For the Chris Gratton deal, should the compensation be listed as four 1st-round picks, or should it be listed as Mikael Renberg and Karl Dykhuis?
Effectively, the two players were the compensation, since the four first-round picks were immediately traded back for those two players. But technically, it would be four first-round picks.
RandSherm 06:19, 4 August 2007 (UTC) I changed it to the picks from Renberg Dykhuis because all recaps I've read are that Tampa accepted the picks and then just traded them back to Philly. From the point of view of an offer sheet, the picks are the compensation. I think restricting it to the actual "technical" compensation is a good policy for this table and can avoid some problems. For example, the Oilers did not really receive Greg Adams as compensation for Geoff Courtnall. This should be clear since Adams was a Capital and the Rangers were signing the offer sheet, which was actually matched. If a team trades one pick to one team and another pick to another, obviously it gets even messier.
RandSherm 06:19, 4 August 2007 (UTC) The report of the Brett Hauer offer sheet is interesting. I can find many articles (CBC, AP, etc.) related to the Ryan Kesler offer sheet saying the '99 Hauer signing (matched) was the last one. However I cannot find a more original source.
