Suggestion
[edit]If the city or town is put in the address column, the states will be sortable by state.Best wishes. clariosophic (talk) 18:23, 20 October 2010 (UTC)
Numbers in first column of table
[edit]While the numbers in the first column of the table are good for sorting, they're a pain in the ass when it comes to inserting entries. Some editors have inserted new rows in the table and assigned decimal or alphabetic suffixes, which may or may not guarantee proper sorting. The correct way is to assign an integer value and renumber the entire list from 1 to n. If this is to be an ongoing task as the list expands, it would be useful to have a program written in a portable language, perhaps Python, to perform this maintenance, and have the program posted here on the Talk page, or as a sub-page of this Talk page to prevent its removal during archiving, so that anyone can copy it to their machine and run it on a copy of the table. Choosing a popular programming language such as Python would make it available to Linux/Unix, Windows and Mac users, and possibly others. The ideal situation would be if Wikipedia tables had an inbuilt mechanism to do this, similar to the way an ordered list works in HTML, but they currently don't. — QuicksilverT @ 18:09, 20 January 2016 (UTC)
