Sorting

@Another Believer - While I can understand your edit, I cannot find anything established to support that approach and it makes the list appear to be semi-unsorted. Sorting the way you have done makes it presume that views know which people are using stage names versus real names. Perhaps alpha sorting by first name/word would be more appropriate in this instance? TiggerJay (talk) 00:53, 10 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I understand your concern, but I don't have a problem with sorting people by last name and subjects using a stage name alphabetically. I'm not sure what else to say but people don't refer to "Flawless Shade" as "Shade" or "Nicole Onoscopi" as "Onoscopi". ---Another Believer _(Talk) 01:12, 10 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

While I can see that it is "sometimes" applied within the LGBT articles, it does not seem to be consistent with any other uses of STAGENAME within WP. Even with a LTGB specific list such as List of LGBTQ people from New York City we find the stage name Lady Gaga listed under G. The same is true for List of actors with Academy Award nominations and Honorific nicknames in popular music. And as with your example of "Shade" above, few people simply refer to "Gaga" in isolation. If we look at List of stage names the specific "surname" or presumed "surname" is the sort criteria, this also is true over at List of members of the AVN Hall of Fame. Moving outside of this, the same is true for pseudonym like Le Corbusier, who is always listed under "C". These are consistent with MOS:SORTLIST. There are some very specific situations where this use of a presumed surname sort order is not applied, but those are more universally supported, and the concept of stage/pseudonym/nickname/etc does not impact sort order.
