Notability

[edit]

I've taken a look at the lists on this page and I am concerned that many, many of the people listed are not really notable enough for inclusion here. There doesn't seem to have been any criteria applied for this. The majority of people listed do not have Wikipedia articles. My concern is that without any clear criteria, the list could grow unmanageably. Taking a few examples:

  • "2463 Edward Howard Wallbridge Lambart, 1935, killed in action in 1943 in Italy during the Second World War."
How many other RMC grads were also killed in action? Is there anything else about this person that is notable?
  • "7786 Major (Ret) Douglas Matthews RRMC RMC, 1968, author, professor, businessperson: Pacific Show Productions:
How many other RMC grads have long and varied resumes? Again, is there anything specifically notable about this person?

As it stands, I figure that any RMC grad could sit down with their yearbook and Google and then systematically enter 90% of their classmates onto this list. I'm not convinced that is encyclopedic. Similar comments could be made about the list of professors. My suggestion is that if a person isn't notable enough to have an article, they aren't notable enough to be listed here. (I'm not saying that none of the people listed who don't have articles are not notable - but if they are, then articles, even stubs, need to be created for them.) I'm interested in hearing what others have to say on this, before I start pruning. - Eron Talk 13:42, 20 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I had the same thought when I saw the list of Grads. I support pruning 100%.J Costello 01:17, 21 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Right then, here goes. I'm going to all listed persons who do not have Wikipedia articles. If they are notable enough for the list, they should be notable enough to have an article. If anyone believes that I have removed someone who is notable... well, feel free to create an article on them and put them back in the list. - Eron Talk 01:32, 29 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

On this point, I think that the intro paragraph should be fleshed out a bit more so that it is clear what "notability" is in the context of the list. If this is cleared up, that would make the list easier to prune and add people who may have been forgotten.BC 20:36, 15 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Let me see...We've taken out some RMC grads off the notable list, but yet, we keep Myriam Bedard in the notable honorary list...A convicted child abductor...Wow! That makes a lot of sense! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 198.103.184.76 (talk) 12:50, 22 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Myriam Bedard is certainly notable (for good and bad) so I don't see why she shouldn't be on the list. The point originally raised by EronMain was "I'm not saying that none of the people listed who don't have articles are not notable - but if they are, then articles, even stubs, need to be created for them." I agreed, if they're notable enough for the list, they're notable for their own article. Otherwise this list will just be a full list of graduates and that wouldn't make much sense. Be advised that I will once again be going through the article and purging the non-notable graduates according to the above criteria. Namely, those without their own wikipage are up for removal.J Costello (talk) 23:47, 17 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

To add to this discussion, I cannot find information on Alex Dumas being the CEO of Quebecor. I recommend his information be validated here or deleted. — Preceding unsigned comment added by TenorCumulus (talkcontribs) 06:58, 31 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Problems with tables

[edit]

Some of the information in the tables is incorrect, specifically the Commandants table. Andrew647 18:12, 5 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Books and RMC Club

[edit]

Are the listed books references or further reading or what? If they are references, they should be put in the references section; if something else, the section should be re-titled. Also, I think there should be an explanation as to what the RMC Club is so that the context of the section is clear.BC 20:36, 15 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Article title

[edit]

The present title sounds awkward and doesn't really introduce what the article is about, which is "notability". I propose: "Notable people associated with the Royal Military College of Canada" or something similar that is a bit shorter. BC 04:27, 16 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:GoddardG&Mail.jpg

[edit]

Image:GoddardG&Mail.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

The image Image:GeorgePearkes.jpg is used in this article under a claim of fair use, but it does not have an adequate explanation for why it meets the requirements for such images when used here. In particular, for each page the image is used on, it must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for the use in this article.
  • That this article is linked to from the image description page.

Superintendent Leif Newry Fitzroy Crozier

[edit]

Note as to why Superintendent Leif Newry Fitzroy Crozier was removed. Despite the reference to attending RMC contained in the first reference in his article, it isn't possible. The reference says he attended RMC and then later joined the NWMP in 1874. The wiki-article says he joined the police in 1873. RMC did not start accepting students until 1876 so it is highly unlikely he was ever a student.J Costello (talk) 16:04, 8 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
