Why was this edit made? It says "per discussion consensus", but I don't see the discussion. − Twas Now ( talkcontribse-mail ) 17:04, 11 February 2008 (UTC)

No idea why it was done, but I spent the last 10 minutes fixing it and making it go back to standard. Kaiser matias (talk) 03:02, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
Consensus was regarding Ireland vs Northern Ireland. Wasnt sure what the "standard" was, but organized according to the table at the bottom. Doesnt matter to me how it is.Grsz11 (talk) 05:02, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

I see what you mean. If I follow what your saying, you used the players origin chart at the bottom. Just to clarify the situation for you, that chart only lists the nationalities of the players in the NHL from that specific season. The actual list is ordered according to career point total. Hope this helps you understand. Kaiser matias (talk) 06:20, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

If you mean the country's total points, Venezuela is more than the next couple above it Grsz11 (talk) 06:54, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
Ah, I see...the highest player's career total points are used to order the list...confusing Grsz11 (talk) 06:57, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

Players' origins

Where was the information obtained for the "Players' origins" section? This will need to be updated to figures from the 2007-08 season pretty soon. − Twas Now ( talkcontribse-mail ) 13:05, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

French Canadian players list added

I added a list of French Canadian players, which I believe is relevant. For the sake of reciprocity, it might be advisable to also add a list of English Canadian players. I am not, however, well versed enough in English Canadian players to make such a list. Someone with good knowledge of such players could make it (the list would be similar to the list of Canadian players, since Raymond Bourque, Marcel Dionne and Mario Lemieux are the only French Canadians to make the overall list). Pierreboro (Pierreboro) 15:39, 4 April 2008 (UTC)

As interesting as that would be, it doesn't exactly work on this article. The article details scoring leaders by country, not by ethnicity. Making a group for French-Canadians is also POV, and leads to the issues of whether or not to include English-Canadians, German-Canadians, Russian-Canadians, Japanese-Canadians, etc. It just doesn't work here. Kaiser matias (talk) 07:34, 5 April 2008 (UTC)

Defencemen

I think players who spent most of their careers as defencemen should have a (D) added, so their point totals can be put into proper perspective. 169.229.140.70 (talk) 23:41, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

Tomas Sandstrom

Tomas Sandstrom may have been born in Finland, but he is a Swede. He has played for the Swedish national team (world championships 1987, where the team took the gold, among other tournaments). He has not played for Finland. He should be moved to the Swedish contingent (knocking out Mats Naslund), and another Finn should be moved up to 10th position for Finland. LarRan (talk) 09:52, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

You are correct that he is a Swede, but this list is based on the place of birth. Peter Bondra is listed under the Ukraine, although he was a Slovak national. − Twas Now ( talkcontribse-mail ) 13:41, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
Ok, I saw that in the lead section. Seems to be a weird way of categorizing players, but as long as it is consistent... LarRan (talk) 17:38, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
Yes, it's kind of weird. The problem with arranging by 'acquired nationality' is that many players may cause protests and controversy. Brett Hull, for example, has 108 more career points than Mike Modano, but should he be included as the top scorer from the United States? The place of birth, on the other hand, is not debatable, and that keeps us from having to make contentious judgements. − Twas Now ( talkcontribse-mail )

Minimum

Just to clarify, for the smaller countries with only a few NHLers, what is the minimum to make the list? Is it one game played, or one point? Jc121383 (talk) 22:34, 14 July 2008 (UTC)

One point. — Twas Now ( talkcontribse-mail ) 22:44, 22 January 2009 (UTC)

Regular season vs. playoffs

Even though it is not noted anywhere, I take it this list only includes statistics achieved in the regular season?

I pose such a question because I noted Danish-born Jannik Hansen of Vancouver has no regular season points in five games (that's another question) but he does have points, or a point as it were, from the playoffs. How, if any way, should that be noted? Jc121383 (talk) 22:55, 14 July 2008 (UTC)

To answer both of your questions, the minimun is at least 1 point, I believe. And as far as I know, there is no corresponding list for the playoffs, but it probably wouldn't hurt to make the list. Kaiser matias (talk) 02:13, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
Jannik Hansen should be added anyway because he has seven points so far this season for Vancouver. Then again, perhaps we should wait until the end of the season. 70.67.181.196 (talk) 22:11, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
Leave the updates until the end of the season. It just becomes a huge mess if people are trying to update after every game. Kaiser matias (talk) 22:26, 14 November 2008 (UTC)

The Bahamas

How awesome is that there is a NHL point-scorer from Bahamas now. Too bad no one who sees this page would know it. We won't get to follow Andre Deveaux breaking Jan Benda's record to put Bahamas in front of Belgium. Homer saves presidents (talk) 19:52, 22 January 2009 (UTC)

Updating players' new teams

People, who cares if someone has added Vancouver Canucks to Mats Sundin's teams? The point of the "don't update midseason" rule is to avoid confusing edits after every game day, not to prevent once-a-season occurrences like a new team. This applies to other articles, too, but the Sundin thing is the one I have noticed most this year. — Twas Now ( talkcontribse-mail ) 05:07, 2 February 2009 (UTC)

The only problem with it is that it implies that the players points total includes points from all of the teams that player has played with, when, in fact, it's not factual. Jc121383 (talk) 05:13, 2 February 2009 (UTC)
That doesn't matter. Have we checked that each player on this list actually scored a point with each team listed next to their name? — Twas Now ( talkcontribse-mail ) 05:15, 2 February 2009 (UTC)
They all have, yes. That's the point. Jc121383 (talk) 05:17, 2 February 2009 (UTC)
e.g. Rumun Ndur didn't score a point with Buffalo. — Twas Now ( talkcontribse-mail ) 05:19, 2 February 2009 (UTC)
You're right. I'm thinking the title of the page and all stats, not just points. I was confused. I suppose that shouldn't be listed for him then. The way I see it is: if you can't add new players to the list, as it would violate the game-by-game updating rule, how can you justify adding an existing player's new team? It would be an incomplete update. Jc121383 (talk) 05:26, 2 February 2009 (UTC)
I don't think we should be updating it or anything, but constantly reverting it is futile. Virtually all of these people don't know about the hockey wikiproject and its little rules. They come to this page, see outdated info, and fix it. Reverting changes to points, fine—someone might update only one player's stats and bump him above another player who has also scored enough to hold their position on the list—but reverting things as simple and immutable as what team a player has skated for, that's silly. — Twas Now ( talkcontribse-mail ) 05:43, 2 February 2009 (UTC)
Sammy McManus didn't score a point with Boston, etc. — Twas Now ( talkcontribse-mail ) 05:22, 2 February 2009 (UTC)
I would keep the players teams updated, even if they haven't scored a point with that team. I would presume the constant updating would not be a factor there; it is directed at statistical updates. Something like what team the player is with is important enough to include, and should be updated. Kaiser matias (talk) 07:06, 2 February 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, I think VAN should definitely be there. Teams don't change every two days like statistics do. RandySavageFTW (talk) 22:28, 2 February 2009 (UTC)
I agree that new teams should be added for players mid-season. It is futile, if it wasn't there wouldn't be a single edit during the season. Also I believe that players that would be new to the list should be added mid-season. For example Andre Deveaux put Bahamas on the list of point scorers this season. It's just making more work for the off-season edits. We don't get to follow his quest to pass Jan Benda's record to put Bahamas in front of Belgium.Homer saves presidents (talk) 03:29, 4 February 2009 (UTC)

Source

This application from NHL.com can sort by country and gives this seasons statistics. Could for getting new players for shorter list countries as well as the country of origin table at the bottom. Grsz11 19:49, 13 April 2009 (UTC)

The link doesn't seem to work, it just brings you to the NHL.com homepage. Maybe you could list the links you need to follow from NHL.com to get to the app? — Twas Now ( talkcontribse-mail ) 20:22, 13 April 2009 (UTC)
Try this one. Grsz11 16:43, 14 April 2009 (UTC)
