[edit]I would love it anyone out there could wikify even one entry on this rather long list. I don't want to give any intructions, since that's not really in the spirit of the project, but here are a couple things to think about before you edit.
- The schools are named the way they are for a reason. Particularly, I've used a minimum of abreviations, since there are so many that can stand for multiple schools. For instance, both South Carolina and Southern California are called USC. Also, if you change one Texas Christian to a TCU without changing them all, that makes the list inconsistent.
- If you wikify somebody's name, check to see that it's linking to the proper man, and not some other personality with the same name. If an article exists for a John Doe but not the one you're looking for, link it to John Doe (football) even if that link is dead. With any luck someone will be encouraged to write the article we need.
- I'm in the process of getting the coaches off this page and onto List of College Football Hall of Fame inductees (coaches). Before you move an entry there, make sure it isn't a person inducted as both a player and a coach (Walter Camp, for example).
I'll get off my soapbox now. Thanks for the help. --djrobgordon 00:13, 13 December 2005 (UTC)
If you do create/edit any page for any of the players on this list, please make sure that you add the Category:College Football Hall of Fame tag to the page. As I added the 2006 inductees I made sure to add this category to their pages. Thanks! Deejayk 03:17, 18 May 2006 (UTC)
Split list
[edit]Is there any reason these two lists are split? I bet even if the two lists were merged, they would not approach the size of some of the articles on Wikipedia? Any comments before I tag the pages with {{merge}}?--NMajdan•talk 18:46, 31 July 2006 (UTC)
bringing the player list up to date
[edit]Came across this two-page inductee list while doing a research project. Since it was badly in need of attention, I joined as a contributor and put in the work to update and correct it. In addition to adding the sixteen newly announced members of the 2016 class, I added the 54 other members from classes as far back as the 1980s who were missing from the list. I also made corrections for alphabetical order and name spelling, removed one player who is not in the HOF, and changed the rightmost column heading to make clear that the links in the column, although displaying simply as class years, take the user to the player's HOF bio.
I also resolved an inconsistency in the Wikipedia links offered in the University column. All of those in the A-K page, and some of those in the M-Z page, were links to university pages. The remainder of those in the M-Z page were to pages not about universities but about their football programs. Since some of the HOFers' schools had no football-program pages and since the majority of the links were university links, I standardized the links to the university pages. As time permits, I will add a fourth column to the list to include the football-program pages that exist, since (from what I gather from reading contributor comments on other pages) there was an intent at one time to complete football-program pages for all schools with football programs and to populate lists such as this one with links to those pages. For now the priority was simply to correct the errors and omissions and provide a correct and fully consistent list of inductees.64.53.209.23 (talk) 18:00, 9 January 2017 (UTC)64.53.209.23 byamrcn 23:08, 17 April 2016 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Byamrcn (talk • contribs) 64.53.209.23 (talk) 17:58, 9 January 2017 (UTC)
position listings
[edit]As of today I've completed the "Position" column for the entire list. When I began my work here there were position listings for some letters and not others, so I gradually filled in the missing ones.
There are some differences between my terminology and the listings that were added before me, but these are minor and shouldn't cause any misunderstandings. I'll resolve them at a future date. The important thing for now was simply to complete the column.

Doug Atkins
[edit]Can anyone advise as to why he is in the source with a leading hyphen, which causes him to not be displayed? If no response then I am going to remove the hypen.
