@Hans404 and Gial Ackbar: recently reverted my edits on this article and at MLP:FIM (season 9) where I removed the listing of Best Gift Ever as an episode, stating the tweet was "from Jim Miller, director for multiple seasons". While Miller is a director for many seasons, his account is not verified and, therefore, can not be used as a source per WP:SOCIALMEDIA. Unless a reliable source confirms the account is Miller's, his account is unusable as a source. Even if it was authenticated, I wouldn't be convinced he considers BGE an episode. His tweet states: "Not if you count BGE as an episode!" (emphasis mine). "If" is defined as "in the event that" or "allowing that" or "on the assumption that" or "on condition that". To me, all these definitions imply doubt and do not confirm Miller considers the special an episode. Pamzeis (talk) 14:13, 25 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I would be fine with either way, as long as it is consitent. As I wortoe in the edit summary when reverting, I did the revert because Hans404 revertied it in the other place. Reveritng it only at one place made the same episode number appear twice. By the way WP:SOCIALMEDIA does not state that the account needs to be officially verified, just that "there is no reasonable doubt as to its authenticity". As that account posted as Jim Miller for many years, I do not think there is any reasonable doubt that it is in fact Jim Miller. That leave the main point that the post involes the word "if". I think that "if" is enough reason not to count it as a numberd episode, therefore I would be fine with removing the episode number, as long as it stays constent in both places. My reversion was mainly due to the complete removal of the content. Best Gift Ever is definitely part of the MLP:FiM lexicon, so it should be included in some sense. If there's discussion to be had about its classification of episode vs special vs something else, that's perfectly fine. My rationale for its current placement is that it was billed as a special episode, rather than a movie (unlike the Movie and Rainbow Roadtrip), and the Supervising Director (Jim Miller) considers it as such.
Jim's tweet, taken in context, clarifies the placement of Episode 200 (Sparkle's Seven), and thus every episode before it should total 199. Not counting BGE as an episode puts Episode 200 as #199 in order, hence Jim's response of Episode 200 being such "if you count BGE as an episode".
If you have still have issues with that, and/or would prefer BGE to be listed as a Movie rather than a Special, we can have that discussion to hammer out specifics. As the two "movies" were handled by outside production houses, and BGE was handled "in-house", I still lean toward it being an episode. Hans404 (talk) 16:38, 25 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I don't really have that much of a problem with listing it as an episode but I'd like to note "special" is defined as "something (such as a television program) that is not part of a regular series". I will point out that a lot of sources say the series has 221 episodes (e.g. Deadline, The Hollywood Reporter, Polygon and even Discovery itself) as opposed to 222 (Screen Rant (a marginally reliable source) and The Herald). Those TBA's can't stay on like that any longer, since the clip shows probably won't ever get released in the US anyways. I want to see something other than "TBA" or "TBD" on all six clip shows. Jonghyunchung (talk) 01:15, 19 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
