Controversial edit

[edit]

The CSO stats on County Clare list it as 3,450 km2, larger than Tyrone and surpassing it as 7th largest county. I'm aware that this edit may be controversial so does anyone have official statistics in area for Northern Ireland? --Ire2500 (talk) 17:15, 12 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

This: Whitakers Concise Almanack 1999 (131 ed.). London: The Stationery Office. 1998. p. 568. ISBN 011702242X. has the areas of the NI counties, but in square miles, and excluding inland watera and tideways. For the record they were:
  • Antrim 1,091 square miles (2,830 km2)
  • Armagh 484 square miles (1,250 km2)
  • Belfast City 25 square miles (65 km2)
  • Down 945 square miles (2,450 km2)
  • Fermanagh 647 square miles (1,680 km2)
  • Derry 798 square miles (2,070 km2)
  • Londonderry City (Derry on Wikipedia) 3.4 square miles (8.8 km2)
  • Tyrone 1,211 square miles (3,140 km2)

I notice they all seem smaller than in the article... would that be the water? Lozleader (talk) 18:41, 12 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It could be the water, its possible for all counties except Fermanagh which shrinks by 11 km2. But Lough Erne is entirely within it and it's larger than 110 km2. --Ire2500 (talk) 10:04, 14 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The Irish Almanac & Yearbook of Facts 1999. Artcam Ireland. 1998. ISBN 0952959631. (there doesn't seem to have been one published since) has the same area figures and also ranks the counties by area, Tyrone at No.8, Clare at No.7 Lozleader (talk) 12:38, 14 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

There are no refs for the Northern Irish counties, but all county areas in ROI can be found in the CSO link. --TheEditor888 22:27, 1 July 2011 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Eoghan888 (talkcontribs)

Change the name of the county "LONDONDERRY" to "LONDONDERRY/DERRY" OR "DERRY" to reflect how this county is known and to avoid misleading your readers.

This page gives the names of counties in Ireland. LONDONDERRY does not reflect the name of this county accurately for the people living there, for the people of Ireland or for the Irish diaspora. This county is known as DERRY. I would expect wikipedia to at least include DERRY in the name. 149.50.161.97 (talk) 08:07, 27 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
