Notes on Playing Record table:

  • All columns sortable
  • Country sorting in English name order, ie GER for Germany (not DEU), SPA for Spain (not ESP)
  • Sorting name sorts into Christian name order, use browser refresh to get original order
  • Would prefer more elegant column headings but can't manage it with sortable table

Content as per http://images.pgalinks.com/vmc/pressReleases/MG_2011Ryder.pdf except:

  • Percy Alliss: 4 appearances not 5 (didn't play in 1931)
  • Maurice Bembridge/Brian Huggett: Bembridge is given 2 fourball wins, Huggett none but they won a match playing together in 1973
  • Jiminez appears in two places in MG_2011Ryder.pdf and his record is wrong
  • Arthur Lees is given 5 singles matches in 4 Ryder Cups which was not possible. Confusion perhaps with Dai Rees who is a singles match short
  • Peter Mills in team in 1959 but didn't play so 2 appearances not 1
  • Alf Padgham is given 4 singles matches in 3 Ryder Cups which was not possible. Confusion with Alf Perry who is a singles match short
  • Ian Poulter/Justin Rose are given 3-0-0/2-0-0 foursome records but they lost a match playing together in 2008
  • Players included who didn't play any matches

Playing record reference

[edit]

Have added reference to Playing record section but note:

reference is missing Ross Fisher + Laurie Ayton, Stewart Burns, Allan Dailey, George Gadd, Eric Green, Jack Hargreaves, Reg Horne (these last 7 were in a team but never played any matches)

reference has: Percy Alliss playing 1931 which is incorrect, Pádraig Harrington is missing 2010 data, Miguel Ángel Jiménez is missing 2010 data, Martin Kaymer 3-2-0 overall not 3-2-1 (typo), Peter Mills is missing 1959 (in team but no matches)

also:

  • Maurice Bembridge/Brian Huggett: Bembridge is given 2 fourball wins, Huggett none but they won a match playing together in 1973
  • Arthur Lees is given 5 singles matches in 4 Ryder Cups which was not possible. Confusion perhaps with Dai Rees who is a singles match short
  • Alf Padgham is given 4 singles matches in 3 Ryder Cups which was not possible. Confusion with Alf Perry who is a singles match short

reference has some name errors: William Davis, Brian Hugget, Eddie Pollard

Believe Wikipedia is correct in all instances. Nigej (talk) 08:46, 25 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

New playing record reference

[edit]

I have changed the reference to this section which is an improvement on the other but note:

ref has F Molinari 0-1-0 in Fs (0-2-0 in Wikipedia) so doesn't add up - presumably a typo

ref has Migel Angel Martin appearing which we don't. Also they have Abe Mitchell in 1927 hence 4 appearances to our 3

Ref includes appearances in 1939 which we don't. It is clear that although Charles Whitcombe was selected, he withdrew before the outbreak of war and doesn't seem to have changed his mind. See ref given and Times for 26 August 1939.

Still believe we are correct in all instances

Jersey and Guernsey

[edit]

Jersey and Guernsey are not England and not even in the UK but crown dependencies. Why the are not listed in Country ? Dawi (talk) 16:37, 22 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Not quite sure what you're referring to. The "European country records" only starts from 1979 and no golfer from Jersey or Guernsey has played in that period (counting Tommy Horton as English). 3 of the golfers: Aubrey Boomer, Herbert Jolly and Ted Ray do have Jersey/Guernsey flags before their names. Cheers. Someone botched it and managed to create two Des Smyth entries. Nigej (talk) 18:08, 2 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
