Should the heading be "List of Japanese POW camps", as some of their camps are in what is now China or Indonesia

Civilian internees

As many of these camps held civilian internees as well, should the title be changed to the (admittedly cumbersome) 'List of Japanese POW and civilian internee camps during World War II'? The Wikipedia page on POW camps is quite clear that civilians are not included in the definition of POWs. Or should we start another list page: 'List of Japanese civilian internee camps during World War II'? This will mean a lot of repetition and possible confusion though Jasper33 18:49, 2 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think it would be better to go with the title of the main article, which is internment. That article makes mention of "internment camps" and "concentration camps". It is true that not all of the camps in this article were POW camps, many camps contained civilians. As is indicated in the lead section of the article, this list doesn't just cover POW camps, but also civilian camps and mixed POW-civilian camps. For this reason, the title of the list doesn't cover the content of the list. The proposed title does cover the content. Comment. Is there any way to rephrase this so that it's clear that the holder of the camp was Japan, as opposed to its occupants? When first seeing this title, I thought it referred to something completely different, which doesn't even reference this page, and it seems like the move would make things even more ambiguous. Thanks Dekimasu for pointing out the ambiguity - it hadn't really occurred to me. How about this page becomes something like List of Japanese-run internment camps during World War II? I would also suggest that Japanese internment camps is re-titled, as it is also very ambiguous - perhaps to something like North American internment camps for Japanese people during World War II. But of course we'll have to have that discussion on the relevant talk page Jasper33 20:16, 3 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Right now Japanese internment camps is a disambig page, and as a disambig page, I think its name is fine, it just needs to add this article as an item for it to be disambiguated. As for the naming of this article itself, I don't think we need "World War II" in the title - did Japan run any internment camps during any other wars? Or at least did so notably? Japanese Internment camps in British Columbia, Canada during World War ll

There seems to be no information available regarding the internment of the Canadian Japanese by the Canadian Government during World War II. The Canadian Japanese were taken from their homes, had all their belongings and properties seized and were interned in sub-standard camps for the duration of the war. David Suzuki was one of the children raised in an internment camp. Camps in Japan: many Wikilinks are not to articles on camps

The Fukuoka 17 article is a good one, but the three other wikilinks I’ve clicked on are not to articles on the camps themselves but to towns (and in one case a person). The result is that if someone finds this article and wants to click through to an article on a POW camp in Japan, the chances are that they won’t be able to. They’ll waste their time and be fed up about that. That’s not good and is not a good look for Wikipedia. I recommend that all wikilinks to non-camp articles be removed. Anyone disagree?
