Reverting with no explanation or rationale
[edit]@Infinty 0:, you reverted my edit without stating any reason. I clearly articulated why I made the edit, so it would be fair that you do the same. I believe my edit is neither destructive or detrimental to the article's content - Wikipedia has a limited width so it would be better to remove less important columns. This has nothing to do with the automaker's age, other vehicle list articles simply doesn't state this. Andra Febrian (talk) 12:15, 20 October 2024 (UTC)
- I've already made my point very clear, every Chinese manufacture deserves the generation column to display This is out of respect for the principles of consistency, fairness, and futurity.
- Consistency - like any other Chinese brands vehicle list, the generation column is pretty much the consensus made by almost all the Chinese car article editors. This is not just the lists I created or involved in editing. Apart from the consensus of the editors (since you are the only one raising this issue), Wikipedia doesn't have any guideline on such list, so don't try to dictate anyone.
- Fairness - as I said, every Chinese manufacture deserves the generation column to their history and heritage. A simple example, the reason why Toyota Corolla is popular with most people around the world is because of its long-term reputation accumulated over countless generations of technological changes and a long period of time. Maybe it is not for you, but a vehicle comes from where and when really matters to many people.
- Futurity - There are not many iterations of Chery's models at present, but who knows if there will be any models among them that will be iterated in the future? Besides, the little "Generation" column doesn't take up much width honestly. Infinty 0 (talk) 12:42, 20 October 2024 (UTC)
- It does take quite a space for a column that essentially only say "first" and "second". See it for yourself, the "Also called (italics for export names)" column is very squashed. This is an example of what I'm pointing out:
- With generation column
- Chery Arrizo EX (2019–2020)
- Without
- Chery Arrizo EX (2019–2020)
- As you can see, readability takes a huge hit.
- For your "Consistency" point - well I don't see any long-standing agreement or consensus that Chinese cars list should have that. "Wikipedia doesn't have any guideline on such list, so don't try to dictate anyone." - You just pointed out that other Chinese brands vehicle list have this. You don't get to dictate either - this is a discussion.
- For your "Fairness" point - List of Toyota vehicles doesn't have that, so I don't know how you even bring "fairness" here. It instead creates unbalance where Japanese cars have a less detailed list. And I don't know if you noticed or if you're quick to press the undo button, but whenever there's a second generation car there's something that indicates it, from the code or description, like this:
|
2003 | 2022 |
|
City car |
- There are two images, there are two codes.
- For your "Futurity" point - You should see how old generation is handled in Chery Tiggo - this is better than how it's handled in lists of Japanese/European/Korean cars. The Tiggo 7 has two generations and it is denoted in two sections, current and discontinued, so readers are able to know how the first-generation Tiggo looks like. This is done to preserve the cars history and heritage. With your method, "futurity" is actually compromised because once a model hit the second generation, bam, its image of the first gen is gone. And in case you're wondering, Chery Tiggo has sufficient space to add "generation" column, because it doesn't have a "Chinese name" column.
