Oldest player in Olympic ice hockey history
[edit]The claim that Max Sillig is the oldest player in Olympic ice hockey history is contradicted by all available online sources.
- Guinness World Records
- sports-reference.com
- when Chris Chelios was to play at age 44, the IIHF wrote here that he would become the third oldest after Bela Ordody and Alfred Steinke who were 48 when they played in 1928. Omitting 46 year old Sillig shows the unreliability of the IIHF.
It's possible that the Andrew Podnieks 2011 IIHF Media Guide & Record Book reference may be taken out of context, but unfortunately it is not available online for review. In 1920 (and until the 1928 Olympics), Sillig was the oldest player in Olympic ice hockey history, but that's not very significant. By being the oldest player at the first Olympic ice hockey competition all but assured that he would be the first born of all Olympic ice hockey players, but that too is fairly trivial. In either case the wording is incorrect or misleading at best and I believe should be removed. 76.70.45.246 (talk) 04:22, 2 September 2013 (UTC)
- Fair points all. Since it's too ambiguous I'll take it out. Thanks for clarifying. Anthony (talk) 13:12, 2 September 2013 (UTC)
Accuracy of statistics
[edit]Many of the statistics provided on this page are contradicted by the sports-reference.com links provided for most of the linked players. It would be ideal if the IIHF could provide accurate information, however some of the IIHF statistics don't pass simple sanity tests; e.g. Bruno Leuzinger played in two Olympics while only playing in one game. 76.70.45.246 (talk) 06:21, 2 September 2013 (UTC)
- I think the issue we face here is that either source is just as likely to have a typo as the other. I do agree, however, for someone who appeared in two Olympics, it makes sense to have appeared in at least two games. Rejectwater (talk) 13:34, 2 September 2013 (UTC)
