Misleading Ceremonies

[edit]

Just because a celebrity got hand and foot prints doesn't mean her cement block will be placed in front of the Chinese Theatre. Ones made for publicity purposes go inside the Grauman's Ballroom (within the Hollywood & Highland complex). These kind of ceremonies are on the rise, but the ones that go in front of the theatre are still selected by a special committee.[1] Therefore, this page should only list those who are in front of the theatre or there should be a separate page for cement blocks in the Ballroom. --V.M.L. Carmen Miranda's country

[edit]

I changed the flag that represents Carmen Miranda from the Portuguese to the Brazilian one, because, although Carmen Miranda was born in Portugal to Portuguese parents, she and her family left the country for Brazil when she was only 1 year old and never returned. All these references are in her main article. She was widely regarded as a Brazil's cultural icon and was labeled "The Brazilian Bombshell" by the general public back in the 40's. For such a woman whose image helped to create the American stereotype of the Latin American women, that perhaps remains to this day, it does make no sense whatsoever to link her to a "distant" and European Portugal. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 189.58.169.174 (talk) 05:34, 2 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Tamer Hosny's handprint

[edit]

Tamer Hosny didn't make official handprint, Egyptian Newspapers are misinformation and clearly inaccurate. this is the page on official website for official ceremonies, any celebrity make official handprint the Chinese Theatre place it in forecourt (this is the map, From 2011 the TCL Chinese Theatre allow to movies stars to make "promotion handprint" for their movies (Chinese Theatre co-owner Donald Kushner explained to LA Times).

the Theatre official social media talked about Premiere for Tamer Hosny movie not a handprint, no official source from TCL Chinese Theatre mention for that as usually they make with officially handprint ceremonies --Ibrahim.ID 22:17, 14 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Flags

[edit]

I removed the flags as per Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Icons#Do not emphasize nationality without good reason. All they are doing is, at best, giving an nu-sourced nationality to people. On the other hand several of them are just wrong and there is not enough room in a list to properly explain things. Some examples of wrong or misleading flags are Mary Pickford, she had a Canadian flag but her article says she was Canadian-American and there are several like this. Pola Negri had a Polish flag but she was born in Congress Poland, then part of the Russian Empire. Yul Brynner had a modern day Russian flag but was born in the Far Eastern Republic with a very different flag. Sean Connery had a UK flag but is quite outspokenly Scottish. Peter O'Toole had both an Irish and UK flag but there seems to be some dispute over his birthplace. Kenneth Branagh had an Irish flag but he was born in Belfast which isn't currently part of the Republic of Ireland. Then there are ones like this "Britney Spears, Simon Cowell, Demi Lovato and L.A. Reid" which had US and British flags. OK but which of them are from the US and which from the UK? Then there are the fictional characters. Leo the Lion (MGM) had a US flag but the first lion to portray him was from Dublin Zoo. Darth Vader (US flag), C-3PO and R2-D2 (both with UK flags). They are not from Earth so why do they not have the flags of the planets they are from. There are plenty of others that I can add if required but I'm sure you get the point.

Aside from that the flags stand out from the words. It becomes hard to read the article. I also set the sections into columns rather than having some one way and some another. And instead of having the images scroll down below the page end I put some in a gallery. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 20:30, 28 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

There are entries in the 2020s that: A) have not happened yet B) are uncited C) seem nonsensical, i.e. the "handprint" of the Subaru Rex/Legacy possible trolling? GoslingGiles (talk) 03:13, 20 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
