Literal Title Translation Notes

[edit]
Copied from Talk:List of Mobile Suit Gundam Double Zeta episodes

Hello, I created the initial version of this list. I have about five-years of straight-A college level Japanese, but sometimes I might not pick something quite right, so discuss any changes that might need to be made. There are some specific notes I would like to make though on some of the titles:

Episode 12: リィナが消えた -- This is the past-tense form of the verb, so "Leina Disappeared" is really the proper translation. It doesn't mean she is disappearing now, it means she already disappeared.

Episode 24: 咲く兄弟愛 - The verb modifies the noun in this case, so it refers to "blooming love"

Episode 32: 塩の湖を越えて - I translated this as "passing" the Salt Lake, but I could see it as "Beyond" as I have seen in some translations.

Episode 36: 重力下のプルツー - 重力 is gravity, and the relation is between Ple Two and Under, so I think this means "Under the Influence" of gravity, but I didn't really think of a good way to convey that. I've seen this one as "Ple Two's Descent" but it's referring specifically to gravity I think because of the whole soul/gravity concept that is covered at times in Gundam.

Episode 44: エマリー散華 - Sangei refers to the warrior dying a noble death, which fits this episode (falling like flowers). I note that the same word is used in Episode 10 of Gundam Wing when Heero "dies".

Episode 2 & 42/43: シャングリラの少年, コア3の少女 - I specifically said "boys" and "girls" in this episode because these episodes provide counterpoint to each other. The first episode is about the Boys on Shangri-La (Judau, Beecha, Mondo) and the Core 3 episodes cover the Girls who have been kidnapped. I believe these titles are both meant to be plural.

Other than those notes, nothing really jumped out at me in translating the titles. JoeD80 (talk) 00:58, 1 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
