Guest stars in summaries and other matters
[edit]Guest stars do not belong in the summaries for a few simple reasons, first and foremost is that special celebrity appearences are generally considered trivial, and [is frowned upon on Wikipedia.] There are other ways to include special guests without listing them in an incorrect manner by folding the information into the short summary itself and putting the celebrity's name in brackets. Secondly, the short summary space is for exactly that: short summaries and nothing else. It is not a place to put guest stars, ratings information, production notes or anything else. If you want that information about a particular episode, then create an individual episode article and include it there. Short summaries are supposed to be a brief overview of the plot of an episode, which has nothing to do with which famous people happen to cameo in a particular episode. Also keep in mind that when you revert me, you are also reverting other information such us the removal of unnecessary references and the like. SchrutedIt08 (talk) 03:09, 24 September 2011 (UTC)
- Have no problem with the actors name in brackets after the characters name, which auto-limits itself to notable characters. But guest stars, music, or other trivial info has no place here in either a tacked on list or like here, its own section. Xeworlebi (talk) 16:49, 24 September 2011 (UTC)
- This is a very strong case of WP:OWNERSHIP, the user who has a "beef" with this is the article creator and i guess feels as though he decides what goes in it. The reason i submitted Tony Bennett and Carrie Underwood in the episode summary is because they were making a special suprise appearance. And since he rejected that, i added the guest stars section, which he also rejected. Rusted AutoParts (talk) 14:46 25 September 2011 (UTC)
- I assure you I have no sense of ownership on any of the articles I've created: this is a simple matter of irrelevant information. Yes, Carrie Underwood and Tonny Bennett made cameo appearences, but what does that have to do with the actual episode? You want to include them in the summary, then do it in a way that relates to the episode's plot. For instance, this is a sample of a summary from the season premiere of Fringe:

- "Olivia investigates a case where Lincoln Lee from the prime dimension witnessed a man with translucent skin attacking and killing his partner Robert (guest star Joe Flanigan) while tracking a sale of illegal weapons."
- You see how the name of the guest actor is folded into the summary in a way that actual tells the story, rather than just pointing out a trivial matter? As for the second issue, it is not only I that has rejected the guest stars section, as you can see above. It's rejection is even simpler: because this is a page that lists Blue Bloods episodes, not guest stars. It's completely off the point and not what the page was created for. It serves no purpose other than to illustrate useless trivia? Listing guest stars in this manner doesn't increase a reader's understanding of the episodes, or add any valuable information at all as far as I can see. I have no problem with the addition of guest stars names as long as it is done in the correct manner, like the example above. Alternatively, you could create an article for each individual season of Blue Bloods and list guest stars there, as can be seen here or here. SchrutedIt08 (talk) 00:07, 26 September 2011 (UTC)
- That would be difficult. Their appearances don't play too much of a role in the episode, it's a special suprise appearance. It's like having William Shatner appear in an episode of Star Trek: Voyager, a very brief suprise appearance. I'm not wanting to put all guest appearances in the summaries, but this should be an exception. Rusted AutoParts (talk) 15:14 26 September 2011 (UTC)
- But that's kind of my point. You said it yourself: their appearences don't play much of a role in the episode. It doesn't relate to the plot in any important way, so what's the point in adding them? It's just a piece of sensationalist trivia. This isn't like an episode of The Simpsons. That show is famous for its celebrity guest appearences, which makes it more notable than on Blue Bloods, which is not. SchrutedIt08 (talk) 00:34, 27 September 2011 (UTC)
