Which players are legitimate England national team players?
[edit]I don't think players like Janice Barton and Carol Ann Wilson who participated in the 1971 Women's World Cup should be listed on this article be recognised as England internationals. As they are not recognised by the The Football Association as England international players. Or an alternative solution should an article be called The Lost Lionesses be created instead there are some sources that can be used. “A dream come true”: Lost Lioness Chris Lockwood on her… - The Face , Lost Lionesses' Proud Of New Generation Of Footballers | HuffPost UK Life (huffingtonpost.co.uk) , The Lost Lionesses: 'It's taken 50 years to feel valued' (telegraph.co.uk), The lost lionesses (bbc.co.uk), The Lost Lionesses: Carol Wilson on playing in the 1971 Women’s World Cup. What are other users' opinions on the subject? Dwanyewest (talk) 03:28, 2 October 2022 (UTC)
- I agree with you, this article should follow the official caps recognised by the Football Association. By the way, this article could probably use updating, as the FA recently published a full list of England internationals (legacy numbers to be announced next month), with full player statistics also coming in the near future. As for "The Lost Lionesses", does this term only refer to the 1971 Women's World Cup team? As it might be worth having an article covering all the unofficial squads/results of England (i.e. from the 1970 Women's World Cup as well as the 1969 and 1979 European Championships). This could be titled England women's national football team results (unofficial matches) or similar, and include the squad members and results/statistics for each of these tournaments. S.A. - @S.A. Julio: The Lost Lionesses is a reference to the unofficial England team that participated at the 1971 Women's World Cup.Dwanyewest (talk) 01:55, 9 October 2022 (UTC)
Legacy numbers
[edit]Now the FA has awarded backdated legacy numbers to every female cap, as with the men, is it of value to add a "legacy number" column to the table? I think it's useful for the purposes of ordering. See [1] Grunners (talk) 12:52, 18 November 2022 (UTC)
Missing English players and a question?
[edit]Shirley Garnham The forgotten Lioness ‘heartbroken’ by the FA’s failure to hand her an England cap (inews.co.uk) , Vicky Johnson, Carole Osborne, Sandra Graham (footballer) , Janet Turner (footballer), Theresa Irvine, Sarah Begg, Rayner Hadden, Christine Hutchinson (footballer) Wallsend Lioness finally gets her England cap - 40 years after playing for her country | ITV News Tyne Tees , Lesley Stirling, Julie Tomlinson, Sallie Jackson, Janet Milner and a few other England internationals could do with a massive push for a biography. Plus does anyone know how to access Wikipedia:The Wikipedia Library, British Newspaper Archive, EBSCO, Gale (Wikipedia:Gale), ProQuest, and Wikipedia:Newspapers.com, and Wikipedia:Newspaperarchive.com to extract information. Dwanyewest (talk) 18:50, 10 September 2023 (UTC)
- I have access to the Wikipedia Library, I don't quite remember how I got it, but I know it involved a sort-of application and I think they might not currently be taking more? Kingsif (talk) 23:59, 11 September 2023 (UTC)
