I've WP:BOLD removed this as it makes numerous unsourced claims about mostly living people. It seems like a WP:COATRACK of the article topic and a bit of WP:CRUFT for Spanish football anoraks (guilty as charged). Off the bat, Iker Casillas is not Basque by birthplace or heritage - he has a Basque first name because his grandfather was posted there. I suppose this puts Basque nationalists in a sticky situation if they want to claim a famous goalkeeper, but can only do so through a Castilian military policeman shipped there by Franco.
Many players from South America have Basque surnames, but only a few, mainly recent migrants to the southern cone, have it cited on their articles. If we're including everyone with a Basque surname as a Basque, that would include every person called García, which is unfeasible. Shaquille O'Neal is not classed as an Irish American on Wikipedia. I agree, but please keep an eye on it as there is a determined IP who keeps adding it (and similar lists to relevant articles). Crowsus (talk) 16:33, 9 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
