Page move and other...
[edit]Why was this page moved from "cuisine" to "dishes" when cleary the scope of the article is more than dishes? eg, fruits are not a "dish" nor is "krupuk". Also, why the need for a table? I don't think it helps. Keep it simple - a list is a list. Not a table with pictures. --Merbabu (talk) 13:09, 7 May 2009 (UTC)
- See other "list of regional cuisine" articles. I've been working on list articles of national cuisines. There is List of Jewish cuisine dishes or List of French dishes, no List of XX cuisine except this one. The former title implies that it deals with regional or provincial cuisine of Indonesia, such as Beijing cuisine, Cantonese cuisine in Chinese cuisine. Moreover, why did you remove all the improvement? You may well know Indonesian foods, but lists should exist for readers who know or does not know the cuisine at all. I don't read Indonesian language, so do many of readers. Just a mere list of foods does not effectively demonstrate which dish is which. If you do not agree with me or you can not persuade with good rationale, we can patch 3rd editors from WP:FOOD or request for comment. RfC.--Caspian blue 21:59, 7 May 2009 (UTC)
- Moreover, such too simple list with no reference can easily end up to be deleted by AfD. I recommend you to look at "Featured lists". Almost of them are in a form of table.--Caspian blue 22:10, 7 May 2009 (UTC)
Perhaps a better approach might be to explain your changes or intentions at the indonesian project board (link above). Or at least notify them. The project is very wary of lists - we spend a lit of time cleaning up unreferenced lists of red links.
I don't understand why "dishes" is better than "cuisine". Cuisine is a much broader descriptor - again, how does fruit or drinks fit into the term "dishes"? --Merbabu (talk) 22:50, 7 May 2009 (UTC)
- My goal is to make readers more accessible to unfamiliar foods and to make the article look professional. You seem to be working for "Indonesian projects", but the list with no image, and insufficient information just give readers "puzzled". Moreover, the matter is not only concerning "Indonesian projects". The format of the naming was decided by coordinators of "Wikiproject Food and drink" who have backgrounds as chef or gastronomists. Fruits and other ingredients can be grouped as "ingredients" to make such dishes. --Caspian blue 23:12, 7 May 2009 (UTC)
- Can I lend my 2¢? In the grouping of food and drink areas "cuisine" refers to the cultural context that food and drink plays in the society it refers. Cuisine articles contain such data as the cultural history of the foods eaten in the society, etiquette, beliefs and other information beyond the dishes themselves. "Dishes" refer to the meals themselves, including raw and or unprepared foods such as fruit, beverages and other such items.
- In Food and Drink articles the individual dishes are just a single aspect of the XXX cuisine and are usually treated as a list that is referred to in the main XXX cuisine article. Individual dishes are then linked in the list. A good example of this is the Korean cuisine article and its child lists List of Korean dishes and List of Korean beverages.
- Caspian's example of the Chinese cuisine articles is a good example as why we name lists of dishes as such. It helps avoid confusion and ambiguity. --Jeremy (blah blah) 05:08, 8 May 2009 (UTC)
Region
[edit]Excuse me, some of the dishes' region stated as from "Indonesia", here I replace it with term nationwide. But it is little bit confusing because the origin is particular but stated as nationwide (Indonesia). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 02Wahyudi (talk • contribs) 07:11, 25 February 2011 (UTC)
