Open events
[edit]Have any women got a medal in the open events? Mobile mundo (talk) 18:24, 16 August 2016 (UTC)
- Yes the Olympics first ever female Olympic medalist was a sailor Hélène de Pourtalès in an open event. Since the use of dinghies female sailors have not medaled and in fact rarely been competitive enough to take part in an open fleet notable exception are the 4th place Trine Elvstrøm-Myralf in 1980 when crewing for her father Paul Elvstrom. Notable attempts as helm were Cathy Foster (GBR) in the 1980s and Carolijn Brouwer in the 2000s. Yachty4000 (talk) 14:45, 31 August 2021 (UTC)
Discipline
[edit]I really don't like this page it is factually incorrect sailing only made up a few discipline titles to keep the IOC happy and change them so regarurly a table cannot be drawn up.
Sailing events are structured using the following criteria and this should have been the basis of this page. Maybe each infobox should have been a class.
Equipment Class Gender Open, Male, Male/Mixed, Female, Mixed Discipline Fleet, Match, Fleet/Match
