns in the normal Saturday slot for a month, and finished up new episodes around Halloween. That's the only way I can explain Telly and the Basketball Team having such a late airdate. Treasure of Sara Madre finishing up the season as a kind-of sort-of Halloween themed episode in late October would have made sense. Sponge Saga was originally supposed to air between Telly and the Basketball Team and Night at the Theatre, and it's very possible it did run again on October 12th - that would mean the season finished up with Treasure or Sara Madre airing Halloween Week on 10/26. If Sponge Saga didn't air on 10/12, season would have finished on 10/19.TheNewMinistry (talk) 03:32, 9 July 2021 (UTC)
- I can tell you are a stickler for accuracy just like me and I was curious to know where you got your rerun ordering from, because The Daily Herald in Provo, Utah shows a different rerun order than what's currently listed on this wiki article. If you look at Saturday issues starting from June 19, 1993 through August 21, 1993 (the Saturday issue details 'Children's Programming' for every day of the week with episode titles and synopses), you'll see that they aired Salute Your Shorts every Monday - Saturday at 3:30 PM (yes, 6 days a week) and through those entire months, they were cycling through both seasons in the same orders. (Curiously, Season 2 episodes were slightly out of order). This was the order they were airing Season 1: First Day, Ghost Story, Telly & Dina, The Clinic, Dina Loves Donkey Lips, Sponge Saga, Ug's Girlfriend Is Coming, Cheeseburgers in Paradise, Night at the Theatre, Telly and the Basketball Team, I Hate Camp, Treasure of Sara Madre, Z.Z. Saves the Planet. It appears that if using the Paramount Plus 'off-by-one' airdates, as well as the Amazon Prime 'off-by-one' airdate for Dina Loves Donkey Lips, the episodes did air in the order that The Daily Herald shows the reruns aired in, as all of the dates would line up if we assume that Nickelodeon aired reruns during all of August (except for the 3rd) and aired Sponge Saga in it's 'proper' week as well as being the sneak preview. This would mean that Z.Z. Saves the Planet would've aired on October 26, 2991. 73.145.121.162 (talk) 21:46, 28 March 2022 (UTC)
