Lead

[edit]

Hi Chiswick Chap. How do you feel about taking on the lead? I do not know how much you know about FLC, but reviewers would expect something similar to Herts and Middlesex Wildlife Trust. Starting "This is a list" is forbidden. I will have a go if you do not wish to. Dudley Miles (talk) 21:33, 25 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Chiswick Chap. I think the article is nearly ready for FLC. There are photos and articles for all sites apart from Old Ford Island. I have phoned the LWT about this, and I was told that access is difficult, but I have been put on the list for the next work party, which should be in the next six weeks. The lead needs another paragraph. Reviewers like to see some information about significant sites, such as the largest, smallest and oldest. Dudley Miles (talk) 11:12, 23 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps the new paragraph will serve. I may add a sentence or two from Mathew Frith's account in Sands. Chiswick Chap (talk) 16:02, 24 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Fine. Once I can get photos of Old Ford Island we can submit it to FLC. Dudley Miles (talk) 18:33, 24 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

GiGL

[edit]

GiGL is the official database for London Sites of Importance for Nature Conservation. The SINC database was the Mayor of London's Wildweb, but this was taken down in December 2012. I complained on a number of occasions, and was finally told in spring 2014 that the database had been transferred to GiGL. It is now at [1]. Wildweb had a listing for each borough, similar to Natural England's listing of LNRs in each county, but this is no longer provided. GiGL provides all sorts of sophisticated methods of searching, but many sites are missing or listed briefly with no details of their SINC status. I created a table of Barnet SINCs using the Wildweb database (which was recently Today's Featured List), but no one could do this for other boroughs as the information is no longer available. Dudley Miles (talk) 19:32, 24 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Whatever. Its function is as a database of wildlife observations, so I expect it had SINCs as a by-product to facilitate recording. They can't ever have been its primary function, but as this isn't a forum we are straying off-topic. Chiswick Chap (talk) 20:34, 24 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
