fort thunder
[edit]Shouldn't forcefield in art collective be "Fort thunder"? Also, Brian Chippendale is called the founder, but he's only the co-founder alongside Brinkman --me (talk) 21:52, 21 August 2011 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.96.95.65 (talk)
Awful lot of redlinks
[edit]Consider making articles for those individuals without them or at least tying them into a major position at a major company: i.e. "Past-CEO of IBM". --Bobak (talk) 21:52, 30 October 2009 (UTC)
Order
[edit]Should the entries in each section be sorted alphabetically? Or possibly chronologically by graduation year? ~ Quacks Like a Duck (talk) 13:43, 31 August 2010 (UTC)
- I just checked the Brown and Harvard lists, and they are sorted alphabetically, not chronologically by graduation year. There are a number of notable RISD grads and professors and presidents not on this list primarily because noone remembers them. I'm trying to come up with a list. Doc2234 (talk) 00:21, 2 September 2010 (UTC)
Redlinks
[edit]A list article like this should only have people who have articles of their own per WP:REDDEAL. All of the redlinks should be deleted; I'll do it in a few days unless someone has a reason I shouldn't. --JaGatalk 01:54, 14 December 2010 (UTC)
- I have not checked all of the redlinks, but I know that there are redlinked people who are notable in accordance with Wikipedia standards in the list. It's a matter of having an advocate who can spend the time to put together an article. Deleting the redlinks cleans up the page, however, once a notable name is out of sight, it will be just that much harder to have someone, who might see the name and be willing to create even a stub, take positive action. It's a dilemma. Possibly quick searches for sources could reduce the quantity of redlinks and maintain the easily notable redlinked subjects in live view. Doc2234 (talk) 03:36, 16 December 2010 (UTC)
- Well, is there a project we could move the redlinks to, make some sort of to-do list subpage? I am a big believer in redlinks promoting article creation, but in the context of a list like this, it so easily becomes a catch-all for anyone who went to the school. --JaGatalk 04:59, 16 December 2010 (UTC)
- Could we possibly list them here on this talk page? The list would then be easily and logically accessible to people who read the Article page. I also plan to insert a brief call for help from the RISD community in "RISDxyz" magazine or something similar, and ask the Wikipedia:Campus Ambassadors for assistance. The Campuas Ambassadors do not currently have an art school in their program, and it may be possible for the RISD community to work on specific elements related to graphics and photography in Wikipedia. Doc2234 (talk) 11:09, 17 December 2010 (UTC)
- That sounds like a fine idea. I'll start moving over redlinks some time today. --JaGatalk 17:22, 17 December 2010 (UTC)
- OK, I got dragged into other things, but this is still on my radar. --JaGatalk 18:16, 18 December 2010 (UTC)

Multiple Credits
[edit]Seth MacFarlane appears twice in the RISD Alumni, as an animator and as a TV/Film talent. Is this intended (i.e.: someone who has a notable career in two categories gets listed twice?) 75.141.15.56 (talk) 03:16, 7 June 2014 (UTC)

Change of style of the list, RISD majors and citations
[edit]There is a debate discussion happening on a talk page that I am moving here, in case someone else wants to chime in. Historically this WP article has had citations with embedded details about the major of the person that is a RISD alumni. Some of this information was deleted recently by a user, on the basis they don't see that in other alumni lists. However we started using citations and major details because there were issues with wrong information being added to this list regarding alumni status (or no citation in the main article regarding RISD). Does anyone have opinions on this? Please discuss here. Related to Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Lists, WP:SOURCELIST. Jooojay (talk) 10:03, 1 May 2021 (UTC)
- One example of this issue is the inclusion of John Miller (American artist) - his Wikipedia article does not have any citations supporting he attended the school and/or is alumni. Then he was attempted to be added to this list without a citation as well. Jooojay (talk) 10:22, 1 May 2021 (UTC)
- @Jooojay: The conflation of citations and majors is absurd. Citations should of course be included; it is illogical to think that the verifiability of someone's status as an alumni is in any way contingent on the statement of their major in the article. Furthermore, it would be responsible to recuse yourself from Rhode Island School of Design related articles given your connections to the institution. Filetime (talk) 07:13, 2 May 2021 (UTC)
- @Jooojay: As for your other comment, if the lack of citations of certain items concerns you, you could simply add them. The most cursory search reveals Miller's Barnard faculty profile which references his education.[1] This is an easy problem to fix; if it bothers you that much you could spend less time complaining on the talk page and more time fixing it. Filetime (talk) 07:18, 2 May 2021 (UTC)

- @Filetime: I have not been "complaining on the talk page" - but rather asking the community since this has been the existing style of the talk page prior to you even editing here. There are over 100 citations already used here. When someone decides to change an existing style to an article, typically we have a discussion on the talk page. I notice I have left messages about this one your own talk page since 2020 but have received zero response. Please refrain from making this personal. I am not personally connected to this.
