People who need a source that says they are "French American"
[edit]The following people should only be restored to the list with a source that actually says they are "French American" or "French" (if they are "American"), as per Wikipedia:No original research. So no French grannies, maids, ancestry, descent, etc. - the person themselves must be described as French.
- People with some kind of very, very distant or non-existant French ancestry who likely are not described as "French Americans" anywhere Bob Beauprez (Grandparents were Belgian, not French), Michelle Branch, George W. Bush, Claire Lee Chennault, Clea DuVall, Alice Heine - born in French Quarter, but not even of French descent it seems, Dorothy Lamour, Sabrina Le Beauf, Matt LeBlanc, Charlton Lyons, Hall M. Lyons, Michael Nesmith, Bob Ney, John M. Perzel, Ryan Phillippe - the Phillippes, who have been in the US and married Anglo-Americans for 300 years, were originally something like "Philipi"s from Switzerland, Don Prudhomme, Ron Rivest, Franklin D. Roosevelt - his last French Huguenot ancestors were in the early 1600s[1], Gary Sinise, Franchot Tone, James Agee, Stephen Colbert, Rosanna Arquette, Patricia Arquette, David Arquette, etc. - all 1/16th French. Lewis is 1/8th, Ian Somerhalder, Jesse Metcalfe, Tyrone Power, Tyrone Power, Sr., Sherilyn Fenn, Robert Duvall, Lon Chaney, Sr., Lon Chaney, Alec Baldwin, Bette Davis, Joan Crawford
- You dont make any sense, so what if they have 1/16th of french blood. you think you're able the genetic line of everyone in the U.S. you're probably french as well, so stop trying to make the law. Abdelkweli 20:03, 13 July 2007 (UTC)

- Frank Abagnale
- Danny Ardoin - not sure
- Rene Auberjonois - mother was French [2]
- Kevyn Aucoin - make-up artist and photographer - no source - may be a Cajun

Mad Jack 01:08, 12 July 2006 (UTC) Excuse me, but if Jacqueline Onassis can be called French with having one great-grandfather,Lee H. Oswald should be included as his maternal grandfather was French.I notice at Wikipedia people who have remote Indian ancestry are listed as native americans but French-Americans need to provide a DNA test!I myself am descended from Bastien Oliveaux of Louisiana.Try telling me I'm not part French !jeanne (talk) 17:16, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
- Anyone still keeping up on this list? seems like a lot of these issues still are here, just seems weird to include people that just have vague "French, Irish, English, and German ancestry..." etc. like Jessica Biel or Cate Blanchett or Lucille Ball. Just seems like we could include pretty much everyone on every ethnicity based list if you wanted to Boucher4 (talk) 18:16, 18 September 2023 (UTC)
Cajuns on French Americans
[edit]While Cajuns are descended from the French, the degrees of separation are so far removed as to make including them on a list of French-Americans meaningless. I've thus removed the copied and pasted list of Cajuns, as well as the reference to them in the lead. Arguments for including them should be proposed here and we can work to establish consensus. -- Merope 18:04, 17 July 2007 (UTC)
cajuns, acadians
[edit]Cajuns, acadians, louisianans, they're so many different names for different americans of french descent because their culture is so rich and somewhat so different but so close at the same time. I'm an acadian but more importantly I'm a french american so I really don't see why there should be a difference.
If you say there should be two different list, it doesn't make sense. The people on the french-american list should be in one of wiki-invented list of cajuns or acadians. I understand there are some more recent french-americans who are only 1 or 2 generations-old americans but this distinction isn't made for italian-americans, german-americans. I'm surprised to see Albert Einstein a fairly recent immigrant in American history next to Katherine Heigl, a 10 to 12 generations american. \\
This is all race-based, biased because french-bashing don't stop at the bush government level.Abdelkweli 19:09, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
- There is no reason to list the exact same names twice. It's really as simple as that. It's pointless. Mad Jack 19:10, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
I agree with Abdelkweli, the amount of Americansjeanne (talk) 17:22, 3 April 2008 (UTC) who envy us people lucky enough to possess a portion of French ancestry is amazing. My name is Jeanne;most people react with extreme hostility when I give it.
List of French-Americans
[edit]This is a list of notable French-Americans who do not appear on the original list. All those people considered by different sources like French-American (ie, people who are direct descents of French, having a French father,to a close ancestor French, etc...) excluded from the original list on this list (Most of the people who appear in it correspond to well- Know actors and actresses). Please, if you have a reliable source to accept or reject these people as French-Americans indicate this:
- Jennifer Carpenter
- Caleb Deschanel
- Gary Dourdan, (he is an African-American actor who falls partially Europeans, among whom are French).
- Farrah Fawcett
- Solange Knowles
- Shemar Moore
- Barack Obama (mother's side).
- Annette O'Toole
