Missing
Missing figure
Where should Persephone go? I think she was mortal at first, but it also seems like she became a sort of demigoddess later. --Masamage 19:30, 30 November 2006 (UTC)
- She is there, under "other deities". (She was always a goddess.) Adam Bishop 21:11, 30 November 2006 (UTC)
- Wow. Could've sworn she wasn't there this morning. X) Sorry, and thank you! --Masamage 00:03, 1 December 2006 (UTC)
Greek forms
The Greek forms of names that have just been added to the article are modern Greek, not ancient. In this context, the modern Greek names aren't much use -- maybe the user who's kindly doing this could switch to ancient (and polytonic) Greek? Andrew Dalby 14:33, 12 February 2007 (UTC)
He's a half-mortal man, like Achilleus is. so yeah he should be in the mortal section but as a hero? or something...METALFREAK04 (talk) 14:34, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
Pan and Hestia are missing
A rather significant omission. Both are major divinities but are completely omitted from the article. Also, to my knowledge Hestia is a former Olympian who renounced her place later on, which was then taken up by Dionysos. --Tsourkpk (talk) 21:21, 22 February 2008 (UTC)
- I'm going to be bold and add her in. She is considered a major deity in Greece and was the focal point of every home and city-state (since she was connected with the hearth in homes, which was the focal point of every home). While Pan is not an Olympian, he should be included somewhere as well. --Disinclination (talk) 18:05, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
Extreme Vandalism
The descriptions of all the gods have been vandalized, and replaced with vulgar messages.
Can someone fix, please? *First noticed 3/30/08* —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.251.43.203 (talk) 21:02, 30 March 2008 (UTC)
Hades
The list was copied to ro: and we observed that Hades is missing. I'm not sure if I can translate it from ro to en, so please, add him. Jubilee line (talk) 20:52, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
Justice
We ought, ought we not, to add Dike (Δίκη - note the capital letter distinguishes her from the concept 'justice' etc.). See e.g. Sophocles Antigone line 451.
The OCD tells us that she is only sometimes referred to as Astraea, whose entry should refer to Dike. John Wheater (talk) 08:05, 2 July 2008 (UTC)
Roman gods
Should I add the names of the Roman equivalents to the section of this article that deals with the Greek gods?--Apollonius 1236 (talk) 21:52, 5 July 2008 (UTC)
repeated vandalism
this article has been rather drastically and repeatedly gutted. i'm not up on the ins and outs of reverting multiple major changes, so i'm not touching it, but... somebody should probably do something. pauli (talk) 04:19, 17 August 2008 (UTC)
Hemera discription
one minor edit needed in description it currently reads 'Goddess of daylight. and the sun' it should be Goddess of daylight and the sun. in the section of primordial deities —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ofthecraft (talk • contribs) 05:57, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
Hephaestus
I agree with what it says, but compared to the wording of the rest of the article, the part that says "Married to Aphrodite, but she doesn't love him so is cheating on him with Ares," or something like that sounds like it was written by a teenage girl. No offense to who ever wrote it, I jsut don't think it fits with the way the rest of the article is written. And I don't claim to be an expert of Greek myth, but I didn't think Pandora was a daughter of Hephaestus. If I am wrong, just tell me, no problem with consturctive critisizm, but could you please either change the wording to something like: "Consort to Aphrodite, though she, being goddess of love and lust, did not love him but loved Ares." Admittedly, it is hard to make it not sound like the original, but I'm sure it is possible. I'm not going to freak out if you don't change it, it's just I like writing and it bugs me when part of a piece sounds out of place.
Emy199 (talk) 01:06, 7 November 2008 (UTC)
- Sorry ;) This hasn't been looked at in a while. BlackPearl14[talkies!•contribs!] 05:04, 7 November 2008 (UTC)
Dionysus
Why is Dionysus listed as an Olympian Deity in the article, but on the sidebar thing on the side, as a "lesser deity"? I think the two should be made in sync with each other, but I wanted to get some feedback before changing it. Rishi.bedi (talk) 04:19, 16 November 2008 (UTC)
Persephone still missing
I thought that Persephone was going to be added, but the only mention of her is in the Hades description. She is a goddess (and a pretty important opne) so she really should be added. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.23.136.203 (talk) 01:24, 8 December 2008 (UTC)
Chronos vs. Cronus
Under the section for primordial dieties, the Greek name and the anglicized spelling are for the Titan Cronus, instead of for the primordial god Chronos. It also has stated that he is a Titan, which is false. Someone who can edit should clean that up so that the greek spelling is Xρόνος, and so it has less information on Cronus. It's confusing in its current state. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Elf of doriath (talk • contribs) 22:07, 17 December 2008 (UTC)

Rustic deities
Should this section even be in here? The list is very long and there is hardly one feature that ties all of them together. Most of them seem to be personified concept deities (lakes, rivers, mountains, seasons, etc; has its own section), or are deities for agricultural purposes (which also has its own section), or nymphs, centaurs, dryads, etc (which would be nice to have their own section(s)). Forgive me, as I only have a basic knowledge of Greek Mythology, but if this grouping is particularly important in some way, then it would be nice to know why. I see another site from doing a google search that lists gods by more specific groupings [1], though this seems to have been someone's pet project and far from a reputable source. Adrian (talk) 02:07, 24 February 2010 (UTC)
Dionysus
Dionysus is not an Olympian. Him being in that list makes no sense, as he is not on the list of Olympians in the Greek Mythology sidebar. Erebos86 (talk) 04:01, 6 March 2010 (UTC)
- I gather there are about fourteen gods who have been considered to number among the Olympians in various traditions. In some tellings, Dionysus was offered a place among the twelve Olympians, and Hestia gave up hers in favour of him. Hades, though generally not listed among the Olympians, was occasionally named as one of the Twelve. There are many variations of the myths, there's no one 'right' version.
- For that reason, I'd argue that Dionysus should remain up there, but I think there does need to be some qualifying statement regarding his place among the Twelve. Possibly Hades could also go up there, though Dionysus has the stronger case. (Both are listed in Twelve Olympians.)
- However, I do agree that there needs to be some kind of uniformity on this: We've got only twelve listed as Olympians in Template:Ancient Greek religion, yet there are thirteen (including Dionysus) in Template:Greek religion. --Shoemoney2night (talk) 05:32, 6 March 2010 (UTC)
- Actually, I agree to Shoemoney2night because it's actually true. But I still think that Hestia deserves a place somewhere more important...I dunno
Things perhaps missing?
How about medusa? Does that belong here? Is Demeter Zeus' sister? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Wpdodd (talk • contribs) 08:20, August 22, 2007 (UTC).

- Not sure if this should be put under missing , but the Divine twins are known as Castor and Polydeuces , Polydeuces is also known as Pollux, should that be added to where the Twins are listed?
Vandalism
A user with the IP address 70.88.44.57 has repeatedly vandalized the page. I recently reverted the page to an earlier version, is there any way we could prevent htis from happening again? Princess amidala 14:38, 30 March 2007 (UTC)princess_amidala

Actually, Ouranos did create the first Kyklops, though Poseidon then created his own to be his servants. Mrwall e (talk) 22:43, 22 April 2010 (UTC)
A suggestion?
This page is getting pretty massive, and it's nowhere near a comprehensive list yet. Is there any chance we could divide this information over more than one list? For example, a "List of Greek deities" for all immortals and a "List of Greek heroes and heroines" (or something) for mortals? Potentially the deities could be divided up even further - between Olympians, Titans, Gigantes, Protogenoi, aquatic deities, underworld deities, sky gods, rustic god, agricultural gods, deified mortals, personified concepts, nymphs, and all that jazz there are a helluva lot of them. --Shoemoney2night (talk) 12:59, 17 February 2010 (UTC)
- I'm suggesting we split this article into at least two separate lists, perhaps List of Greek deities and List of Greek mythological heroes and heroines. --Shoemoney2night (talk) 05:10, 19 February 2010 (UTC)
I am currently teaching a college mythology course and I think this page is AWESOME just as it is, because it allows me to get a convenient overview of all the mythological figures I might possibly want my course to touch on. I think the type of grouping suggested above is beneficial, but those groups can be created within the current page--no need for separate pages. Mbroder (talk) 22:35, 10 March 2010 (UTC)
- I'd be in favour of keeping it as one article. --Goodbye Galaxy (talk) 17:17, 23 April 2010 (UTC)
Keeping it one article for now, we can re-address this in the future. Beam 15:42, 5 July 2010 (UTC)
Mixed up?
Should the large list of olympian gods go under the olympian gods section, instead of being under the protogenoi? can someone change that please? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tommmullen (talk • contribs) 15:20, 4 August 2010 (UTC)

Heracles immortal?
I noticed that Heracles was in the Immortal section on the main page, but in fact, he is not immortal, even though he is an offspring of Zeus and a mortal woman. Androo123 (talk) 22:48, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
He's an hero like Achilleus. He's half and half. not full immortal. METALFREAK04 (talk) 14:36, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
He was killed by his loving wife, then Zeus made him immortal. Mrwall e (talk) 22:38, 22 April 2010 (UTC)

Proposal
Should this page just have "important" people on it, or should we attempt to make a list of all characters? I know there are more who have articles who are not listed here, and there must be more who don't have articles yet. It might be helpful to list them here. Any objections? Adam Bishop
beside there name maybe what they were the god/goddess of should be placed.
I think this page should have as many characters of the Greek Mythology as possible, in list format with perhaps short descriptions. If a major character, group, event or concept needs to be fleshed out, it can have it's own page link. This list has actually helped me to track down some of the more obscure names that couldn't otherwise spell. --SwitchLink (talk) 18:08, 14 April 2010 (UTC)
- I agree. This "list" should be as exhaustive as possible. This has been one of the better ways of finding characters that don't have their own article(s) and creating them. --Thorwald (talk) 22:14, 14 April 2010 (UTC)
This article says that the Lord of Time is different from the leader of the Titans. This is incorrect. Kronos, the Lord of Time, and the leader of the titans, is the titan that, on the advice of Gaia, overthrew Ouranos. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 115.242.192.57 (talk) 12:13, 3 December 2011 (UTC)

Hermes should be transliterated Hermēs, not *Hērmēs (get rid of the macron on the first e). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.119.52.129 (talk) 08:34, 4 September 2012 (UTC)
Reader feedback
One of the most frequent requests for this page from the reader feedback service is "more pictures." Would anyone object if I added an image column to the tables? Twelve Olympians has one, though I'd like to vary the images and not confine them to freestanding sculpture. Cynwolfe (talk) 17:40, 14 November 2012 (UTC)

Table of Greek Mythological Characters
I created the following tables over 12 years ago (using a very old file format). I haven't found a list/table like this on Wikipedia (the "Family tree of the Greek gods" doesn't render well). I won't guarantee that all of the information is 100% correct . . . but it should very nearly be. If people think this will be a useful table to have on Wikipedia, I can convert it to a wiki-table. Comments welcome. --Thorwald 00:18, 16 September 2006 (UTC)

Spelling Aris, Afrodite etc
I have just changed the spelling of Aris Velouchiotis (of the Greek resisance)to Ares V. The name was taken from that of the Greek God of War, and is usually spelled Ares by British novelists (eg Mary Stewart) and British agents and historians. However writers of Greek origin prefer to apply what I think are the prevailing norms for spelling (modern) Greek words in English, thus Aris.
I wondered whether people following the classical pages had any views. Of course another way to achieve consistency would be to modernise the spelling throughout Wikipedia, thus Aris, Afrodite, Eera (?) 22:04, 9 January 2013 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bougatsa42 (talk • contribs)

Demeter is not an Olympian
There are 12 Olympian gods not 13. Demeter should be listed with Dionysus elsewhere in the listing but not with the other Olympians —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 149.10.145.121 (talk) 13:51, 10 May 2007 (UTC).
Well ,maybe, but there are the Major gods and then there are the minor gods. I'm not a big Greek Mythology fan, but I studied it. If I'm wrong, whatever. But I'm practically positive.(I'm just saying)
Wait, I was thinking about something else. You're totally RIGHT. Sorry sorry sorry74.173.131.184 23:55, 13 May 2007 (UTC)
Demeter is an Olympian; she was one of the original 6 gods born from Chronus and Rhea.
You people spell Kronos wrong...its Kronos and Rhea gave birth to zeus and lots of others, starting of Olympius tree. Demeter is probably actually from Chaos (long line away though). ♣
Cronos can be spelled a lot of ways...for example; Cronus, Cronos, Kronos, Kronus, Chronus, etc. Also, I'm pretty sure Demeter is a major goddess and is the child of Cronos and Rhea, the sister to Zeus. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.107.133.3 (talk) 23:03, 22 November 2013 (UTC)
Hestia is missing from the list of Olympians
Generally, there is said to be 12 Olympians. If you include Demeter, then you must discard Hades -- not Hestia. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.88.125.108 (talk) 07:47, 7 November 2007 (UTC)
Actually, Hestia gave up her place at Olympus, when Dionysius came there. So, there could have been more than 12 Olympians in various accounts. Ditto for Hades (sometimes counted as Olympian, but more often not). —Preceding unsigned comment added by82.143.189.120 (talk) 13:14, 10 February 2010 (UTC)
demeter isnt an olympian... hestia is
Well, officially, the 12 Olympians are Zeus, Hera, Athena, Ares, Aphrodite, Hermes, Apollo, Artemis, Demeter, Hephaestus, Dionysus, and Poseidon. Hades is not included because he is banished to the Underworld, and therefor does not have a throne on Mount Olympus. He can only visit Mount Olympus on the Winter Solstice, the darkest day of the year, for the Winter Council. And Hestia is not a Olympian because she gave up her seat on the Council for Dionysus. I thought I'd just clear that up. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.205.102.91 (talk) 02:34, 17 June 2010 (UTC)
No offense to anyone's opinions, but I personally think Demeter, Hestia, and Hades are all Olympians. Just because Hades and Hestia don't have a throne doesn't mean they're not Olympian gods. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.107.133.3 (talk) 23:06, 22 November 2013 (UTC)
Roman counterparts
Has anyone made a table comparing (or even listing) the Greek Olympians with their Roman counterparts? I'd at least like to see the names side by side. Uncle Ed 03:07, 28 September 2005 (UTC)
Greek god | Description | Roman god |
Aphrodite | goddess of | Venus |
Apollo | Helios, the Sun God, patron of scribes & god of music & health | |
Arês | god of war | Mars |
Artemis | Goddess of the hunt and the moon | Diana |
Athena | goddess of wisdom, strategy, and war | Minerva |
Dêmêtêr | goddess of agriculture | Ceres |
Hephaestus (Hepháistos) | god of fire and the forge | Vulcan |
Hêra | goddess of marriagequeen of gods | Juno |
Hermês | god of travel/messenger of the gods | Mercury |
Hestia | goddess of the hearth | Vesta |
Poseidon | god of the sea | Neptune |
Zeus | Leader of the gods, god of the skies | Jupiter or Jove |
Oh, I just found the table I was looking for at Similarities between Roman, Greek, and Etruscan mythologies. Uncle Ed 03:13, 28 September 2005 (UTC)

I like the idea of the table, I think it's really good, but the Roman versions of the gods are kind of different from the Greeks. For example, Athena is the goddess of war and crafts, while her Roman counterpart, Minerva, is not the goddess of war, just of crafts. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.107.133.3 (talk) 23:13, 22 November 2013 (UTC)

I would like to add the other spellings of names to the article, like, for example, in the Titans chart, where it says 'Crius', I'd like to add to that 'Krios', so it's not confusing if the people reading read 'Crius' on the chart and then go down and read the name 'Krios'. I'd like to do the same to the other names that have different spellings. Thanks! 24.107.133.3 (talk) 22:52, 22 November 2013 (UTC)

There appears to be missing titans.
I was studying the Titans on Theoi, and I came across a few not listed on the greek list of gods:
Specifically: Anchiale:
ANKHIALE (or Anchiale) was the Titan goddess of the warming heat of fire. She was the wife of Hekateros, the titan-god of the hands, and mother of the metal-working Daktyloi, literally the Fingers. These rustic gods lived on the slopes of Mount Ida (either the Kretan or Phrygian mountain), and together represented the power of fingers and hands to create and utilise fire. Indeed, it was Ankhiale's own brother Prometheus who stole fire from heaven for mankind.
Though strangely Hekateros is not listed specifically a titan in his own article and thus that could be a mistake made by theoi unless they have a possible theory behind it.
Also there is Anytus, and l'll use a quote mentioned on Theoi specifically stating it:
Pausanias, Description of Greece 8. 37. 1 (trans. Jones) (Greek travelogue C2nd A.D.) : "[From Akakesion in Arkadia] it is four stades to the sanctuary of Despoine (Despoena) . . . On both sides of the throne [of the goddess] are images. By the side of Demeter stands Artemis . . . By the image of Despoine stands Anytos (Anytus), represented as a man in armour. Those about the sanctuary say that Despoine was brought up by Anytos, who was one of the Titanes, as they are called."
Another one is the Mousai Titanides (The Three Muses) which one is already listed on the wiki except specifically Melete, and Aoede. The wiki has the pages on them, but not specifically stated as Titans except Mnemosyne.
Sources: http://www.theoi.com/Georgikos/KoureteAnytos.html http://www.theoi.com/Titan/Mousai.html http://www.theoi.com/Titan/TitanisAnkhiale.html
There is another one simply called Titan, but he might have been a early version of Atlas, and so there is little concern for that one.
I don't know exactly how to do wiki edits, so I leave it up to anyone that wishes to add these in if they feel if this info is correct.

Aegea? A Lesser known Goddess?
I've came across pieces of information suggesting that Circe, and Pasiphae had an sister named Aegea. She was another daughter of the Sun. Supposedly she was placed in an Cave by Gaia to hide her shining beauty. Can a expert confirm this? I never seen Aegea listed anywhere on Wikipedia. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.11.51.217 (talk) 22:27, 14 February 2016 (UTC)

Sadly there is no direct source, but something I've found talked about from an artist website (which is of no importance for this conversation since he didn't provide any source for his inspiration). The only time I came across this name directly was from an etymology site with the small story included mentioned above which said artist never mentioned that Aegea was related to other goddesses. It made me wonder where exactly is this information coming from. Sadly It was user submitted data, and so it made it impossible to track down. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.11.51.217 (talk) 00:56, 16 February 2016 (UTC)

I've seen to have come across an alternate name:
---Aega was a lot of people. I will mention the more important ones. In one version she and her sisters suckled the infant Zeus and she was put in the sky later as the constellation Capella. In another version, she was chosen to suckle Zeus but couldn't cut it, so Amalthea came in to take her place. In another version she was a daughter of Helios who was so bright that when the Titans were attacking Olympus they had to ask Gaia to hide her - then she was stuck in a cave, where she ended up suckling Zeus. Zeus got the aegis from the goat version of Aega. Aega is mostly translated as "goat," but can also be said to be "gale of wind." ---
That might explain why it was so hard to track down this goddess. One of many stories where usually an god or goddess has their story changed depending on the ancient author. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.11.51.217 (talk) 01:43, 18 February 2016 (UTC)
