Here are some notes to my recent edit...

  • I have replaced the main date for the current blue ensign. While the base design has been in use since 1948, the arms on the ensigns were redesigned in 1999. For details, see FOTW.
  • I have added the dates for the previous blue ensign. See World Statesmen for the dates.
  • This may cause problems, but I have added the Argentine flag to the historical section. It appears to have been used in the Falklands during the war. World Statesmen has the dates.
  • The Flag of the British Antarctic Territory (BAT) has been deleted since it was adopted long after the BAT was spun off from the Falklands (the BAT was created in 1962, and the flag previously listed here was adopted in 1998).

I've removed Argentina, since it was only used by an occupying army- and not the civil administration or general population. It would be like adding the Nazi flag to the List of French flags for example. Astrotrain 18:32, 9 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The Nazi flag and the Soviet flag is ued in the List of flags of Lithuania both mentioning that it was under coccupation however. --DWRtalk 15:11, 13 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Red ensign

[edit]

Hello all,

I see that someone has modeled the red ensign on the current blue ensign, whose badge was changed in 1999. This is incorrect for these reasons:

  • The Ministry of Defence has no power to change badges on red ensigns.
  • There was an intent for the badge to be in a disk.
  • The statutory instrument (SI) was passed in the proper way; due to this, it's the law.

For elaboration on these points, see FOTW. For the SI itself, see here.
