Russian area should include only the Asian portion
The current article lists Russia with its total land area (including both European and Asian portions). That skews its ranking when sorted by area. Determining the figure for Russian Asia is problematic since the Asian-European boundary is somewhat arbitrary and doesn't follow political boundaries, but I'm betting a very close approximation can be achieved by summing the figures for the Russian political subdivisions that are predominately Asian. This is on my to-do list, but you might want to tackle it in the meantime. Frappyjohn (talk) 20:12, 16 April 2017 (UTC)
- You're right of course, only the Asian parts of the transcontinental nations should be included. Russia, Kazakhstan and Turkey are the most obvious cases where this matters, then there's a bit of complexity around some of the Caucasus countries. Both this page and the List of European countries by area would benefit from clarifying what goes where. For reference (although good actual references are hard to find) that page currently lists the European parts of Russia, Kazakhstan and Turkey as 3,972,400, 180,000 (est.) and 23,507 respectively. - No Russia as a whole is in Asia so it should include all of Russia.--2601:3C5:8200:B79:BC56:20F:3F9E:6D2E (talk) 00:57, 11 June 2017 (UTC)
- Can you provide a source for that claim? Laanders (talk) 07:43, 12 June 2017 (UTC)
