The hot nanny
The nanny who turns out to be lesbian also appears in more than one episode towards the end of the series. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.94.246.47 (talk) 06:34, 26 October 2010 (UTC)
Alice & the triplets
Phoebe's half-brother, Frank, is married to Alice Knight (Debra Jo Rupp) who appears in several episodes. Phoebe also has triplets for them, named Chandler, Frank Jr. Jr., and Leslie, who also appear in a few episodes. However, Alice and the triplets are NOT listed in the recurring characters section. I think these are very important characters and should be added to the article. 24.163.104.94 (talk) 01:52, 21 June 2013 (UTC)
Fun Bobby
Should there be an article on Fun bobby? He was in quite alot episodes i believe, he even had an episode devoted to him (Where he drinks alot) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.10.225.52 (talk) 21:26, 15 November 2008 (UTC)
Monica's Middle Name?
Do they ever actually say that her middle name is Elizabeth? In an episode, they reveal that it begins with an "e", but do they ever actually say her middle name is Elizabeth? Olsentwinluv4ever (talk) 03:41, 6 July 2013 (UTC)
Birthdays
The birthdays for the children; I think we should get rid of these because we can't be sure if they're right.
Monica's wedding was in May and at that point Rachel was already pregnent. I know Emma was born late, but not 3 months late, which puts her birthday in February not May.
This also means season 10 episode 4 occurs in February 2003 though, 14 episodes before the finale and 15 months before when the finale is set. it'd a complicated timeline.
- BTW, The ages of the main characters are one of the few areas where Friends seems to skimp on continuity. All we can be sure of is that Ross is a few years older than Monica, Phoebe was 31 when her grandmother died (17 years after her mother Lily killed herself when she was 14), and most of the other characters are within a year of each other. Rachel may or may not be the youngest, but she graduated Lincoln High in the same year as Monica or a year before that. RobertGustafson (talk) 01:33, 9 July 2012 (UTC)
- Since Ross "lived with Monica for 16 years", and since he was a college freshman when Rachel was a high-school senior, it follows that Ross is 1 year older than Rachel, who is in turn 1 year older than Monica. "The One Where They All Turn 30" seems to forget that. RobertGustafson (talk) 00:38, 25 February 2013 (UTC)
- Chandler, and perhaps Joey, are about Ross' age, and Phoebe is older than see seems. The episodes are moreorless consistent (within a year or two) on their respective ages, except in "The One Where They All Turn 30", which is an extreme outlier. Long story short, when Ross was 30, Rachel was 29, Monica was 28, Chandler (and maybe Joey) was 30. RobertGustafson (talk) 22:23, 9 May 2015 (UTC)

- Emma was not born in January or February. In the episode where Rachel goes into labor, she wears a tank top, and Ross wants her to wear something more appropriate to the doctor, but she says it's "100 degrees out." Also, in season 8, they do a Valentine's day episode, when Chandler accidentally watches the live waterbirth video, and Rachel did not look 9 months pregnant at that point. So Rachel was pregnant with Emma for around a year. Continuity was never very important to the writers of the show. Jhtx (talk) 23:34, 7 April 2017 (UTC)

- The articles have been merged into this one. It needs some cleanup now. --musicpvm 22:07, 16 July 2006 (UTC)
Why aren't Ben and Emma not listed as family members? Ben made more appearances than Rachel's sisters.
WHAT ABOUT THE MINSK GUY!!!!!!!!!
Susan =
I removed the assumption of susan being in the medical profession. The part where she is paged is for a commercial, as clearly mentioned in the episode. ("I thought you said they could shoot the part without you", "The maxi pad commercial was a piece of cake. you'd think the mini pad would be that much easier")
Janice =
The summary of Janice article is missing here!

hello
why dont they put all the characters that arent the 6 main ones on one page, and put them into clear categories? yeesh lol Hettym 11:14, 10 June 2007 (UTC)
Phoebe's brother
Frank appears for first time on the chapter "The one with the baby on the bus" but he is just asking if he dropped a condom on the guitar case. But neither of them know each other yet. Also, he is shouting the name Christine.--87.219.127.223 14:06, 10 August 2007 (UTC)
- I wouldn't go so far as to state that the condom guy could not be Frank Jr., only because later it is stated that he never was in NYC before. There are many inconsistencies in the series, and this could be just one of them.
However I agree that it is unlikely, but definitely not impossible. Kennin (talk) 02:59, 1 November 2008 (UTC)
Also a reference to "smelly cat" as a character would also need to be made.Lorenchr (talk) 12:43, 29 October 2019 (UTC)
Merge Gunther article here
Gunther (Friends character) is largely plot summary and there are not enough third party sources to establish out-of-universe notability for the character. I propose merging the useful and encyclopedic information from that article here. Brad 19:59, 1 September 2007 (UTC)
- No objections. Merge done. Brad 20:18, 13 September 2007 (UTC)
You didn't merge anything, all you did was delete the Gunther article. The information under List of recurring characters in Friends was only slightly altered with hardly any new info added while the Gunther article is now gone. Unless you can incorperate more information, I think the article should be restored. Johnred32 21:13, 13 September 2007 (UTC)

List of Significant Others
Since the List of Significant Others was deleted, shouldn't the information be added here? Just a suggestion. Mhavril39 02:59, 11 November 2007 (UTC)
The recurring ones should. Especially characters such as Janice and Mike Hannagin who are important to the plot of the show. Those two should definately be included. Johnred32 03:53, 11 November 2007 (UTC)
Jill and Amy Greene (Oldest? Youngest?)
Alright, there seems to be a minor edit war over which sister is the oldest and which is the youngest. I don't remember at this point because I haven't seen the episodes in a while, but until an agreement can be reached I removed the statements that one was oldest and one was youngest. Johnred32 00:33, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
- I think Jill's the younger one (since Reese Witherspoon is younger than Christina Applegate), but I don't think they ever said on the show. Maybe if they ever do a Friends reunion show, they'll resolve that.RobertGustafson (talk) 07:26, 14 November 2011 (UTC)
- Also, although it's not explicitly mentioned, it's obvious that Rachel is the firstborn--older than both Jill and Amy. After all, she's always advising them what to do like a big sister.24.154.191.216 (talk) 23:15, 5 December 2011 (UTC)
- Rachel is at least older than Jill, because she describes her as "my little sister".RobertGustafson (talk) 22:27, 9 May 2015 (UTC)

Barry F... Farber to Finkle?
Didn't they change the name of Mitchell Whitfield's character to Barry Finkle when he first returned to the show? I know it was Farber in the pilot (and he had yet to be seen or even cast), but I seem to recall that when he became a recurring character his last name was Finkle. Could this have been because there's a radio host by the name of Barry Farber?
Mr. Treeger
I'm almost positive they said their grandmother moved to Florida so Monica got the apartment.. anyone else remember this?
(a fact made clear many times throughout the series, as Monica took control of and subletted the spare room of the apartment and continued living there even after her grandmother, the real lessor, passed away) Angelicerin17 (talk) 19:30, 12 December 2008 (UTC)
Green?
I though it was Rachel Greene with an "e" on the end, I'm sure I remember seeing it on her door in her one of her offices, anyone else know if it's "Greene", so they can back me up? I may be wrong but I'm sure it was Greene because I remember thinking it was odd to have an "E" on the end. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.158.217.123 (talk) 20:37, 26 January 2009 (UTC)
On some episodes where Rachel is in her office at Ralph Lauren, there IS an sign on the door with her name, and you can clearly see that her last name has an 'e' on the end. However, in a lot of the "FRIENDS" memorabilia & merchandise, it is spelled without one. But, since the actual TV show is a much more reliable source, it should be assumed to have an 'e' on the end. So, yes, I CAN back you up! Olsentwinluv4ever (talk) 03:48, 6 July 2013 (UTC)
Julie?
Can anyone produce a section on Julie, Ross's girlfriend before Rachel? She was in several episodes, and more notable than some of the characters already in the article. --hippo43 (talk) 00:12, 21 March 2009 (UTC)
Elizabeth
Elizabeth who appears in Friends from "The One Where Ross Dates a Student" should get a mention here IMO, along with his dad, who appeared in 3 episodes. Wyvernoid (talk) 01:29, 19 June 2009 (UTC)
Ugly Naked Guy?!

Episode references
I applaud the attempt to cite everything, but really, my understanding of proper citation protocol is that if you have nothing to add to the text, you don't have to cite. In other words, you don't have to cite This happens in "The One With The Pizza" by citing "The One With The Pizza". That adds nothing. I believe all of this type of citation should be removed. EITHER state the episode in the text, OR cite it without stating it in the text. I'm not saying every one should be a cite or that every one should be in the text. It's judgement depending on whether the reader NEEDS to know the episode name to understand the sentence, or if it's just a reference.
A good example is Janice's section. WAYYYYY too many episode names. This page should not be a catalogue of appearances. It should be a character bio that uses references to indicate the episodes where the info comes from.
An example: Chandler has trouble dumping her in "The One with the East German Laundry Detergent"[e 12] but gets back together with her for New Year's in "The One with the Monkey"[e 13] and for Valentine's in "The One with the Candy Hearts".[e 14]
Could and probabaly should become: Chandler has trouble dumping her[e 12] but then gets back together with her for New Year's[e 13] and for Valentine's[e 14] in the first season.
That's obviously just one example of how most of this article should be re-written. Things like "[name] first appeared in [episode]" are totally fine, but plot points don't [necessarily] need the episode named in the text. TheHYPO (talk) 02:26, 28 October 2009 (UTC)
The Chick and The Duck
Restored this entry since this article is a redirect target for The Chick and The Duck, and I could find no more suitable article. Besides, these characters were awesome. The Chick and The Duck were removed, perhaps accidentally (edit summary: reformat recurring), having survived at least one prior edit for substance.[1] / edg ☺ ☭ 16:11, 10 December 2009 (UTC)
Gabrielle Union?
I recall an episode where Joey and Ross compete for Gabrielle Union's character, where they try to one up each other, culminating in a crazy fight and Ross calling Joey "VD Boy"... Don't remember the name of the character, but the episode was great. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Milanf07 (talk • contribs) 07:17, 21 April 2010 (UTC)

Vague sentence in "season six" section
Part of the description for Paul Stevens (Bruce Willis) is vague. It reads:
While hiding under the bed, Ross sees Paul talking to himself in the mirror and singing, and implies he will tell Rachel unless he leaves him and Elizabeth alone.
Well, what is wrong with singing in front of mirror? (Singing is an accepted hobby, isn't it?) Did Rachel had anything against singing or is it taboo in Friends universe? (To such extent that can be used as a device for blackmail?)
A clarification would be appreciated.
Regards, Fleet Command (talk) 12:28, 12 November 2011 (UTC)
- The reason Ross can blackmail him with it is that Paul acts half macho-like, half dorky in front of the mirror, singing "Love Machine"--implying that his intentions with Rachel (Ross' ex) are the same as Ross' with Elizabeth. No man wants to be seen as too forward or otherwise embarrassed in front of a prospective girlfriend. RobertGustafson (talk) 07:11, 14 November 2011 (UTC)
- But the grammar fails to mention that Ross makes his threat after Paul discovers him. I will attempt to rephrase that sentence.RobertGustafson (talk) 07:13, 14 November 2011 (UTC)
- Haha, "Love Machine"! So, that was the case. I understand now. Regards, Fleet Command (talk) 07:49, 14 November 2011 (UTC)

Is there an order to the character list?
The characters don't seem to be listed in any particular order--alphabetical, chronological, character-relationship, etc.--except by season. I noticed that some characters that are closely related or made their debut at about the same time are listed far apart from each other. Some sorting should be considered.RobertGustafson (talk) 07:19, 14 November 2011 (UTC)
- I agree. I think the characters should be sorted by episode chronology. If "Joe" first appeared in the second episode of the season, "Mary" first appeared in the seventh episode, and "Louise" first appeared in the fifteenth episode, then that is how they should be listed. ZeroMercury (talk) 21:51, 15 November 2011 (UTC)
Splitting the article
Also, one should consider making separate articles for characters of each season, and having links to the resulting 10 articles in this one. Perhaps there should also be a list of additional characters which, while too minor to be in this article, were played by celebrities--i.e., Kristen Davis, Soleil Moon Frye, Billy Crystal, Robin Williams. (The first 2 aren't listed in this article; the second 2 are.)
- At the very least there should be 2 character lists--one for minor and/or one-time characters, and another (this one) for significant and/or recurring characters. Preferably in separate articles.RobertGustafson (talk)
Rearranged main character list
I moved Jennifer Aniston's entry ahead of Courtney Cox's so that the main characters' actors are listed in the same order as the opening credits of the show (which happens to be alphabetical).
I also rearranged their crediting to show the character before the actor, just like the characters in the following section. RobertGustafson (talk) 07:44, 14 November 2011 (UTC)
Expanded "Recurring Characters" to include "notable" and "celebrity-played" characters
Since there's already several one-time characters who are included because of they're played by famous actors or are related to other characters, I added a few more. I would add even more, but I can't get the episode and season for all of them. (Examples, who I haven't been able to get complete info on, include characters like Isabella Rossellini (herself), Ugly Naked Guy (played by who?), and Leonard Hayes (Jeff Goldblum).)
One should consider having a separate article for each season, or separating major and minor characters into different articles.

Frank Buffay Sr.
He is played by celebrity Bob Balaban. There is even a linked mention of that on Bob's page, but the link goes to this character list and not a listing for him specifically. Why isn't he included? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sbwinter2 (talk • contribs) 02:35, 24 November 2011 (UTC)
- If I'm told what season and episode he appeared in, I'll add him.24.154.191.216 (talk) 23:17, 5 December 2011 (UTC)
Episode name clutter
I feel there are too many citations for individual episodes in the main text, as opposed to within <ref group="e" name="xxxx"> tags (where "xxx" is a shorthand for the episode name) and {{cite episode ...}} templates--particularly starting with characters "Introduced in season 3". When an episode's name does not shed much light on the details of a character, it should be sequestered in the "Primary References" section using the above technique. (See sections for first 2 seasons for a guide. Extra advice: Edit the whole "Recurring characters ..." section for all 10 seasons rather than sub-sections for individual seasons; that makes it easier to see if an episode is already cited as a "ref" and to therefore avoid redundant episode definitions when citing.) RobertGustafson (talk) 04:27, 10 December 2011 (UTC)
Joey's tag line
Joey Tribbiani's line is "How'r you doin'?"--short for "How are you doing?", not "How you doin'?", although other characters imitate it in the latter way. It takes a sharp ear to notice the difference.RobertGustafson (talk) 02:42, 22 January 2012 (UTC)
- On further reflection, and on viewing "The One with Joey's Interview", it's occured to me that the "r" sound between "How" and "you" is only an occasional, and possibly accidental, adlib by LeBlanc. Sometimes it sounds like "How", sometimes like "How'r", but the latter sound can be accidentally generated by drawing out "How" and going seemlessly into "you"--as is LeBlanc's way to articulating the question. RobertGustafson (talk) 13:49, 10 March 2012 (UTC)
What Julie cameo?
The article says the character Julie had a final cameo appearance in "The One with Russ". But I just saw that episode and didn't see her. Where does she make an appearance?RobertGustafson (talk) 00:22, 26 January 2012 (UTC)
In the credits scene - she meets Russ and they're instantly attracted to one another. Smurfmeister (talk) 15:17, 13 December 2016 (UTC)

Gunther's First Appearance - Correction Completed
The article previously stated that Gunther first appears as a background character in "The One with the Thumb." This was incorrect. His first appearance was in the second episode "The One with the Sonogram at the End." I may not have a news article to quote this, but I know this for 100% fact because I have the entire series on DVD. In the opening scene of that episode, Tyler can be seen behind Rachel working the bar. I have already made this correction in the article. Just thought you should know. As well as Sarah Ferguson making a cameo appearance in "The One with Ross's Wedding: Part 1" Richard Branson and Hugh Laurie also made a cameo appearance. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 186.176.135.81 (talk) 13:36, 4 January 2013 (UTC)

Actual in-universe last appearance of Susan?
"The One That Could Have Been" is a hypothetical alternate universe version of the character, and the article currently attributes the claim that the last appearance of the character was that episode to the episode itself, which is technically OR. It'd be better to find out what secondary sources say. Hijiri 88 (聖やや) 00:39, 1 April 2019 (UTC)
