Legendary performances

[edit]

This section needs clear referencing to identify who assessed these performances as better than any of her other performances. However, if it is simply a list of her stage performances, then it simply needs the section name changed. Garrie 23:42, 25 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

JG gave thousands of live performances over her career and to list them all would be useless , there is a good run down of them in a Day to Day Chronicle of her career - but what this list within this article highlights are those handfull of comcerts that were "legendary" or that stood out having impact on her style and further appearances. I have added references for 2 of them; the Dublin Concert was significant because of the numbers it attracted and the fact that she sang to the public from her window - The Edinburgh concerts were equally emotional for her - these local concerts in Ireland and Scotland were added to her tour to enable her to perfect her show before taking it to New York. The reception she received in these then "remote" places helped build her confidence. The 1st Palace Run was significant because it bought her back to the USA after her European tour and was her first live "Triumph" in America after being fired by MGM ,demonstrating to MGM and to the public that there was alot more to Judy Garland than a film career and she by no means was "washed-up". The entire 1951 tour that took in London, Edinburgh, Dublin, Manchester and Birmingham was her most significant as it was her first tour as a singer and it did established her concert style for the rest of her life. Details of this tour are well documented in several biographies. 86.12.255.180 09:39, 8 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Stage

[edit]

"While Garland never appeared on stage as part of any professional theater production..." pretty much says it all. This is a list of performances. It is not a list of times Judy thought about performing but didn't, or a list of things Judy was considered for but wasn't given, or a list of things that Jerry Herman would have liked Judy to do. The inclusion criterion for this list is simple. Did Judy perform? If the answer to that question is "yes" then put it on the list. If the answer is "no" then it does not belong here. • Keep - The information is still relevant and documented. Her hope of being cast in "Mame" was noted in John Fricke's and Lorna Luft's biography of her mother. She conquered film, radio and television, but not stage, which is interesting to note. The information on "Mame" should definitely be kept in the article. I have come across in a published book on the history of Broadway the reference to Garland and "Funny Girl" but I would have to go back and relocate that book to find the documentation on it. --Ozgod (talk) 20:00, 5 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • This is not an AFD. Whether or not it is documented that Jerry Herman thought Judy would make a wonderful Mame or that someone suggested she play Fanny Brice is irrelevant. This is a list of Judy Garland performances. Judy Garland did not perform in Mame. Judy Garland did not perform in Funny Girl. Judy Garland did not perform in South Pacific. Had she set foot on a stage for a single performance or even gone through the rehearsal process for any of them, then fine, there would be some cause for including them. She didn't. Not performances, not aborted or unfinished performances, shouldn't be on a list of performances. Otto4711 (talk) 22:19, 5 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Works other than her films which her career was originally formed on. She is known as a film actress and her ventures in radio, television and concerts are all secondary to her primary career - thus "Other Works." --Ozgod (talk) 02:38, 6 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
She started in vaudeville and was known in radio before she was ever known as a film actress. If there are reliable sources for particularly significant radio performances then a radio section could be added but "other works" still makes no sense as a title.
